Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

[Her lips are thin, thinking always thinking.]

Why would they take her?

Because she wanted to get me out.

[What other reason is there? Because she'd realized something was wrong. Because she'd finally started to ask questions. Because she was starting to see it, too.

He can't stop. He can't give up. And maybe he can get a bit of help.]

Don't you think it's strange, Doctor? All these new patients. Is there an epidemic of madness, do you think? Or are the people putting them here trying to hide something?

[Spoken like a true paranoid.]

[It would be just ramblings of a paranoid man if not for the fact that she's been having the very same thoughts every time they get a new patient in.

Her own head is making her doubt things and on top of everything else she's in the middle of it right here. Running herself ragged to try and stop at least some of the madness.]

Everything is falling apart.

[She says it more to herself then to Robert. But it's now out there. For some reason the sanest person here is the madman. She taps her fingers on the desk. Clearly thinking things over.]

There are far too many of them. If it was heat stroke then the hospital should be dealing with them. And they should not be treated by long term faculties. As well as experimental procedures done on patients who do not need them.....

No. Nothing is right here.

[She's agreeing with a man who thinks he has met another version of himself. But it's either that or the people smiling and telling her to just get on with her work, like there is nothing wrong.]

Their treatments... affect short-term memory. Some cognitive processing as well. Nothing drastic, but it... impairs it.

[Because she needs to know. She needs to hear it from someone who has been under the electrodes and current three times in a week. Someone whose limbs are raw from spasms into the restraints. Someone whose mind has trouble recalling conversations had a day ago.]

The more the short-term memory goes--

["--the more long-term memory is relied upon."

Robert glances slightly to his left, as if acknowledging something said there.]

Exactly.

It makes what you consider to be a delusion worse--

["--when it is, in fact, a recalled memory."]

Just so.

[He's talking to his twin, himself. Does it matter? Tenenbaum knows this isn't right. She rubs her forehead and goes back to the first topic.]

The police can't hold her for simply trying to get release papers.

[And she has a feeling that the girls father wouldn't stand for that. More trouble of course.]

Will they come back here? The girl and her father?

I hope not.

[Robert brings his hand up to rub at his temple, to try and clear his mind, but he feels the burned skin and withdraws his hand, shuddering.

He so much as closes his eyes, and he thinks of being back on that table... and he left Elizabeth to a worse fate before.

...This was justice. Penance, Comstock would call it. Divine retribution.]

If they come, they will be stopped.

[She remembers the earnest girl who wanted to so very much for her uncle to be alright. Maybe she wouldn't. But at the same time it was hard to believe that.]

Perhaps.

[She has a feeling things are going to get worse. Much worse. She stands up.]

You are still drawing attention to yourself. You must stop this. Otherwise you really will go mad.

[Robert turns his head to look at her, his teal eyes narrowed slightly.]

It's a little late for that.

Minor auditory hallucinations caused by... circumstances I understood... have become visual and auditory hallucinations. They are becoming harder and harder to distinguish from what is tangible.

Before long, I'm afraid it will spread to sense of touch.

[He was no psychiatrist, but he could imagine his own progress, his own slide into utter madness.]

[For the moment she at least thinks she's supposed to be one, and that's clear to her as well. She shakes her head.]

No. This is not right.

[She's not even looking at him now, talking more to herself. Before straitening herself and glancing over.]

Give me a day. I will see what I can do. Until then, remain quiet and do not make a fuss.

[He looks at her, studies her intently, and then... bow his head slightly:]

Thank you.
