Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[...okay, that shuts him up. Gets him to stop trying at shoving Logan off of him too. He talked to mom? What about it?]

[snikting]

[He continues, still in a low growling voice.]

We're tryin' to do somethin' important here, Shik. So are you. But I can't just let ya walk in there, family or not. So when I throw this punch, you better make it look real. Got it?

[endgames]

[It takes him a split second to get it, face shifting from surprise (you're not mad at me anymore?) to comprehension. He tucks his chin down in a nod, jaw set both in determination and to play the part.]

Yessir.

[snikting]

[Logan looks just as pissed as ever. He's still mad at Shikamaru. Infuriated.]

You get one week. Find somewhere else to work. After that, I ain't cuttin' you any more slack. Got it?

[endgames]

[So much for being left off the hook. There's only one guy in this town he thinks would hire him, but if anything that'd make Logan even more cranky.]

I'll look for something else, but I can't stop if I find nothing. You throw a real punch and I'll take it, if it comes to that, but I can't watch her die.

[snikting]

Neither can I. If it comes to a week, I ain't throwin' any punches at you. I'm throwin' you at your old man.

[That's a threat that he's sure is to mean a lot more. Because as much as Logan may hate Tony's guts for what happened to Makie, he sure as hell isn't going to let this strike get her killed.]

[endgames]

You hate him more than I do.

[A lot more.]

[snikting]

[He did. Which is what made this hard for him. It's why he was giving Shikamaru a week, instead of just demanding Shikamaru go see Tony now.

But hate had to come second to family.]

I don't hate him near as much as I care about Makie.

[endgames]

[He knows that takes a lot for him to say. In some weird, twisted Howlett logic, probably more than it takes for Shikamaru to keep coming here, day after day.

Relenting, he nods, the motion miniscule.]

All right. Understood.

[snikting]

Good. Now recoil.

[No more words need to be said. So Logan delivered the punch. It was faked, pulling it just enough that it would make contact, but wouldn't cause serious harm to the boy's face. It was up to Shikamaru to sell it, otherwise this extended conversation would get complicated real fast. His fellow strikers wouldn't like it if Logan, one of the rally leaders, was going easy on his own family. It was bad enough he had a scab as family to begin with.]

[endgames]

[Shikamaru's on it, light on his feet so he can throw himself back with his heels. He makes sure to jerk his head enough to make it look real - knock the hat right off him - and keen to the side as if nearly losing his balance. He adjusts right before he'd fall, glaring with one eye at Logan for good measure while wiping his mouth.

Man, even if he's holding back that still stings a little. What's he packing in those fists? Metal?

Ah, no time to dawdle though. The other picketers, catching wind of a fight, will be all too happy to fight for real. He reaches for his hat, and makes to run.]

[snikting]

Get outta here, ya scab! See if the Cathies will bother to clean ya up!

[He turns to go. One of his fellow strikers tries to take him by the shoulder to 'calm him down, but Logan goes with the moment, pulls away, and keeps marching away.

Damn. He was going to have to do this six more times.]
