Ah well. At any rate, this has all been off the topic. As I said, Terrans once thought the native abilities of my people were effectively magic.

[It's a relief to be back on topic, because he's really not very good at explaining his fanboy moments. He's still way too new to this stuff.]

I think first you'd have to properly define magic.

...Huh. I don't know if I could really define something that changes so much.

[He's never really thought about putting a real, cemented definition for what he does, or what people with similar abilities can do. The whole point of magic was that it was inexplicable. That's what made it magic.

I'm still in training, so I can do much... mostly lightning and flying. But I can carry people in the air, and there's some little spells I can pull off.

[Lon sighs. He shouldn't say anything. Terrans get so uncomfortable about telepathy sometimes. But it's grating on him, and he's not in the best state of mind because he can't numb himself to a comfortable state here.]

I'm trying very hard to not hear anything at all, but I can tell you aren't being entirely honest with me because you're doing it quite loudly. It's very annoying, and I hope you realize that.

Considering you're not Betazoid, the chances are that are precisely zero. But if you're fishing for my name, I am Lieutenant Commander Lon Perigen, currently serving as the head of the astrophysics lab on the Enterprise.

[Oh wow, an Enterprise resident? This just got a whole lot cooler. Though he can't recall any long-term Betazoids outside of Troi who were stationed on the Enterprise, so obviously he doesn't know this person. The name isn't ringing any bells.]

I hear it's a big deal to be on the Enterprise. Congratulations.

What is your ambition, once you've finished your compulsory schooling?

Eventually?. Super-heroics, if I live past training. Saving people, fighting villains, doing the good deeds- your standard comic book duty.
