A Gaang Reunion

Who: Anyone in the Avatar House.
What: Zuko and Toph's arrival.
When: Around the 13th of March
Where: House Avatar
Summary: Toph and Zuko arrive at the house and information is shared.
Rating: PG, May contain spoilers from "The Search."

Thanks to Appa, the journey to the village was significantly shorter than if he and Toph had walked. Which Zuko took note of as he watched the terrain pass beneath them while on the bison's back.

Once they were in contact with the ground again, Zuko effortlessly slid off Appa's back and looked at the house that now stood before them. It was no palace, but it was certainly a decent size.

"Hello?" he called out. Though Zuko was sure that Appa's arrival hadn't gone unnoticed.

Well, yeah, of course. I mean, there's more of you to begin with.

[Huhuhu.]

You were a lot shorter.

Oh. Right, that. [He rubs at his head with a nervous chuckle. He has probably put on more muscle, too.]

And you're shorter than I remember! But that's not the important part.

[The important part is scooping the little earthbender in a reunion hug.]

[He probably has! Comes with the territory, she supposes.]

Whoa--!

[Toph flails a bit in surprise at losing the ground so suddenly, but-- it's just Aang. Even if he's too tall and heavy and old to be the Aang she remembers.]

[So-- yeah, Toph's hug is a little more awkward, but the sentiment is there. Kind of.]

[Any sentiment is good enough for Aang. He hugs her tight, but realizing it's probably a no-no to compromise Toph's footing like that, he quickly sets her down.]

Sorry Toph! I just... kinda missed you, I guess!

I couldn't tell.

[But she seems less annoyed and more giving Aang grief for the sake of giving him grief.]

Missed me, huh? ...How long've "I" been gone?

Oh! Well... I'm sorry if this is weird, Toph. You haven't been gone that long... just a few months now! [The first time he saw Toph in Luceti, she had been from the same time as him. And the second time, she came from back in the Battle of Sozin's Comet. Now he faced a Toph who was somewhat in the middle.]

But you don't remember any of that. This place is weird like that.

Yeah it's... pretty weird. I mean, you weren't that much taller than me just earlier today.

[And now you can up and pick her up without trying. What.]

Adding all that memory stuff is just icing on the cake.

[He frowns.]

I guess I really am a growing monk... but I'm sorry, Toph. I didn't mean to upset you. At least you remember everything from home, right? And... we're still friends.

[Toph reaches out and punches Aang's arm. As much as it's weird, and uncomfortable, and she distinctly does not like it, she's already done trying to think about this time difference stuff. For now. Right now, a certain twinkle toes is a little too droopy.]

Well, of course we're still friends. That's not gonna change. You still have any of those pastries?

[Way to go, Toph. He actually missed the punches in a sense. And he grins.]

I'm glad to hear that, Toph. [If Toph could still act like her normal self, then it's not so bad.] And don't worry, there's still plenty left!

[He indicates the basket, with what's left after Zuko had his pick.]

Awesome! I'm starving.

[Unless he's moving that basket around with earthbending, she doesn't recognize the basket's there.]

What's it like living here, anyway?

[Right, she can't see. Aang picks up the basket and sets it down on the stone floor to give her a better idea.]

It's - it's like a lot of things. In some ways, it's like that time we stayed at the house in Ba Sing Se. Except... There's not many other places to go. There's no Dai Li, at least! But... there's the Malnosso, instead, and they're not so nice.

...Sounds like a drag. At least we could leave Ba Sing Se.

[Rats. Oh well. Toph kneels down next to the basket to find something to eat.]

I keep hearing weird things about that Malnosso thing. Like they experiment on people and stuff.

That's right. They are weird and they do do experiments. It's probably not the way you think, cuz their experiments... they use thing called shifting. It's like magic but it's science too, and it can make all kinds of things different. Like parts of the land around us, or our abilities... sometimes they can even change our minds and the way we think.

[It's a tough pill to swallow, but Aang knows it's better for Toph to know the whole truth sooner. But he also also knows she won't fully understand what it means until she's been through one herself - just like him when he first got here.]

...They mess with our minds?

[The land around them or abilities, that kind of makes sense... but the idea these Malnosso people can just go into her head and start screwing aruond with it, that's pretty...]

[That's pretty scary.]

...Man, here I thought this place couldn't get any weirder.

[It is scary. Especially with the reminder of Ba Sing Se. Aang does already feel guilty about upsetting her.]

I'm sorry, Toph. This place... finds all different ways to be weird. But at least we're still here, and we'll be here for you whenever you need us.

Yeah. ...I guess it'd really suck to be alone out here. Definitely rather know you'n Sparky and Appa are here, even if you guys are from the future.

You've got Katara and Iroh, too. We might all be kind of future-ish, but at least we're a friendly future.

At least that's something.

[Toph finally manages to find a pastry that suits her, and chomps into it.]

...Not bad, Twinkle Toes. Not bad at all.

[And he smiles at that.]

I'm glad you like it, Toph! [When his friends have been around a while in the past, it's made it easier for Aang to keep track of the treats they like the best and to make sure he can bake those as well as he can.] It's your first Luceti meal.

And it's pretty good. You won't hear me complaining.

[Aang, you softie. But Toph appreciates it.]

At least, not about the food.

[He's the softest bender.]

That's great! Foods one thing that's one of the hardest to complain about around here. There's more than enough food for everyone and everything's free! And we all have dinner together every night. [Like a little Avatar family.]

How incredibly domestic. I like it.

[Except it might wear on somebody's fragile family nerves really quickly. Oops.]

I'm glad you like it! [It's been a change of pace for Aang, living in the same place for this long... but he's grown to like it as well. It's helped that he's had his friends with him.] It is really nice living here when things are peaceful. We just have a few little rules! Like... when making dinner! Everyone has to pitch in with either helping to cook or helping to clean after!

Hey, don't worry! I'd love to cook for you guys.
