Summary: Well. So sometimes the Malnosso actually do legitimate experiments that aren't heaped in heavy plot. This is one of those times. Look, just go read the mod post, would you?

Yeah! Maybe! But how would we even move a rock that big? Push it?

[As she talks, she begins looking around again, wandering just a small ways away to see if she can see any large rocks.]

And of course I've never tried! People always say it's really dangerous and that I shouldn't do it, so I don't! I don't want to get in trouble or anything...!

.... [Once she takes the tea, he refocuses on his food quietly.]

I. Don't know. I don't really know either of them very well.

...Right. Maybe we could move it together?

[He follows her; he wouldn't say so, but he's worried about getting separated.]

So what? Maybe the trouble'd be worth it. How much trouble can you get in for climbin' a tree, anyway?

How long have you been with him?

[She nods a bit. Moving it together is probably the best choice. ...It's also likely their only choice, but still. She continues to search as she speaks, stepping carefully over a bit of brush.]

I don't know how much trouble I would get in, but...if a teacher or someone tells you not to do something, you shouldn't do it, you know? I mean, people don't just make up rules and stuff for no reason, right?

[The idea that anyone would do that has never actually occurred to her. She just does what she's supposed to do, like a "good kid."]

[Eugene was still taller and more muscular than Jack was, but putting the bludgeoning weapon down was definitely a start, and he felt himself settle a little with the gesture. Maybe the guy was all right. Maybe they were both just really freaked out and being a bit stupid.

Yeah. Yeah, that was it. Just both of them wound-up and Eugene being the sort to take it a little farther than most. It didn't mean he was going to up and bludgeon anything that wasn't a monster. He nodded, slowly, extending his hand to shake on it.]

[His breath speeds up a little when Jack kisses him and he chases after it, lingering against Jack's lips. He smiles when Jack pulls back, cheeks faintly pink.]

With a request like that, how can I refuse?

[He thinks for a moment before raising a hand and it takes more effort than he'd thought it would, but slowly a web begins to appear around them, threads of light.]

[He pauses from searching to tilt his head to one side and think about it.]

But sometimes their rules are stupid. Especially teachers. I'd only listen to my Family.

[She frowns. Maybe she shouldn't be surprised that this guy doesn't always respect rules, given that he does things like beat up people and...climb trees kind of. She lets out a quiet "mmmgh" before replying.]

B-But people have to be smart to be teachers, you know! And smart people always know what to do, right? ...Besides, I listen to my family, too. ...Oh!

[Suddenly, she points ahead of them to a spot just a little ways off. There's a rather large rock sitting in the middle of some tall grass.]

Um, do you think that'll work?

[foundafamily]

[She has a good point there. He usually relies on his smart friends to tell him what's going on and what to do.]

...I guess. But teachers are different.

[He trots over to the rock to inspect it.]

I think so! Can you help me move it?

[He goes to give it a preliminary push... Yeah, it's not budging.]

[ribbonbon]

[She decides to let the subject go for now. If they're going to work together on this, she figures it's best if she doesn't start any arguments.]

Yeah. I'll do my best...!

[Placing the journal on the ground, she moves to help him push. Really, she's not very strong at all, but she's better off helping than not.]

U-Um, ready when you are!

Ready!

[He's determined, but not strong either, so the rock probably isn't going to go anywhere far.]

To be honest, I really hope I'm wrong. We still need to figure out what the mountains are all about.

[Their handshake was amicable, and Jack didn't seem clammy, which was good. The last thing he needed to be doing was chasing off potential friends.]

I mean, pretty creepy if we wake up in a deserted town. Right?

O-Okay!

[Pilouette begins to push with a small grunt of effort, her feet sliding against the ground uselessly as she struggles against the rock's weight.]

[Firo keeps pushing alongside her, but eventually relents. He stands back from the rock, then kicks it. Predictably, it has no effect.]

Damn it! How the hell are we supposed to move it?

[ribbonbon]

[Pilouette exhales and sits on the ground, pulling her knees to her chest.]

I dunno...It's probably too heavy to pull, too, huh? Maybe if we find a bunch of little rocks and stack them or something...

[It's probably actually not a great idea.]

[Again, he's quiet and he stares at his food, suddenly losing his appetite. He lowers the riceball to his lap and tries not to ball his hands into fists. He can't help the little tears that form at the corners of his eyes, but he can hide them by looking down, using his hair to hide his face.]

I'm supposed to be given away tomorrow.

[He plops down on the ground beside her.]

...Maybe. Or we could just try our luck runnin' in one direction as long as we can. Maybe then we'll get somewhere.

[...

She feels bad. At least her mother is keeping her no matter what's happened. She reaches up to touch him lightly on the back of the hand.]

You could run away?

[He wipes the back of his hand against his eyes and shakes his head, bringing the rice ball up to his mouth to eat for a moment and calm down before he speaks.]

It would dishonour my family - they need me to leave so they can continue on.

[ribbonbon]

I guess so...

[She's not entirely convinced. Her shoulders slump a little as she picks up a nearby stick and pokes at the soft dirt of the forest floor. She looks over to him, pouting a little bit.]

It's not like there's a whole lot else we can do, huh...?

I understand. [Painfully she does. So she lets it go.]

I could come and see you, if you want. If I'm allowed. [She glances up at the buildings.]

[foundafamily]

[He watches her, frowning.]

No... I'm sorry I dragged you out here.

[He wants to blame this place, but that wouldn't be honest.]

...I'm sorry, too. I wasn't really able to help much, was I?

[Then again, as far as she's concerned, she never is. She hunches her shoulders a little, pulling her knees a little closer.]

M-Maybe if you hadn't let me follow you, you would have found a way out of this by now...
