Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

Medical procedure?

[Images of old B movies with test subjects laid out on lab tables while men cackle over them with syringes full of weird multi-colored liquids come to mind and he looks uncertain.]

Like what? Have they taken you for one before?

Three, now.

[His gaze turns on the other. He's gotten used to warning the ones they're starting to bring in.]

They strap you down to a rolling bed and put a rubber guard in your mouth. Then, they put a conductive to your temples before they attach metal devices. After that, they send an electric current through you for... I don't even know how long or how many times per procedure.
musubi: (you still back there?)

[At least he tells it like it is...

This doesn't sit well with Isamu at all, and he begins to look uncomfortable as he sends a few wary glances in the direction of a couple staff members. He hadn't been causing any real harm, right? Just making a nuisance of himself.]

But they haven't fried your brain yet, right? You sound okay, so at least there's that.

[His attempts at humor fall flat at a time like this, but it rarely keeps him from trying anyway.]

I suffered from minor auditory hallucinations when they began.

I now have vivid visual hallucinations and expect them to turn tactile soon. It is also becoming increasingly difficult to tell fiction from reality, and my short-term memory is unreliable at best.

[So, in short: Robert's not so sure they haven't destroyed his brain. Once he's out, once he tries to work again, then he'll know the full extent of the damage.]
musubi: (call me)

To tell fiction from reality...

[Isamu gives the other man a long, curious look.]

Don't tell me you're not actually unaffected by this thing? I figured anyone who was tossed in here was tossed in because the shift wasn't working on them for whatever reason.

I see and hear someone I know is not here. She is not in Luceti.

But every day that passes, she seems more real while I am here.

She is the fiction, being alone is the reality: And every day it gets harder to remember that.
musubi: (say it again)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-11 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you know she isn't real? Maybe she just wasn't brought to Luceti.

[He lowers his voice a little, remembering what the man had said moments earlier.]

None of this is actually real. Luceti doesn't even normally look like this. Sometimes the Malnosso will mess with our memories and make us think we're people we aren't. You aren't mad for remembering the way things should be.

She isn't really here. She's real, of course. I've spent the last twenty years of my life with her.

[So as the short-term memory degraded, shattered and scattered by the electricity they pretended to believe was healing... he felt the long-term that much more strongly, began to sink into memories because the present was becoming unbearable.]

But she isn't here.
musubi: ((unsure))

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Did you think she was here before or something?

[Which part is made up? He doesn't know enough about this man to be able to say.]
ablankpage: (Default)

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-08-12 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
No. I've always known she wasn't here.

[It's a strange situation.]

But after years of having someone who finished my sentences, the mental effect lingered, even after I arrived.

Now? It has gone well beyond that. As I said -- it was a minor auditory hallucination. Now it is far more severe, visual as well, and likely to become tactile soon.
musubi: (isn't that right?)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-12 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[A strange situation that Isamu is failing to comprehend at this point. Maybe this guy actually was mad when he was brought in. It would explain why he'd been there for a while already.]

...And that's because they were messing with you?
ablankpage: (Scientist)

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-08-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Mmhm.

Their "treatments" have caused my short-term memory to deteriorate. I probably won't remember this conversation tomorrow. And since the hallucinations are based in long-term memories, they take hold even more.
musubi: (once again)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-12 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Is there anywhere you can write things down to remember them that won't get taken from you? Like inside your clothes or something?

[Though those would be changed out too, probably.]

I have a feeling they don't want us to remember. That it's part of the idea. So, something like that? Might just be cause for more treatments.

[He's become a little paranoid about it, really.]
musubi: (damn it all)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-12 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I guess you have a point...

[If Isamu was a little more considerate, he might volunteer to visit the man each day to remind him of things he's forgotten, but he'll soon be distracted by his own problems anyway.]
ablankpage: (Working)

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-08-13 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
They have a very good way here. Very effective. Cutting off any avenue of hope.

[Because hope has to die before any sort of "treatment" can take hold.

Comstock had proven that with a million Elizabeths.]
musubi: (everything settled)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-13 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Isamu remembers a time, and it seems so long ago now, when his situation felt so beyond hope that he'd given up on outside help at all. It was that which had led him into the twisted passages of Amala in the first place, led him down the road to madness and betrayal. By the time Naoki had actually reached him...

This isn't like that situation. The fact that there are other people to talk to is proof enough of that. Still, the thought comes to mind all the same, and perhaps the feeling he had then is similar to the one this man has now.]

There's no avenue to cut off.

[He gives the side of his head a tap with one finger.]

It's already all here. Hope, that is.
ablankpage: (Distracted)

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-08-13 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
False memories. Those who don't are here. Methods to erode your thoughts.

[His eyes focused on the other man, eyes narrowed slightly.]

What do you think they're attacking? Nothing physical.
musubi: (i'm going to pretend you're kidding)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-13 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they're not attacking anything physical. That wouldn't be any challenge.

I'm trying to be positive here. Some powerful whatsits have gotten us thrown in here, but this has got to be an easier prison to break out of than the larger one we're usually in.
