Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[Vash walks in with a grin, starting to dry his face.] Yup! Everyone and anyone! Sorry, Makie, but you're a heart breaker of even men you haven't met yet!

I'll be sure they mark that on my gravestone, then. Beer or soda?

[He hated it when she's morbid, even if it's a joke.] Beer, please. I think you owe me one anyway after getting me all wet!

[Luckily she rarely is. Most often with Vash, actually.] Beer it is. Gimme a sec. Just drape the towel in the bathroom when you're done. [You know where it is. 8| Into the kitchen she goes.]

Alright. [And know it he does. Almost too well. He heads into the bathroom and hangs up the towel. Checking out that his hair isn't too big of a mess before he heads into the kitchen to meet up with Makie.] So, besides drenching poor, defenseless Avon salesmen what have you been up to?

Oh, you know. Sitting around. Trying to find new hobbies. [There's a certain amount of snark there, because she can't do much these days.] Living vicariously through my son and his friends. The usual.

You should get out more and live vicariously through yourself! If you're just lacking company I've recently found I have a lot more times on my hands.

[therewerefifty]

I can't, Vash. [This boundless optimism of his...] Forget I'm infectious? I go to a movie and cough once, I could infect six people. Not that movies are really in my budget anyway.

[goldenglasses]

We could find a seat in the back and if you wore a mask it would probably be alright. Probably.

[Maybe.

He sighs, running his fingers through his long hair quickly. He hated not being able to do anything to help like this.]

Do you think... maybe if you saw better doctors something could be done? I could talk to my brother. I'm sure I could get a loan at the brotherly discount front him. [If he begged. Not to mention work for Capsule Corp for the rest of his life for free, but for Makie it was worth it.

Of course this is an offer he's probably made before, but what else could he do?]

[She re-emerges from the kitchen, tossing him an unopened bottle of beer.]

I appreciate it, but I already have a good doctor. He's starting me on a new treatment this week-- it's experimental, but it might improve things.

[The problem isn't the doctor. It's the cost. Oh, and the small fact that the chance of a proper cure is near impossible. That too.]

[goldenglasses]

[Vash catches the beer without even really needing to look at it. His eyes too attached to picking up the paleness of Makie's face.] Yeah? Hopefully it will work better than he expects. [Forever the optimistic, of course, since Makie's diagnosis and the strike it's been harder and harder to keep up.

He sits down on the couch and opens up the beer.] Still, you can't hide in the house all the time, Makie. That's too boring. Otherwise I may be forced to plan a house party here without telling you about it.

[It's a joke, but now he suddenly wonders if he could pull it off. Hmm. With Fluttershy's help- he knows enough of Makie's friends to make it feel like a party. Maybe he'll have to see when they're free. Hm, if she doesn't want a loan for doctor bills maybe he can borrow some money from his brother to buy some food and drinks. And then-]

Hey now, don't accuse me of always hiding. [She lets the house party go without comment, because even Vash is wise enough to know how terrible an idea that is. (She...thinks. SHE CAN'T READ THOSE BRACKETS.)] I still do my shopping regularly, and I go for drives. Well...when the car is working, anyway. God forbid the day ever comes when I hide.

[If she were less tired all the time, well...]

Shopping is so boring though! [At least in his mind it is.] Oh! I know! What about a picnic some day or something like that? [As the idea of shopping and all those isles of food has gotten him hungry now.]

[therewerefifty]

Shopping is only boring to those who've never gone bowling for pumpkin soup.

[Deadpan.

Then she smiles.]

A picnic sounds nice.

[goldenglasses]

Bowling for pumpkin soup? [He can't help but snicker at the image of Makie standing in a store isle tossing cans of soup. It's hard to picture, but what he can it hilarious.]

I'll bring some cans of it with me to the picnic so you can teach me the rules. [Because now that you have agreed it sounds nice it is SO happening.]

[She flashes a grin at him.] When would you like to have this picnic?

Hm, how about this weekend? That way Shikki can come too. [Of course he means Shikamaru, but it's more fun to call him Shikki.]

[therewerefifty]

Make it next weekend. The dance is on this weekend-- some people might need a chance to recover. [Heh. This weekend is all Shikamaru and Sakura's. She's not invading it.]

[goldenglasses]

Oh? Is it? I didn't realize that the dance was this weekend! [He didn't keep up much with what went on in the high school.] Next weekend it is then!

[therewerefifty]

Yes. We can pick which day when we know what the weather's going to be like. [It's a good idea. Vash could be an idiot sometimes, but this? This is a nice compromise.]

Sounds good to me. I'm free most everyday next week I think. You know, unless the strike suddenly ends.

[therewerefifty]

I'll see if Shikamaru wants to come. Look at that. You are capable of good ideas.

By all means! Invite as many people you want! Does Shikki have a sweet heart these days? She should come too!

And you should know that I'm full of great ideas all the time!

You could say he has a sweetheart, yes. [This eyebrow. It says are you sure about that last part?] I'll extend the invitation.

[Though she won't be surprised if Sakura doesn't come. It's healthier for her, that way.]
