Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

[ She stops mid-step, her foot resting on the ball for a moment. Her tension lessons, reminding her that his word is the truth. The healthier she looked, the more likely she was to be used for the vaccination and by the end of it, her body was nothing but an empty shell — she cannot tell whose treatment is worse now. ]

I don't think that matters to them. [ Her arms fall to her side as she fully turns to him. ] They put us in here without an actual basis... which means that they are going to 'treat' us as many times as they would like.

They put us here because we know this isn't real. [His voice is simple, even, calm.] Because we don't have false memories of childhoods here, families, and the rest of the fiction they've created.

The more you try and acknowledge it, though, the more aggressive they become.

[He's staying where he is, keeping a sort of distance. But closer? The burns on the side of his face -- one over each temple -- might be seen. The marks the restraints have left from his spasms, though, are hidden under bandages concealed by his patient's outfit.]

[ She takes a deep breath, furling her fingers into her palms as if to calm herself down. Everything feels disjointed like a hazy summer dream thought up in childhood, but the lingering pinpricks of nightmare claws itself into the memory, leaving it to slowly corrupt. How long has it been since she's been in here? ]

We don't even know what's going on outside of this... [ She motions to the walls round them. ] If the Shift will even end any time soon.

We can play along as much as they would like, but we're still trapped. Complying will only make the inevitable happen regardless, unless we find a way out or some sort of... information that could help us.

If you want information, you'll want to act calm. Otherwise, you get treatments. Those... Well. Let's just say they aren't kind to the short-term memory.

[A pause, he shrugs.]

I can't promise I'll remember this conversation tomorrow.

[ She gives him a long stare, her eyebrows furrowed with concern. It took some time for Marita to fully recover physically, but mentally it weighs heavy on every decision she makes, in all of her dreams where the most terrifying thing is seeing darkness swarming her vision. Her throat beings to tighten.

She very knows she needs to be calm, but she can't. ]

What kind of treatments do they perform?

They administer a series of electric pulses at the temples while one is strapped down with a series of leather restraints.

[Nothing he'd ever heard of before, but that hardly mattered. There were here to be contained, to be forced into silence. What did it matter if the techniques were medically sound or not?]

[ The procedure may not be the same as the black oil, in fact... she thinks it's much lighter, though still dire. Marita does not feel any less unsettled though. At least on the outside Luceti looks as if it has freedom. ]

But you still remember the reality, don't you? About Luceti, I mean... [ She motions between them. ] About our memories.

I remember what I think is reality. After three rounds with those treatments, I don't really know what's real and what isn't at this point.

[But he isn't dismissive of the idea. He still has vivid memories of Luceti. That's long-term. That memory is solid. More solid, at least.]

[ She knows her memories are real; she remembers home and here and there isn't a Shift to keep her muddled within the realms of derealization. Her thoughts become an action as she touches the crook of her arm, feeling the scars from the two years of torture she spent. ]

There's a theory... that the entirety of this is a simulation of some sort. [ Her eyebrows are furrowed as she looks at him. ] If that is true, then what really constitutes as real?

Then there's no reason to be pacing and worrying, is there? If this is just a simulation, there's nothing to fear.

[Except his voice is cold. Bordering on mocking her. Because she is afraid. So is he. If it's real enough to fear, it's real enough to him.]

[ He almost reminds her of Krycek, who left her in the panic of Fort Marlene with no way out. Fear and anger rises up in her throat, but... despite his tone, he's right. If it all is a simulation, nothing here can hurt her.

Nothing here can help her, either. ]

That's easier said than done.
