[Much weighed on Cliff's mind as well. Between the looming threat of a bomb that they knew would destroy them and the very present, though scattered, threat of disaster on the battlefield, the Klausian was too distracted to press Ion for details about his uncertainty that he hid behind that flat affect he wore. There would be time later for everyone to recover-- they just needed to survive first.]

I haven't heard a thing 'bout the bomb either, kid. [Cliff shook his head when he made his confession, as if to say that the actual details of it were something that was out of his hands. There were plenty of people who were already looking for it and, while Cliff was keeping his eyes and ears peeled as well, he wasn't going to interfere with any of their plans.] But...I've got faith the people here. We're gonna find it, no doubt about it, and we're gonna stop it.

...it' not often that we'd actually get a chance to do something like this either.

...no. I didn't even think something like this could have been possible, to prevent a disaster even after it's already happened. Back on Auldrant, it was possible for people to read the Score in order to see what it predicted for the future, but even that doesn't compare to something like this.

[Though he's already had his fair share of uncomfortable moments where the fanaticism of the cultists became too reminiscent of those who adhered religiously to what the Score foretold -- those who would allow the deaths of countless innocent people just because their beliefs told them it was right.]
aerialassault: (careful -- overdid it there)

There's nothin' even close to that back home for me, [Cliff admitted. The very notion of anything resembling the Score that Ion spoke of bothered him to no end-- but, he wasn't the sort to let a few words in the newspaper determine his fate for the day either.

He scratched his head and glanced off as he encountered another uncomfortable thought that hit him fairly close to home.]

The only thing we've got like it is in the sim games that some kids play. Lose against the boss and you can start the level over, but you already know enough so you can try to change the way it ends for you.

...damn. Now I wanna know how that guy did this.

[Annoyance briefly flashed in his eyes when he realized the ramifications of it. This was not a feat that he appreciated.]

I suppose it would be too simple an explanation to say he accomplished it using whatever technology powers their shifts. Even after all this time, there's not much we know about how they work, is there?

[Only that they can occur naturally, and when done artificially they can be capable of seemingly anything. Even the barrier they lived in was described as something meant to both keep them in, and keep the natural shifts out.]
aerialassault: (thinking -- with Mirage)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2014-05-30 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Even with what little we do know, it seems impossible.

[He scratched his chin, momentarily pondering over what he understood about the Shifts of this world. Time fluxes seemed like a normal thing....but moving a whole population backwards in time so that they can change a future?]
distressedude: (All my misgivings...)

[personal profile] distressedude 2014-05-31 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, at this point I'm inclined to think they're capable of doing just about anything, so long as the one controlling them knows how to use them.

[Experiments aside, they use them to stock the village, completely create structures of of seemingly nothing, and were even involved in that little test where they were sent back to their own worlds for a day. Moving back time didn't seem all that complicated in the face of things like that.]
aerialassault: (headscratch -- + Fayt and Mirage)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2014-06-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
....Yeah. Probably. 's weird, even after all this time all this stuff still weirds me out.
distressedude: (Are you stupid?)

[personal profile] distressedude 2014-06-04 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's to be expected. Their technology involving shifts is likely becoming more advanced as time goes on. I imagine they'll only continue to be capable of even more unbelievable things soon enough.
aerialassault: (cocky -- i dare ya to say that again)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2014-06-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Then we've just gotta expect more crazy crap from them in the future. Then, they can't shock us!

[Problem solved, except Cliff knew that this particular incident would be sticking in his craw for a long while after they got back to their bubble.]
