[ He looked up at the voice, his hand going for his weapon on his hip, ready to fight. He was under no illusions that being merciful or talking would get him out of a situation. The last Draft hadn't worked like that, and if this was Cultists... well, yeah.
But it didn't look like one. In fact, it looked a lot like someone drafted into this mess and dumped like him. Still, he kept his hand on the weapon and nodded, eyes wary. ]
Yeah, I'm fine. What about you? I'm no doctor, but I have a few bandaids.
no subject
Nothing serious. Just trying to get my head back together and figure out what's going on.
[Her lips press together a moment and her eyes darken before she regains her composure.]
You came from Luceti as well? [Her wings flex and relax slightly under her jacket.]
no subject
[ He nodded his head slowly and relaxed a bit, at least enough to show he didn't immediately think she was the enemy. He was sure they might have other problems, besides. ]
Yeah, I'm from Luceti. Call me Kirk. Figure if we're going to be out here, we can at least yell each other's names when the crisis really hits.
no subject
I'm Yoruichi. There's definitely been plenty worth yelling about.
[She blows out a sigh, speaking half to herself]
I'm starting to wish I'd taken my chances and stayed in bed.
no subject
Yoruichi... feel like I've heard that before. Well, guess now's not a good time to think to hard on it, huh?
[ He looked down, checking his weapon again. It had been foolish not to check it properly when she first showed up, but he hadn't had much choice at the time. He noted his charge amount and the setting, doing the mental math. If he used it sparingly, he could make it last a few days. ]
You and me both, Yoruichi. I was comfortable and a very nice, warm pillow. But hey, at least everyone more or less had to wake up with us, right, just not report...

[Is there something familiar about his voice or manner? Her brain is still too frazzled for her to strain it trying to recognize a friendly face. Better to concentrate on the matters at hand for now--the rest will come to her eventually.]
I don't think anybody could have slept through that thing, and I know some pretty lazy people. I guess they believe in sharing the misery around here.
[Even though their presence would be more than welcome right now. She shoves away the thought--yes, it'd be nice to have her best friend here, but she'll make do with what she has. The light, casual banter definite helps settle her nerves.]
no subject
Probably. I like random midnight chats, after all.
[ He didn't need as much sleep, maybe, as he used to. Or maybe he was kind of an insomniac. He wasn't quite sure yet.
He shifted his feet and began to walk, motioning for Yoruichi to follow. He didn't really have a direction, but it was better than nothing at the moment. They'd have to come across someone, right? ]
And hey, what's that they say? Misery likes company, right?
no subject
Funny how that sort of thing is universal. Like never finding something you lost until you buy a new one.
no subject
Haha, I never thought of that as a universal truth, but I suppose it is. Do cords get tangled for no reason the moment you put them down in your world too?
[ He glanced at her, glad for the idle banter as they moved through hostile territory, no matter that it seemed so quiet. Quiet was dangerous, wasn't it? It made his skin prickle, and not in a good way. ]
no subject
Hah. My friend's kids complain about it all the time.
[She suppresses a pang at the thought of Urahara's little household, knowing even minor melancholia is dangerous when she's already fighting not to let her recent revival get to her.]
[Her eyes scan the area, the quiet not escaping her notice. She wouldn't be surprised if others in their situation are slow to begin moving again...but there's no guarantee the enemy is operating under any such hindrance.]
We didn't have anything like that growing up, so I never really got in the habit of using them myself.
no subject
Fair enough. I kind of like them because they're old school, but most of the ones in my world are wireless now. Besides, the wired ones work if your wireless gets cut out or the buds fry. Say what you want of old tech, it's at least reliable.

The village? Heck no. My world can go into outer space, transmit long distance, made contact with aliens, even jump to ships in mid-warp. My world is way more advanced than the village.
no subject
Space? I don't think--no, I heard humans went to the moon a few years ago--
[More like 40 years, Yoruichi]
--but I don't think they've gone any further than that.
[Absently, she speaks of humans as "they." She doesn't really hide the fact that she's not human, but people being how they are, she doesn't normally publicize it either. But right now, she's rattled enough not to think about it.]
no subject
[ It wasn't like such speech bothered him. He had met enough aliens that it wasn't really a thing he found odd anymore. ]
Heh, we're waaaaay past that. I was hoping to snag a five year mission for exploring regions of space, but then things went sideways, so who knows if that will happen.
no subject
[It's murmured, as she thinks about key moments that had sent her life spinning off into entirely new directions. She'd never regretted following her friends into exile, but she'd be lying if she said that's how she'd always pictured her life going.]
Five years, hm? My best friend's a scientist and would probably jump at the chance for that.
no subject
All of the science officers on my ship were jumping for it too. And the ones not on it. It's a prestigious gig, if that's your sort of thing. Maybe I get it, when I go back home.
