Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

[There has been an incessant pounding behind Booker's eyes ever since Elizabeth had been taken. The things she had told him two nights previous left him in a cold panic, what Robert had told him that very afternoon was enough to leave him in a paranoid silence.

His nose had started bleeding, with memories he didn't own assaulting his mind. He turned to drink, something that had offered a constant solace from everything that haunted him.

When Elizabeth comes to his room he gives her all his attention, wants nothing more than to hold her and just pretend everything is normal because their life before...before this had been perfect. It wasn't easy and it wasn't good but it was perfect.

He wants it back more than ever now when she speaks and tells him she's afraid. He'd topple buildings to save her from that fear...

something tells him he has.]

Do you want to leave? [His voice is hoarse, foreign from disuse and he has to clear his throat to continue.] We could go.

[Paris, Elizabeth, remember? ]

Yes. [The answer comes out easily, almost as though she'd been waiting for him to ask that very question. Elizabeth crosses into the room, she wants to be held again and comforted. Even if her brain is telling her she's been held by her father dozens of times, she still wants it like she's never wanted anything else.]

Yes, I want to go, it's only going to get worse. I want to run away so badly. [Eyes welling up with scared tears, Elizabeth looks back up at Booker. She's trying to hold them in, steady her hands.] But we can't. Uncle Robert-- [Is he really her uncle? She doesn't know, but that isn't something she can wonder about right now.] --Uncle Robert knows what's going on. If people are being arrested because they're questioning things like what he told me... If we leave him there, something terrible is going to happen to him. And if the whole town is going insane, I can't leave Gai--

[...well. This wasn't the place she wanted to bring that up.]

I can't leave everyone here, things are just going to escalate until everyone is murdering each other in the streets. Uncle Robert knows something, he can tell us what's going on. ...why your nose keeps bleeding...

[And why hers had bled on and off yesterday as she ran in a paranoid panic through the streets.]

[The sight of tears on his daughter riles something guilt-ridden in Booker and he can't help but stand - ignore how the room sways - and just hold her like he wishes he had been able to before.

God, he made so many mistakes. Selling Elizabeth was the worst of them, if he had jus --

wait. That...that wasn't right. He'd had his daughter since her mother died. Why would he just...think that?]

Okay. [He breaths it, tries to put those thoughts out of his mind because he can't think that now. She needs him more.]

Okay. So what do you want to do?

[He knows this is going to end badly. That someone is going to get hurt but if someone does get hurt he's going to make sure it isn't Elizabeth. He'd die for this girl bef --

Suddenly a sharp pain lances through his skull accompanied by a loud buzz and Booker grunts, sways with the effort not to stumble and either sit or fall. Something wet trickles over his mouth and Booker knows because this is how it's been for every nosebleed.]

Shit.

[He steps back from Elizabeth and pinches his nose, tries to find something to blot at the bleeding with.]

Dad! [Elizabeth grasps her father's shoulders tightly, but she knows that she isn't going to be able to keep him upright if he does fall. He's solid muscle, she can't push him up. Instead, she guides him back to a chair, helps him sit.]

No no no-- [She looks around, finally settles on tearing the hem of her dress out and pressing the scrap over Booker's chin and collecting the blood over his lips and to his nose.]

We have to go to the asylum, we need Uncle Robert! He knows what's going on, he knew something was wrong from the start!

[The blood trickles steadily into the fabric Elizabeth holds to his nose and Booker takes it in his hand with gratitude, disappointed that she decided to do a fast fix with her own dress but - there were more pressing matters at hand.]

We can't, Elizabeth! [It was really hard to sound convincing when you were pinching your nose.]

You - it's not that easy! We'll be put in jail or maybe get stuck in the asylum ourselves like that!

[Booker was obviously not thinking creatively. ]

If I'd thought it might be easy, I wouldn't be so scared. I wouldn't need your help as much as I do.

We have to go, dad. This is bigger than jail or the asylum. Uncle Robert knew something was wrong, and I started to put it together, and the police... they did something to me, I know it.

[She swallows that down. Booker's nose is bleeding, she knows she's been forced to forget something. Something huge, something that could rip all of this apart. But she's trying to be brave, despite everything she's facing down. But part of her knows she can do it, knows she's done it before.]

I know you keep a pistol in the trunk. And a shotgun under the bed. The world is falling down around us, and we have nothing to lose but each other. If we're going to run, I want to know what we're running from. I want to know what was done to us.
