A Gaang Reunion

What: Zuko and Toph's arrival.

Summary: Toph and Zuko arrive at the house and information is shared.

Thanks to Appa, the journey to the village was significantly shorter than if he and Toph had walked. Which Zuko took note of as he watched the terrain pass beneath them while on the bison's back. 

Once they were in contact with the ground again, Zuko effortlessly slid off Appa's back and looked at the house that now stood before them. It was no palace, but it was certainly a decent size. 

"Hello?" he called out. Though Zuko was sure that Appa's arrival hadn't gone unnoticed.

[Two years... That's a long time. The thought of being here for that long is a little overwhelming.]

What is it like?

[savedtheworld]

It's like a lot of things. This world can be so new and so scary. And there's lots of bad things. But there's beautiful things, too. And... I've had my friends with me every step of the way. So - so it's been a lot of good and bad. And weird. [He shakes his head, with a sad smile.] I've never been in the same place for anywhere near as long before.

[Well, if you don't count 100 years in an iceberg.]

[lordhotman]

I see.

[Zuko isn't really sure what else to say to that, and Aang is starting to look depressed. Time for a subject change?]

Toph went into the village, but I don't think she will be long.

[His eyes then fall on the baked goods Aang brought.]

You made all of these?

[savedtheworld]

[He nods along with the explanation - he's eager to see Toph, too. He sets the basket down on the table so that it can be rifled through freely.]

Some of them! Ikki and some of the other bakery people helped too. I... I hope you like them!

[lordhotman]

Who?

[He reaches into the basket and picks something at random before taking a bite.]

Fenimore works while we're in school, so she must've made some of it! And I think Duck worked a little today, too. [They might be the only employees left.]

[lordhotman]

You go to school?

[This is said after he swallows. Hm. Not bad. Not great but not bad.]

[savedtheworld]

That's right! [He says, more gleefully.] School's lots of fun, and we learn all kinds of new things!

[lordhotman]

[Zuko considers this for a minute, wondering why Aang would even want to go to school. But if it floats his boat, whatever. A thought then strikes him.]

Is Ikki that girl who thinks you're her grandfather?

[savedtheworld]

[Zuko hadn't been around to see Aang when he enjoyed going to the Fire Nation school. And this school came without uncomfortable propaganda!]

That's right! She is my granddaughter after all. [He smiles proudly.]

[lordhotman]

You don't think that's weird? You're not even old enough to have kids!

[Let alone grand kids. This whole time thing is just...]

[savedtheworld]

So? In the future I will be! And that's where she's from. [He's had plenty of time to think over the 'isn't it weird'ness. And really, all the joys of knowing Ikki ultimately win out.]

Plus, she's an airbender! Isn't that great, Zuko?

[lordhotman]

[He does have a point, but Zuko is still a little weirded out even if Aang isn't.]

Yeah, that is great. I'm happy for you.

[He really is. He's just not very good at showing it right now. So don't mind his lack of enthusiasm.]

[That's very nice of you Zuko, to take care of the being weirded out part for him. Aang just gives a chipper nod.]

Thanks, Zuko! I'm glad to hear that. Oh... and do you wanna hear anything about your own future? [He doesn't really know anything aside his having a grandson, but he could always get Ikki to spill the beans.]

Uh... Sure.

[Actually he wasn't sure if he wanted to know. But at the same time he was a little curious. Hopefully it wasn't bad.]

You do? If you're really sure, you'd have to ask Ikki for details. I... don't know too much about your future! You might have a grandson...?

[lordhotman]

That's not exactly surprising.

[Plus if it's up to Ikki he has a feeling he will hear about it whether he wants to or not.]

[savedtheworld]

Really? I never thought about having grandkids before I knew I had them, but it's probably different for fire lords!

[lordhotman]

Yeah, I'm expected to have an heir.

[Cause well... royalty and all that. But the real questions was with who? There wasn't exactly any prospects at the moment.]

[savedtheworld]

Right, right. Heirs...

But do you know who you'll marry?

[lordhotman]

No.

[savedtheworld]

I thought you might not. In that case... You should be careful about what you ask? Finding out future things can be weird.

[lordhotman]

Yeah, you're probably right.

[He takes another bite out of a pastry and stews over this a little.]

[savedtheworld]

Just something to think about! [They can't unlearn whatever they learn, after all. And he remembers how rough it ended up being for Katara to learn of her future.]

So... How's it taste?

[lordhotman]

[And he certainly has a lot to think about.]

Huh? Oh...

[He looks down at the pastry in his hand.]

It's not bad.

[Maybe a little sweet for his liking but he could get use to it.]
