This post is for the draftee-only portion of the Zompania draft--the day 3 death, time travel to day 1, and then the events until the arrival of the reinforcements. Be sure to use the above info post for any plotting needs you might have. Enjoy!

[As he wades into things, Neji thinks back to his discussion with Shikamaru about the value of firearms, and wishes he'd taken the time to get some training in with them. He's really feeling the limitations of close-range combat, but it won't be allowed to hold him back. The best he can do is to close quickly -- ninja speed helps with that, his chakra roaring at full for the first time in far too long -- and go on the offensive before he can be targeted with distance weapons.]

[Neji is a ferocious hand-to-hand fighter; he doesn't waste time at long-range with enemies, but uses ninja speed and evasion to close quickly with any foes. If you look overwhelmed or in need of a respite -- and particularly if you're injured -- Neji will do his best to be there, drawing off enemy attention and dropping foes with pinpoint-precise strikes to vital organs. If you manage to catch sight of him by the scattered lights, you'll see that the Byakugan is active -- veins stand out thickly on his face, radiating from his eyes. It's not perfect night vision, but it gives him at least some semblance of it.

He's been working on adapting the Gentle Fist to this world, too -- if he gets the chance to come at the enemy from behind, he has found ways to target the wings with the Gentle Fist. It is meant for vital organs, after all.]

[There's a price for overusing the Byakugan, and hours of nonstop fighting have taken their toll. At some point, Neji begins to slow down, his vision failing as his body informs him that he desperately needs a rest. If your character is willing to offer him a little bit of cover, he'll gratefully accept, and share whatever resources he can in gratitude.

He does understand the importance of one's companions, after all. As remote as he may be in the village, out on the battlefield there is no such thing as an acquaintance. They're all in this together.]

[Family doesn't leave family behind, and that goes doubly so for Saori. She hasn't ever been willing to let go of attachments easily, so when she sees him beginning to slow she's quick to step in to help. At the distance she's at, it'd be hard to bring magic to bear without risking harm to him, and there's too much ground to cover quickly.

So, she'll opt to utilize some of the training Obi-Wan had given her, as well as her borrowed DC-17 blaster. Perhaps an odd choice, but she finds herself appreciating the new skill almost immediately. Blue-white bolts of energy whiz past Neji, burning holes in approaching enemies. Her aim isn't perfect, but it's good enough to harry them.]

Neji! Fall back! I'll cover you!

[The Byakugan is a great gift for avoiding friendly fire. Neji is nowhere near the bolts as they tear through the enemies he's slowly failing to deal with, and he twists to give Saori a quick look of gratitude.]

Thanks, I need it.

[And he does fall back, retreating gracefully to where she can easily cover him and he won't be in her way.]

You're doing all right?

[She seems to be. What was that thought he was having about firearms training again...?]

[Well with him falling back she lowers the blaster and raises her left hand, unleashing a maelstrom of electricity to force the enemy back. Some make it, others are flash-fried by the intense heat of natural lightning.]

I'm doing just fine. This is nothing, Neji.

[She steps around him, interposing herself between the enemy and him protectively.]

How about you? You seem tired.

Nothing I can't handle.

[The words are automatic. Of course he can handle it. He's Hyuuga Neji. Never mind that he's pushing himself harder than he has in over a year. His full chakra's unlocked, and he's putting every scrap of it to use.]

Still, I won't say no to a breather.
