Yeesh, I was going for adventure there. [a beat and] Anyway back on Earth it's better to ask what they don't do. You can use them for everything the journals do as well as other things like global maps, encyclopedias, other stuff.

That depends. Are we talking over a city or over a country? Because compasses don't help a lot for either.
