Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! [ These last few days have been nothing but confusing and she'd like someone to talk to. But Logan's still at the farmlands, and Makie has always been good to her. So on the morning of the 8th, she decides to come knocking on her sister-in-law's door. ]

[Makie opens the door looking...uh. Well, haggard, really. But it seems more a lack of sleep and bed hair than anything else, at least.]

Ororo...? [Not that the other woman isn't welcome, but... she hopes this isn't a follow-up of Logan's visit.] Come in.

[ Logan told her enough. And while Ororo was concerned about Makie and her son, she wasn't here for those reasons. After all, she was allowed to worry about her sister in law's health too. ]

Makie, good morning. Did I come at a bad time...?

No. No, not at all. [In this case at least, she really didn't get much sleep last night. As far as health goes, she's doing pretty well, considering.] I'm sort of in recovery from yesterday, aha... it was a bit chaotic.

[She opens the door wide with a rueful smile, patting her hair down into something more smooth.] There's tea and cocoa in the kitchen, if you'd like one.

[ Ororo steps inside, shaking her head no, thank you at Makie's offer. ] That's quite alright, Makie. Thank you. But - chaotic? [ She raises an eyebrow curiously. ] Did something happen?

Mm. I sort of crashed the car. [She's obviously unhurt, and Makie smiles wryly as she closes the door behind them.] Ironically, I'd just got it out of the shop that morning. Now it's off the road for another week at least.

[ Crashed the car-- Ororo frowns, obviously concerned. She also sees that she doesn't seem to be hurt, but... ]

Goodness. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope no one was hurt? [ Unspoken goes the question if she'd been hurt, too. ]

No. It was... pretty gentle as far as accidents go. [She's not quite sure what caused it, now. It all seems rather vague...] I did a little damage to to a fire hydrant. The police weren't too happy about it.

But. No casualties except my car. [She sits on the couch.] Is everything all right at home?

[She likes seeing Ororo. She's just not used to seeing her without a Logan in tow.]

[ She winces. Car repairs were still an extra expense. She smiles at Makie sympathetically. ]

That must be difficult. Will you be alright? If there's anything you need, well. I know Logan and I would be happy to help in any way we can. [ Somehow, anyway. But at Makie's question, Ororo just sighs and joins her on the couch. ]

Everything's as fine as can be I suppose. Wanda and Korra had a rough weekend. But they'll be alright.

I appreciate it. [Hey, sometimes just an offer of support is helpful, but Makie sure as heck isn't about to ask them for help with the strike going on. At the news, she frowns slightly.] Rough? What happened?

[ Ororo smiles faintly, thinking back on her two girls. ]

That homecoming dance down at the high school was this past weekend. Let's just say that they both encountered a bit of drama. [ A sigh. ] And that it's a good thing Logan's been so busy lately, or those boys they'd been seeing may not have lived to see the next day.

Oh, no. [Shikamaru hadn't brought it up. But then again, she wouldn't blame him for that.] Wanda was so looking forward to the dance, too. Do I have to slap anyone?

[Because she will, you know.]

I know. [ Ororo sighs again, kind of heavily. It had been so hard seeing her so hurt. ]

But no, that's alright. I don't think it will help matters any, as good as it might feel. [ She gives Makie a wry smile. ] I'm sure Wanda and Korra would appreciate the sentiment, though.

Mm, probably. [Chances are Wanda will tell her in person. Makie will let the subject slide for now.] How are things otherwise?

[ Ororo pauses at the question thoughtfully. ]

Well, we're getting by, as always. It's not easy, of course. I think the girls know more about the state of our finances than they like to let on... [ She trails off, uncertainly. Truthfully, there was more to it than that. There were a lot of questions she suddenly had. She wasn't sure how to go about them. ]

[Makie glances up after a moment, when Ororo doesn't continue. And thinks of the doubts she had yesterday.]

Are you sure you don't want that drink? We could sit and talk for a while.

[ Ororo smiles faintly. Makie was many things, and among them a good hostess, apparently. ]

Perhaps just a glass of water?

I think we can arrange that. [She says it lightly, vanishing into the kitchen to pour a glass. She's back in a few moments, setting it down on the table in front of Ororo.] Logan came by the other day, too. I seem to be seeing a lot of the family this week. Not that that's a bad thing.

He mentioned he'd dropped by, yes. [ She took the glass, nodding her thanks, but held onto it for the moment without taking a sip. ] He didn't cause you any trouble about Shikamaru, did he? It's important to stick together, especially with how things are around the village these days.

He didn't, actually. [Her smile is both fond and relieved.] He was upset about it, there's no denying that. But he also understood there wasn't much choice. We talked about options instead. It's just... sad that there are so few.

[Nobody's hiring.]

[ Ororo smiles, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes. ] If there were more, we would have taken one or two by now. [ These last few months haven't exactly been easy. Ororo frowns, then. ] But even if we did have options, Makie, they would hardly be better than what we had at the factory. We deserve more.

I know. I hear they're not even bothering to talk things out with the workers. They expect the picket line to just fold and come skulking back. [She frowns. Her relief only goes as far as her family not getting pulled apart any further. The problem is still at hand.] I don't know what to do.

Neither do we. [ Ororo shakes her head helplessly, sighing. ] It's not a problem with a foreseeable end, I think. ... I can't help but wonder why we haven't left - surely things are not this bad elsewhere? [ And yet they've stayed here for years and years... It was curious. Something that she hadn't really thought about until recently. ]

[She's quiet for a moment, because Makie can honestly say that option never occurred to her before now. It's tempting. In a way.]

...you could look into moving. Maybe take a trip out to a neighbouring town, check it out.

[She can't. She knows she's lucky enough to have found a doctor that tries to cater to her lack of cash.]

[ Ororo's quiet for a spell, thinking... ]

Yes. I think that might be an idea worth looking into...

[ ... She glances up at Makie, curiously. ]

What's the nearest town, again?

[ Since, you know, she can't seem to recall it at the moment. ]
