[ Shikamaru keeps going on missions. He's well respected by both MARS and the MSF, and had all but charmed that girl Molly, who had a connection with the old CEO as well as the Rogue Malnosso. He'd made solid impressions on current and previous high ranking officials in the Organization they had gone through over and over and if you asked Masaomi, of anyone in their enclosure, who would be promoted up out of it, it would be him.

... He's not sure if Shikamaru would. He's not really dared to dig too deeply into it. But they both know, particularly with how he's seemed to have spent more time out of their enclosure than in it in the last few months ]

I don't. [And he sighs, barely audible through the hazmat suit, like he doesn't really care.]

You're the closest of any of us to be taken in by the Organization.

[ Unless there's some shadowy figure he doesn't know as much about Albert ]

[He snorts, loudly.] That's funny.

The funny part is you thinking I could change something like this in one lifetime.

[He shakes his head. Lord that's a riot.]

[ Okay no, he is going to be deadly serious here. He reaches out, and he puts a hand on top of Shikamaru's shoulder, and leans forward to get direct eye contact with him ]

[ He has absolute faith in that ]

[Shikamaru stops, meeting that with a blank look and stretched silence. That's some misplaced faith you have.

And then he starts again.]

Honestly, I never thought about it before. [Now that he has, running the calculations he figures he'd need at least two lifetimes, maybe half less if the first went well.] Not that it matters. Changing how the Malnosso handle their own affairs is contrary to what really needs to be done.

[ No it's not. And the fact you're not believing in it just baffles him. ]

Yeah, probably. The whole view this world has going needs to be changed.

As someone who stands a better chance than the rest to leave it someday, I don't care to have a stake in that argument. The first priority is preventing more people from coming to this world. The second is determining a method to evacuate anyone who can leave it.

Ideally you wouldn't consider the rest until after those objectives were accomplished. The Cultists make that impossible, of course, but if you could pull it off it would their methods wrong.

[ You know those are the sort of objectives he was expecting to hear... but honestly, Masaomi connects the both of those are being things which are directly related to the Malnosso's methodology. After all, they have bee trying to evacuate people for years, as the premise of the enclosures... right? Maybe? ]

But that's the view people needed to accept. But then, we're both little kids who are pawing at a world we don't get. Who even gets people here?

Someone higher up the food chain than anyone who'd give us an honest answer.

Hah. That's annoying, right? That all these people are so cagey about so little. Like damn, what's the big secret.

[ His tone shifts here, forcing a laugh and waving a hand. He's showing that he's trying to lighten the mood here ]

Shit, the way they act about it I'm not sure I want to know. Sounds like a bad manga.

[But can it ever be as bad as his manga? The world may never know.]

Right? Like I keep expecting some imp to come out and tell us we need to power up to the next level.

[Naturally this would be the point where an animal squeaks loudly not far off in the woods.]

[NOT EXACTLY SURE HIMSELF, Shikamaru cups his hand over the flashlight so as to not draw attention to themselves. It didn't sound like a Shift Hunter at least, so maybe it's something harmless that'll pass.

A few seconds later there's some rustling and if you look to the sky you can make out a large bird taking off away from them with something in its talons.]

No such advice from that one.

[ He also looks around in those few tense seconds before, oh. Huh. ]

Wow though, you don't see birds that big usually.

We had some in Konoha. Raptors, or sometimes carrion feeders.
