Post-Event Blues

Who: Everybody, everybody!
What: The battle is won. Now what?
When: The eleventh, twelfth, and onward
Where: Luceti
Summary: With Zompano dead and the cultists routed, Luceti is restored. Kind of.
Rating: F for Feels

On the eleventh, things were slowly breaking down. Memories of their true lives were breaking through. The village, scarred by the battle with the cultists, began to rebuild itself. Community buildings that had vanished were returned to their rightful places. The battle dome was uncovered from the earth that had covered it. Hundreds and hundreds of fake homes slowly faded away. Paved roads gave way to trees and grass. It was an incredible sight for anyone who was willing to sit aroun and watch it happen.

Things wouldn't be easy for the villagers, though. The memories perpetuated by the last ten days would not be easily removed. The feelings and hatreds it had created would take time to conquer and remove. Perhaps, in a way, that was Zompano's nastiest trick of all. The village itself may heal from his invasion, but it would take far more than a few Shifts to fix the people left behind.

Towards the end of the day, their wings returned. Much like some of the buildings, they seemed to just reappear, as if they had never been gone. Their barcodes became visible again as a singular reminder that they were, ultimately, just the property of another entity who as a whole were not much better than Count Zompano.

By the twelfth, the village looked as though nothing had ever happened. Sure, the contents of buildings might have been messed up or destroyed during the battles, but things were otherwise as they were supposed to be. The night before, people would have had to find their old beds to go sleep in, as they no longer possessed the old ones granted to them in another life.

The village was peaceful.

Modly Note: That wraps up the event. As noted in the prose above, you have the option to play up the after effects of the event more than in other ones. While it won't have the same impact universally, the Shift was constructed in such a way that people may have difficulty shaking off the emotions they developed during the event. In effect, it was a cruel send off to Luceti so they would have to deal with the loathing and hatred that came with the less desirable parts of it. Of course, that means the feelings of familial bonds will also persist for awhile as well. It's up to you, as players, to decide how much or little to play with it!

[Gone are the casual jeans of the week before; today, she's back in her kimono and shawl, still as pale as ever. Makie walks out of Saori's room, down the hall, and straight past Tony's door. A brief look in, still hunting up lost housemates, and gone.

And a few moments later, her feet take her quietly back to glance in as it sinks in that she-- she's met this man. She can't say know, because he may have been as vastly different as she was. Much of their supposed history has sifted away over the days, but she still remembers their conversation in the jail, that Tony was Shikamaru's father, and she still feels that connection.

Really, she's not too sure what to say. An apology isn't...quite right. But at the very least, Makie thinks, she can check on his welfare.

If he hasn't noticed her lurking awkwardly by then, she raises her knuckles and gives a timid knock on the door frame. It's a gesture that belongs to her other life. Some new habits will die hard.]

[ When she knocks, Tony's attention averts to Makie in the doorway. Nearly immediately, he's perplexed, because his mind doesn't know how to identify her at first. He knows her, but he doesn't. They were married once, but they never were. The lies of the cultists plague him, and he isn't sure which half to believe. His mind is still distinguishing fact from fiction.

But he knows her name - at least, he thinks it's her name. ]

Makie?

...that's right. [She smiles tiredly.] And you're... Mr Stark. [She's just as unsure, with everyone's last names doing a musical chair dance.]

How are you feeling?

[ Mr. Stark, not Tony, and that was how it was supposed to be. She didn't know him, he thinks. Not really. But part of him is still fighting to figure out the history he swore they shared. ]

Tired. [ And confused, but he didn't need to come right out with that. She would figure it out soon enough on her own. ]

I don't blame you. [But the expression on her face is unsure. Tired didn't warrant a hospital bed. She's not met him before-- not really. But Makie finds with a faint sense of misplaced amusement that she wants to pester him on that point, out of concern born from a relationship that never existed.

She quashes it. He doesn't have to explain a damn thing.]

I know we've never properly met. [And we certainly don't have a child together. That thought still hurts. She'd enjoyed having a son.] But I suppose I just wanted to make sure you were all right.

[ That's right - they had never even spoken before. Not in reality. Only in that alternate life that made them once happily married with a son before they divorced. Except he didn't remember any of that, either - not like memories. Like facts instead. ]

"All right" is kinda a vague term. [ Were any of them 'all right'? ] I'll be fine, if it's any consolation.

[ He always was, sort of. ]
therewerefifty: (haha... who was I kidding)

[She smiles at that. Most anyone can ask for, really.

She nearly asks if he's seen Shikamaru. Hesitates. Inclines her head politely instead.]

Take care, Mr Stark.

[Time to continue home.]
alloys: (☢ it is only fourteen dollars!;)

[ He leans back against his pillows. ]

...Right. You, too.
