There's a guide you should read if you haven't. I can send it to you if no one has. There are other prison-villages like ours; they call them enclosures. Apparently everyone from all of them is mingling here.

Anyway. [Back to what's obviously more important.] There's a large dome on the edge of town. It has chambers that display illusions - good ones. Tactile as well as audiovisual. They're useful for battle simulation.

[Mai settles back in her seat, mulling this over. She isn't sure how much she likes all of this technology, aside from Asami's glove. That intrigued her.
Then she nods a bit, adding.]

That sounds better than doing absolutely nothing. I'll go give it a look once this idiocy is over.

That's what they're calling it. I don't believe there isn't some kind of supernatural manipulation going on.

"Absolutely nothing" is unfortunately popular. It's good to know I'm not the only one bored out of my head by it.

It's popular everywhere, mostly because you have people complacent in letting others do their thinking - and their acting - for them.

That's the truest thing ever spoken. I wonder how much closer we'd be to escaping this place if fewer people were content to do nothing.

I don't typically like dwelling on fairy tales that will never come true.

[She reaches for her tea cup.]

The majority of people are self-serving. If it works for them then that's all they care about. You'll never have fewer people content because that's what serves them well.

[...Honestly, there's not a lot Sasuke can say in response to that. She's hit the nail on the head. Instead he shrugs, and lifts his own tea cup to her words before having a sip.]

I'm going to keep working on finding a way out, and on getting stronger in the meantime to face the bullshit they keep throwing at us. [He takes a shallower sip of tea before continuing.] Can I count you as an ally in that?

I don't hate this place but I can't say I love it either. I've never found any place I loved. Whether we leave or stay doesn't matter to me.

[Well, in a way. She has nothing beyond her brother to go back to after all and he'd be in better hands with her Aunt Mura anyhow. There wasn't anything she could give him that would impact him more than the older woman's caring.

Then she gives a shrug of a shoulder.]

I'm not going to just sit back though. I don't feel like becoming lazy just because I'm caught for the moment. If the time comes, I'll do what I can. If that happens to help you then good for you.

[Sasuke's eyebrows rise just a degree or so as she speaks, considering her words. After a beat, and another sip of tea, the corners of his mouth turn up again.]

The right answer's the best one for you. Heh. That's good enough for me, and I'll train with you regardless.
