Post-Event Blues

Who: Everybody, everybody!
What: The battle is won. Now what?
When: The eleventh, twelfth, and onward
Where: Luceti
Summary: With Zompano dead and the cultists routed, Luceti is restored. Kind of.
Rating: F for Feels

On the eleventh, things were slowly breaking down. Memories of their true lives were breaking through. The village, scarred by the battle with the cultists, began to rebuild itself. Community buildings that had vanished were returned to their rightful places. The battle dome was uncovered from the earth that had covered it. Hundreds and hundreds of fake homes slowly faded away. Paved roads gave way to trees and grass. It was an incredible sight for anyone who was willing to sit aroun and watch it happen.

Things wouldn't be easy for the villagers, though. The memories perpetuated by the last ten days would not be easily removed. The feelings and hatreds it had created would take time to conquer and remove. Perhaps, in a way, that was Zompano's nastiest trick of all. The village itself may heal from his invasion, but it would take far more than a few Shifts to fix the people left behind.

Towards the end of the day, their wings returned. Much like some of the buildings, they seemed to just reappear, as if they had never been gone. Their barcodes became visible again as a singular reminder that they were, ultimately, just the property of another entity who as a whole were not much better than Count Zompano.

By the twelfth, the village looked as though nothing had ever happened. Sure, the contents of buildings might have been messed up or destroyed during the battles, but things were otherwise as they were supposed to be. The night before, people would have had to find their old beds to go sleep in, as they no longer possessed the old ones granted to them in another life.

The village was peaceful.

Modly Note: That wraps up the event. As noted in the prose above, you have the option to play up the after effects of the event more than in other ones. While it won't have the same impact universally, the Shift was constructed in such a way that people may have difficulty shaking off the emotions they developed during the event. In effect, it was a cruel send off to Luceti so they would have to deal with the loathing and hatred that came with the less desirable parts of it. Of course, that means the feelings of familial bonds will also persist for awhile as well. It's up to you, as players, to decide how much or little to play with it!

[Luke had been looking for her yesterday, though he isn't surprised when he can't find her. That girl, Eleanor - he'd never met her before this whole thing... and god, the feelings he felt during it were familiar. It's why he had to find her, if not to at least get to know her, then to apologize. He'd never want anyone else to feel something like that and have it not be real, after all. And, well... he would, very much, like to get to know her.

He does his best, and finally, he does find her. It took a while, but he likes to consider himself a seeking champ. So he feels a burst of happiness and pride, but he pushes it down before going to her. This is serious, after all.]

... Eleanor?

12th - Well this might be a mess.

[Eleanor was on the edge of town, sitting beneath the same tree she had spent so much time under when she'd first arrived in Luceti. From here she could see a lot of the buildings, watching the people come and go without having to be a part of any of it. Which was...reassuring, right then. She couldn't let herself connect right now, if she could avoid it.]

[But she's so distracted by the big picture she doesn't notice Luke until he's right there, and her dark eyes go wide for a second as she peers up at him. For a second it's all memories of awkward dancing and laughing and maybe being sort of bossy to him...memories that aren't real in the least, memories someone had shoved into her head. And a little voice pointing out that he really was very pretty.]

[Oh god what was she supposed to say?]

...Hello Luke.

[Well it was a start.]

12th - BRING IT

Uh... hi.

[Luke stands awkwardly for a moment, as if he isn't sure if he should stay standing or sit down, but finally, he follows his gut and sinks down to the ground. Not beside her, but in front of her, knees bent and arms resting on top of them.

He sways his legs for a moment before he takes his eyes off the ground to look at her instead.]

So, um... I'm sorry. I know it feels really, really strange and... invasive, I guess? When an experiment like that happens.

[She stays silent as he sits, no real idea what to say, just watching him from beneath her bangs. He really was a little bit too pretty for a boy. At least that memory was true. Even if everything else...]

[She cuts off her thoughts as he speaks, and she actually laughs softly, a tired, frustrated sound.]

Invasive? That hardly seems to cover it. Invasive. It was horrible!

[Except it wasn't. And that was the real problem.]

Yeah... it kind of was.

[It's quiet, a little bitter. Because yes, it was horrible, but the "kind of" is what makes it horrible. Not only did it feel awful to have those fake memories and fake feelings in you, but you kind of... miss them. At least, that's how Luke felt. Luke, who never had a brother, who can't really consider Asch one, but would love to. Who hadn't felt feelings like he did with Eleanor for a while now; it never felt right, after Xion left. Sure, his life in that alternate place sucked, and he'd never want to live like that again. But there were certain things...

And Eleanor really is pretty, just like he thought just a few days ago. But...]

If you need someone to talk to or just... talk at, I'm here. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.

[Eleanor looks startled at that offer, for a moment. She didn't know what she was expecting but it hadn't been that.]

I-

[She stops, and frowns, and then shakes her head, reaching up to press her hand into her forehead as if warding off a headache. Finally she sighs, her hand dropping into her lap again.]

Why? You don't know me. None of that was real, I could be a monster for all you know.
