Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.


Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! Ah, really? [It shouldn't come as any surprise, given the recent tax hike. If not for the change in her own life, she'd probably much worse off than she already was.]

I guess I was just thinking about things. [...] You haven't noticed anything... weird lately, have you?

[At that, he blinks.]

Weird?

[He echoes the word, encouraging her to elaborate. He can't deny the possibility that he does find something strange off the bat, considering what has been happening . . . ]

Well. You know. Like... [She turns, looking off to a corner where a few policemen are standing guard watching them for seemingly no reason whatsoever.] ...weird.

[welnares]

[Whereas Kari turns to look, Oscar merely tips his head more, eyes wide and innocent.]

If you mean the police, that's probably because of the increase in crime rate from the tax hike.

[He can't claim that that is actually the case, but he figures with what has happened to him the possibility of more crimes being committed is on the table.]

[magicalesbian]

Has there been a noticeable increase in crime, though? I mean, those guys at the top will say anything to get what they want.

[welnares]

What do you think? As for me, there's only crime I can name off the top of my head . . . but it isn't much.

[magicalesbian]

...did something happen? [She knows she hasn't been around too much, so she's probably missed a lot.]

[welnares]

Not much. [So not really. It's a trivial thing, his tone suggests.] I got mugged.

[magicalesbian]

You what!? Why the hell didn't you say anything about it before?

[welnares]

Should I have? [He thinks.] Well, she only took my wallet. The holey one. It wasn't much of a loss, was it? I can just earn back what I lost. That may take a while, though . . .

[magicalesbian]

Yes, you should have! [HUFF.] Geeze, with an attitude like that, no wonder you got mugged!

Now come on, tell me about her. If I know her, maybe I can go snatch it back for you before she does who-knows-what with the money.

[welnares]

[Leaning back (Kari is a little scary when she's like this), Oscar rubs the back of his head.]

It was a while ago, so she must have used it all up by now. Anyway, I never saw her face . . . She had something sharp at my back and a knife to my neck. All I know is that she has a rough way of talking. She called me "buster" . . .

[Who says that?]

[magicalesbian]

[Oh god she knows exactly who says that. And the color kind of drains from her face for a few seconds.]

[Revy. Aka Norma's crazy mother who no one without a deathwish would ever dream of messing with.]

...h-huh. Doesn't ring a bell. Unfortunately.

[welnares]

[ . . . Okay, that was incredibly unconvincing, but Oscar won't pursue his suspicion. It's not a big deal. What is, however, is how the description actually physically affected Kari, and Oscar's brows knit together in concern.]

That's fine, but – are you okay? You went pale for a moment.

[magicalesbian]

Wha-- of course! You're probably just imagining things! [Aaand she's just going to turn on her heel and grab him by the arm.]

Say, I know! How about I treat you to dinner instead? I mean. It's not enough to make up for the wallet. But it'll save you having to shell out for another meal! How about it?

[welnares]

[Oh – Oscar scowls slightly.]

I'd rather make sure that Walter gets food . . . But is that okay? If it's too much, you don't have to invite me.

[magicalesbian]

Of course it's okay! Why would I go by myself, anyway?

[Normally it wouldn't be okay at all, but given her new circumstances, she hardly needs to worry about saving her money anymore.]

Come on! We can bring Walter back something, too!

[/casually dragging him away now]

[welnares]

[Well, when she suggests that, he can't very well say "no" anymore, can he? Still, he isn't about to be all over a free meal.]

Let me pay a portion, at least . . .

[When he, uh, gets paid again.]

...how about an I.O.U? You can just treat me next time!

[She grins and laughs.] I'll make you take me out for steak or something.
