It might help if you did that.

[He both is joking and isn't. He's self-aware enough to know when his mind is spiraling down into dark places, and at this point, he's not so sure that a good hard slap might not be what he needs to knock some sense back into him and keep him from wallowing.]

I hardly feel like myself right now after the last few days.

[musubi]

[He doesn't slap him, but he gives the blond's shoulder a shake.]

I know, man. But you gotta hold onto you, you know?

I'll try to stay close by.

[The shake is much appreciated, as he tries to show with a little half-smile.]

What about you? How have you been holding up through all of this?

[No doubt it must be worse for Isamu with his ability to see the carnage surrounding them.]

Yeah... I mean I haven't been here as long as some people. You guys've got it worse so it feels lame to complain.

[He might do that later anyway.]

So you'd prefer to listen to me do it instead.

[A weak joke, but he's trying. At least it's something.]

Yes, exactly.

[Another shoulder pat.] Now let's get you to a better location.

You're going to rest too. I won't let you wear yourself out trying to look after me.

[He reaches up, groping for Isamu's sleeve so he can have some sort of physical contact to use as a guide if he's going to be following his friend somewhere.]

We can take turns keeping watch while the other sleeps.

I haven't been here as long as you. I'm not nearly as worn out.

[Not that he has anything against taking a break, but he's only willing to look so lazy.]

And you aren't going to get as worn out if I have anything to say about it.

[He may be terrible at looking after himself, but looking out for people he cares about is something else entirely.]

Fine. Look, if it gets you to rest then I will too.

[ledbythewind]

I thought you might see things my way.

[There's a faint hint of a smile to his tone now, tired though it still is. Just having Isamu around is enough to bolster his spirits somewhat.

But the grip on his friend's sleeve gives away how tense he is beneath all of this.]

Yeah, yeah.

I'm checking you over more thoroughly when we get to a safer location.

[That means taking off most of your clothes, bony. He doesn't even care.

Isamu holds tight to Richard's wrist in return, giving it a assuring squeeze.]

If that will make you feel better, then I have no objections. I suppose I should at least try to clean up somewhat as well. I can't imagine I'm much of a sight the way I am right now.

[Clothing removal will be allowed as long as they aren't in public. He does still have SOME decorum even in a situation like this.

Still, he is glad for that squeeze, and he allows himself to lean a little closer for a brief moment.]

Please do. You'll look better for it.

And get something to eat. Don't think I won't shove something down your throat if I have to.

[He won't, but he'll be very insistent.]

[His expression turns almost incredulous.]

I wouldn't know where to even start looking for food here. This place has been largely picked over by now.

[Yeah, that's pretty much a dead giveaway of how well he's been eating over the past few days. Which is to say, hardly eating at all.]

Those that came with our relief group brought in more supplies. You should be able to take a proper break for the first time in a while.

[And it looks like he needs it.]

A proper break...

[Food and rest. Both things he's in desperate need of, much as he'd prefer not to admit it.

Good thing he won't have to-- his body will take care of that part for him, the tension all ebbing away and leaving him shaky and unfocused now that the adrenaline is wearing off and the full realization of just how exhausted and stressed he is begins to set in.]

Yeah. Whoa, hey.

[He stops in case Richard needs the support.]

Don't collapse on me until we get there, okay?

[The support is appreciated-- Richard will lean heavily for a moment before he straightens up again.]

I'll do my best, but I'm afraid I can't make any promises on that end.

You've gotten this far. You can make it there. Then you can relax all you like.

Use that thought to spur you on.

How very kind of you to offer your services as a pillow like that.

[Isamu, of course, did no such thing, and Richard knows this. He also knows that now his friend won't be able to say no all that easily.]

Wow, look who's presumptuous.

[Reaching back to toss some of Richard's long hair in front of his face.]

I'll charge by the minute.

[Richard allows it, though it's only a few seconds before he shakes his head to settle his hair (somewhat) back into its proper position. The entire effect is not unlike a bird tried to nest in his hair.]

Your threat would be more effective if there were were a currency I could pay you with.

Think I can't figure something out? You'd be surprised.

[Of course if he cared that much he'd be working for an actual reward.]

I think that you're too lazy to do so, even if you can.

[Because he knows Isamu too well.]
