[He’s too grounded in the reality of war in all its unforgiving bleakness to see Eugene’s intentions as anything other than foolish and his flat expression says as much.]

And where to shall you drag the corpse? [Pausing, he throws an arm out in an expansive gesture.] To a grassy, spotless hill where the sun shines warm and you might toss him into a hole in the ground whilst the Third Party wait ever so politely for you to finish?

[A bitter smile flickers at the corner of his mouth as he leans in, lids lowering, his voice deeper and deathly calm.]

Welcome to war, friend. You would do well to remember where you are, lest his foolish death shall be in vain.

[If he had need of convincing as to why he hardly kept company with Isaac, this would be a reason enough for him. Though it was nice, he supposed to focus on anger instead of grief, and his jaw set. Why was Isaac even here? To gloat that he had lost Jack to this? To mock him in his grief as though he had never seen bloodshed and warfare?

He didn't owe Isaac an explanation and while he waxed poetic about his opinion on Jack's reasons for getting killed. Or how he was being foolishly sentimental. Eugene was already stooping down to lift Jack. He was heavy, deadweight, but it was better than leaving him behind.

Currently he was beyond formalities and niceties. He just wanted this conversation to end, and for Isaac to go about his business.]

Go fuck yourself, Isaac.

[It’s a simple answer, blunt though shorter than expected. And while he smiles cooly yet, unfazed, the words are met with a surge of demonic magic under his skin and Abel reacts to the shift in energy, twisting its head around to slant Eugene a baleful look. It drifts towards him, snarling, taut and brimming with violence waiting to be unleashed in an explosion of movement – and stops as Isaac lifts a hand.

A misplaced moment of mercy, he muses, in a place like this. There's nothing to gain from it and nothing of much importance to lose by forgoing it, he's more and more convinced.

But he finds some small, barely-there excuse to keep Abel in check, regarding Eugene a moment as he hoists Jack – or what was Jack – up into his arms before turning away.

You were always so very graceful.
