Really? [Elizabeth considers this for a moment, then wraps her arms around Gai's waist.] Well I didn't like just watching. I felt like I wasn't even visible. And I understood why, I wasn't angry about it. I knew if it was anything like how we are, you wouldn't let anything come between you and him.

It wasn't anything like us.

[He brushes his lips against her forehead in a reassuring gesture and pulls her close to him.]

It was just a Shift, nothing more than that. There wasn't any real love there at all, and I wouldn't want there to be.

[She nods, looking concerned now that Gai's pulled her against him. He probably can't see the face she's making.]

My heart nearly broke. [And she buries her face in Gai's chest, embarrassed that she let that slip out.]

[He just holds her there for a moment, rubbing her back gently with one hand and letting her have all the time that she needs.]

[And he genuinely is. That wasn't something he would ever have done of his own volition.]

It wasn't you, don't be silly. [She forces a laugh, but tucks herself a little closer into Gai's chest. It did cross her mind--what would she do if Gai fell in love with someone else? It just never seemed like a possibility, with how avid Gai was about their being in love.]

[Another kiss to the top of her head and another quick squeeze, and then he pulls back a little to look down at her.]
