You needed a disguise on short notice; you had to have killed someone or pissed someone else off.

[Okay there's a lot more options than that, but those are the funny ones.]

Well, it is true I have a bad habit of getting on the wrong side of people. [So cheerful.] But in this case, I think I can blame the Malnosso. I've developed a sudden crippling phobia of my own hair.

[Or...everything orange. But let's not go there just yet.]

That's a weird one. You go to that Bubble Land?

[He folds, despite looking to have a fairly good hand.]

No. [Wow why did you fold with that hand. Nami blinks at it for a moment. Oh well.] Actually, this started before I even got here. I think maybe I annoyed someone. Or something.

[He thinks of how Lee's been refusing to go anywhere alone lately.]

Might be an experiment.

[Dude across the table wins. Oh well, that's how things go.]

I thought it might be, but no one else is complaining.

[She wonders what you're up to.]

Experiments effect people in all kinds of ways, and some not at all.

[There's been a few games like this, apparently. The other players are smiling to themselves in the good luck they've been having, and when one suggests they raise the pot, it's met with a chorus of agreement from everyone but Shikamaru, who instead slouches in his seat reluctant.]

I dunno, guys. Maybe I should quit while I still have something.

[But he's not getting up, and so the other players try to convince him to stay. One tries to invite Nami into the game too, while they're at it.]

[weathervain]

[Hohh. She gets the idea. Nami looks surprised and then flattered at the game offer, pulling her chair in a little closer.]

...I'll play if you play. I don't want to play just with people I don't know.

[She smiles to show it's no offence, guys. She's just shy.]

[endgames]

[He makes a show of thinking it over, shooting Nami a sour look even as he's flashing a thumbs up under the table. After a moment, begrudgingly, he adds the rest of his tokens to the pot.]

If it'll make the lady comfortable, as a man I can't refuse.

[Though the doubtful way she looks at the amount of tokens he's putting in shows she kind of wonders if that's a good idea. But sure. Deal her in. We'll opt out on the go easy on me fellas speech. That's probably pushing it a little too far.]

So... were you hoping to win anything in particular?

I'm gonna get a bed for my store.

Wise plan. That's what I'm here for, really. I've got a whole cottage to furnish.
