Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

"She's catching on." Out of earshot, Tony didn't mind being a little complimentary. He stayed hard on her when she was around, though. Couldn't let her know she was doing a good job, and all. "Another week, and she'll have it down."

[handing]

"Which means in another week, she'll figure out that you actually do like her?" No, Pepper hadn't been speaking to the woman in question herself. Instead she simply assumed as much based on her own experience, as she'd had a similar moment herself when things simply just clicked with him.

[alloys]

"I think that's her reward if she can decipher what I say." He grinned into another bite of risotto.

[handing]

"Didn't I demand a raise when I got to that point?" Pepper remembered feeling she had certainly earned one by then.

[alloys]

"And I gave it to you. I was unusually keen on trying to please you. For some reason."

It didn't take him long to figure out what that reason was.

[handing]

"Was?"

[alloys]

"Amend that: is." He shoved another forkful in his mouth.

[handing]

"Wise decision." Pepper grinned around her own bite. "Both times. I was very happy with my raise."

[alloys]

"And all along I thought you were just so charmed by my company it didn't even matter to you."

[handing]

Pepper tapped her fork against her lips, looking thoughtful as she considered it for a moment. "I don't think your charms had quite worked on me yet. Which is to be expected, since I'd only just figured out how to tell when you were complimenting me."

"What can I say? I like a challenge." And to be challenging, but there was definitely a thrill in trying to win Pepper.
