[For some reason the expression on her face is a bit more sad. She looks to the water again, frowning.]

I suppose it is the same for me, save for seeing any of my family here. My uncle is truly the only one I can call close to me. My father passed away when I was very young, and my mother left me in my uncle's care soon after that. I had no one else.

Mmmmmmm. My father was a strict man, a prodigy when it came to strategy and firebending prowess, but not a particularly caring individual. While he did expand the Fire Nation territories and improved our defenses significantly, I wonder what the world would have been like had he used his power for the good of all instead of just the Fire Nation.

[Not something he usually muses about in public with people he hardly knew. Even those he had spoken with a great deal did not hear many misgivings from him]

It... Likely would have been very different, though I could not say I would know for certain. However, as much as we may wish for otherwise, there is nothing gained in dwelling over what we cannot change...

[After a moment she laughs softly, her eyes closed.]

At least, I believe that is what my uncle would say to you. As irritating as he may be sometimes, I do think of him as wise.

Yes, I have said similar things. There is only what you do with what you are given that matters truly. I like to think that I have done some good in my time, and helped others.

[He looks out at the lake]

I would like to think you have as well - and are still continuing to do so here, bringing people together on such a special day as a wedding... Not just anyone could do such a thing.

I like to think people bring themselves together, I am just there to make it official. The strings of fate bring those who love one another together.

I'm sure it could. My role is largely ceremonial. Love blooms where it will.

It is an honor to be part of the formalization of it though.

[Gosh Iroh let her praise you. Still, she doesn't seem annoyed but just shakes her head, the ghost of a smile still lingering on her face when she does.]

I am sure that there are other things you can do to help others here as well.

Your tea store can help in a way, can it not? You are sharing your gift in the form of good, hot tea that not many would be able to prepare themselves.

Well there is a proverb better to go without food for three days than go without tea for one.

Yes, it is a most civilized drink. Very good for your health, both body and soul!

I have never seen someone so dedicated to it... It is admirable.

[That's a hint of a chuckle and a smile from her, mostly at the elder's enthusiasm at the subject.]

Well, I think that if more people in my nation focused on tea instead of warfare, we would be better off.

... I suppose it would be that way almost anywhere.

[A sigh, and she shakes her head before turning back to the lake waters.]

I cannot say I would know with any certainty -- my home is peaceful, and I do not remember a time when my country was at war.

You are fortunate. I was born during the war, and I lived the majority of my life involved in it, in one shape or another.

I see... I suppose I truly am fortunate. I have only heard tales from my uncle, who has lived long enough to see it many a time.

It is a thing he despises above all else, so far as I can tell.
