Day 3

[When Peony asked to have dinner together - if she would agree not to wear her glasses during the meal, which was one of the oddest requests she'd ever heard from him - Nephry found herself in the middle of a sea of uncertainty about the whole thing. His reassurances about the "enormous beautiful buffet" don't help.

Still, she joins him at the entrance to the train to Casino Land.]

I hope you haven't been waiting long. [Navigating the world without her glasses on is just difficult enough to slow her down.]

[As odd as his request may have been, it was a relief to know that he wouldn't be hindered by the fear of glass when their appointed time to meet up drew close. However, he felt some guilt because unlike one certain friend, she did need to wear glasses. At the same time, though, the last thing he wanted on top of all the places he had to avoid was keeping a distance from her.

As he had arrived a little too early, he was thrilled when she finally walked up to him from behind the large crowd.]

Not at all. But I hope you're hungry enough for the enormous beautiful buffet I promised to take you to.

Perhaps not for the whole buffet, but at least for a portion of it.

[Close enough that she could see him properly...he looked the same as always. Being this close to him still made her heart do flips.]

[Right, sometimes it was easy to forget that not everyone was as big of an eater as he was. It was all part of being a tall fit man, though.]

Not to worry, I'll take care of the rest. But shall we go? [He offers his hand to her, since it was the least he could do after asking her to walk through nearsightedness. At how close the action is to the memory of the last time they held hands, Peony felt a couple of phantom butterflies in his chest.]

They don't know what they're in for, do they?

[Nephry grins, accepting his offered hand. It's warm. Like the rest of him. She shouldn't think such things.]

You're quite the gentleman, to escort me through an amusement park.

No. I don't think they do, but they might blacklist me after tonight.

[He laughs earnestly at his own joke. And with her hand now in his, he moves to the train that'll take them to their dinner of destiny.]

It's my pleasure to. Now, it's this way.

Thank you, but I'm not so blind as to miss a train three feet in front of me.

[She teases, even with that, thinking he asked her to leave her glasses behind just for the excuse to lead her around by hand.

Three years ago, she would never have indulged this kind of behavior.]

Oh, would you like to lead the way?

[He pauses to tease right back, but unless she says not to he's keeping his hand holding hers.]

I wouldn't go as far as that. It would rob you of your Imperial duty to lead.

Huh. It's nice of you to be so concerned about my duties, but if you really want to take the lead, it won't hurt my reputation.

[Or was that really supposed to be a reminder of his all responsibilities? :(((]

[No, no, it's a tease. She is considerably more comfortable teasing him now than she was the first time he showed up.]

And pass up the chance to be escorted about by Emperor Peony? Perish the thought.

[First the teasing, and now actually sort of being called by his name? It's still somewhat new to him, but he'll accept his luck.]

Then I won't rob you of the chance. Let's go! [Stepping onto the train, time for departure!]

[If she felt she had a choice, she would not sit beside him on the train, but across from him. Being his "date" makes it harder to get away with anything other than the seat directly to his right, though.]

[If she had asked, he would have told her that she could sit across from him and the formalities weren't necessary. Since she said nothing, though, Peony will be the first to turn and get the conversation rolling again.]

So, tell me how the day has been treating you this far? Feeling better?

Much better, yes. I still have something of a headache but it's no worse than a long afternoon spent going over paperwork might cause. How has your day been?

Well, let's hope our dinner changes that. [Because he'd worry if it got to be nastier like they sometimes do. And on the lighter to answering her question-]

My day wasn't quite as rough, though...after everything settled down, that is. I spent the majority of my time trying out the rides and iced treats, so I only had to contend with the resulting dizziness and brain freezes.

[Yes, Peony is the type to really enjoy attractions like these, isn't he?]

Did you manage to convince Jade to experience any of this with you?

Afraid not. As usual, he vanished as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

How strange. He keeps 'disappearing' on me as well, even when I manage to catch him by himself. What do you suppose the problem is?

Well, I haven't actually figured it out yet. But whatever it is, I'm sure it has something to do with coming here.

[There are lots of observations she could make about her brother and control, but they flee her mind when she looks at Peony's face again.]

Well...what do you think about Luceti, so far?

In all honesty? I have my concerns about Luceti, but besides for being kidnapped and all, it's a little like a trip back to the days when I was in Keterburg.

[Or so he says, because he's trying to keep the conversation for this date light.]

It's a bit less wintry here. [Once, she woke up and she was home in her own bed and her own office and it was all a lie. Remembering it now, she winces.] But it is the same sort of quaint, isn't it?
