What: Total Recall 2014, Part 2
When: The second week of the event, roughly April 17th-22nd. As in the last log, the start date is flexible. The end date less so.

Summary: More chaos, more madness, everyone is just so done with this nonsense gosh

Slow but steady, here is the second log for the event. As before, feel free to have your characters post their own entries if you'd rather do that. Here is the first log as well.

[Ginia cleans her hands off before grabbing her notepad again.

Because she knows not everyone has it easy in the world and a kid living underground doesn't get much to eat. Because there's plenty of food here and everyone should eat until their full.

Because she's got a soft spot for kids. They're all good answers.]

Because kids should eat.

[Well, the food looks good, and he didn't see her put anything weird in it, so he's going to eat while she's writing, taking an enormous bite of his meat-bread-vegetables thing. It tastes amazing. He's a little distracted, but when he finishes chewing, he swallows.]

How come you care? Most people don't.

[If kids are supposed to eat, why aren't there soldiers giving food to kids in the slums back home? Not that Farlan's going to refuse this sandwich in spite of his suspicions, and he takes another bite, without waiting for a reply.]

[The answer comes easily.]

Because someone has to.

[It's the only answer, the right answer. Because once she didn't care, once she was privileged enough to not have to worry about things. Though she left that life the moment she enlisted, she was still reminded whenever of things whenever she went to visit her family. They had money, they had the means to survive.

But if humanity was going to survive after the titans, they had to help each other. Things had to change and everyone had to do their part.]

Yeah, right.

[Farlan snorts, skeptical.]

They don't, though. I've never seen any soldiers helping us out.

[So he says, as he eats more sandwich.]

[Ginia moves to take a seat at the table. It's true not everyone feels or thinks the same way. She knows from her brother the Military Police was corrupt and in need of severe reform. And from attending parties on both business for the Survey Corp and on behalf of her family, most nobility didn't care what happened as long as they remained fed, happy, and safe.]]

It takes an effort from multiple people. And the more that help out, the better things will be.

[He frowns, because he still doesn't believe this nice, do-gooder talk. It sounds fake.]

Don't you guys go outside? Since when'd you care about us?

[The Survey Corps gets eaten, they don't feed people. Even if killing Titans is impressive and intimidating--he's still not buying it.]

We care about humanity. It's why we go out to fight.

You don't care about the underground.

[The military doesn't do any good there, and the MP does much worse than that.]

You guys never do anything but go out and die.

[So he says as he decisively bites into his sandwich again--but it's a common belief.]

[A common belief and one she's heard all too often. In some ways, it stings a little more coming from a kid than an adult, because it's the kids that have to live in the future they create.

Ginia's pen taps against her notepad as she thinks.]

Is that what you truly believe? That we don't do anything but die?

Uh-huh. You didn't really do anything, did you?

[As far as he's aware, the Survey Corps hasn't actually accomplished anything. They're intimidating, but useless.]

You kill Titans, too, but lots of you die.

[His words cut deep, maybe more than they should. Because Ginia knows her last moments were spent trying to cut through an impossible horde of Titans, screaming surrounding her as everyone died around her, her own life cut short by a pair of teeth around her torso.

And sometimes she wonders if there was more she could have done. Maybe if she fought harder, moved faster, did something to get her unit out of there. Maybe she'd still be standing alongside Erwin, carrying out his plans, helping him work toward a brighter future for humanity.

Or was that the end of her line? Her purpose served?

She'd snap at anyone else. But he's a kid and so Ginia keeps her temper in check.]

At least we died doing something. More than the nobility sitting around having parties while everyone's dying, more than the Military Police getting drunk and squandering their skills behind the walls.

I hate the Military Police. And the nobles. Anybody's better than them. They eat lots of food and let us starve.

It's better not to die.

[Ginia huffs lightly, a small smile forming. She can't disagree with the first statement, even with a brother in the Military Police.

She reaches across and ruffles his hair fondly.]

Then live. Do what you can to survive, grow big and strong, and make the world your own.
