(no subject)

Who: Gai, Elizabeth, and all invited (and possibly some uninvited) guests
What: A wedding!
When: Just before sunset on June 30th
Where: The beach
Summary: Finally, after much planning, pre-wedding jitters, and ice cream consumed, this is it. The big day. Gai and Elizabeth are finally getting married. (Never mind the fact they've been technically married since the draft... shhhh.)
Rating: Keep it G, people, this is a public venue.

[The ocean has returned, the day is clear and sunny, and wedding fever is back in the air.]

[This time the location is the beach, and between the setting sun, the waves, and the decor there is no lack of ambiance. little battery-powered votives in paper lanters litter the space, and larger lanterns line a yellow petal aisle that leads up to a decorative arch with a few chairs. Over to the side is the reception set up, which looks like it can accommodate more guests than the ceremony. Frames draped with chiffon and lit with little electric light strings indicate both food and bar/drink areas, and similar setups surround both small and large tables for seating, lit both with electric lights and votives in varying glass jars. And of course, there’s music and an open floor for dancing.]

((OOC: Close CR/specifically invited friends are welcome at the ceremony, but the party is definitely for anyone who wants to come see the spectacle or welcome back the ocean! ♥ ))

I imagine that you will be able to pause to adjust to the sensation as often as need be.

[One braid finished, she loves to start the other, lifting a new cluster of hairpins to tuck into the corner of her mouth. It is much easier to look stately and empty-handed when one moves outside of linear time, unfortunately.]

There is a certain element of theatre to all of this, after all. A bit of stillness often does wonders for dramatic effect.

Do I look silly? [Elizabeth sounds mildly alarmed. She'd fussed over the dress so much, gone back and forth over the flowers and the pleats and all of it, that she'd become almost sick of looking at it. Maybe it did look silly and she just had no idea what she was looking at anymore.]

You might look silly if you wore this to a fencing tournament. The mobility does leave something to be desired, as you've said.

[She glances down at the entire affair, the dress and bare feet, and lifts a brow before returning to her appointed task.]

But no. As a bride, you look perfectly lovely.

[Alright, the image of her fencing in a wedding dress does make her laugh. Elizabeth smiles warmly, but twists some of the tulle in her hands in a bit of a nervous twitch.]

Thank you. I feel like I've been staring at this dress so long, I don't even know if it looks alright or not. I'm glad I only have to dress like this today, otherwise I'd never get anything done.

One could argue that you're getting quite a bit done today.

[She finishes with the last lock, making sure everything's in place before beginning on the flowers. It occupies a stretch of several long, quiet moments, before she thinks better of her silence and speaks. This is the time for speaking, Robert would argue. After all, Rosalind is hardly one to forever hold her peace.]

Ultimately . . . the deciding virtue of this ceremony, as far as I am concerned, lies entirely in your desire for it. [She tucks a bloom into place, deliberating in thought just that moment, restlessness of her mind eased by the work of her hands.] I have always found your finest feature to be how intuitively and entirely you make your will a reality in the world. 'The Lamb' was the diminutive misnomer of a small-minded man. In my mind, you were always the Word.

[Elizabeth titters nervously and lets the silence stretch on as she watches Rosalind sort out the flowers via the mirror. True enough, there was going to be quite a bit of activity once she was actually dressed and her hair was done, but compared to her everyday activity throwing a ceremony and a party seemed a little unproductive.]

[But what was one day spent living a little frivolously? Especially after Zompania.]

[Her thoughts stopped when Rosalind spoke again, and Elizabeth finds herself looking a little awed by the statement. It was true, of course.]
I guess it was just another attempt to make me feel like I was born to be shepherded. Or he was deluding himself into thinking I was less dangerous than I am. Lambs aren't really known for their lethality.

[She snorted quietly and turned the thimble on her pinky.] He took a stupid risk, betting I would grow up into a sheep, and he lost it all.

Having been party to his quite literal ascension, I would put more credence in his lies always being first and foremost to himself. Even if a man would willingly put his face upon stained glass and statues without being capable of a fair amount of self-deception, I am certain he would not remain so for long.

[She gives a soft hum, pondering where to place a particularly prominent flower, and though she does not smile there is a subtle satisfaction in her voice.]

What do you think you have grown into, rather than being a sheep?

[Elizabeth keeps her head still for the flower, though her eyes come back up to the mirror so she can look at her own grim expression. Talk of Comstock always had the tendency of putting a damper on her mood--]

[Looking into the mirror, her spine stiffened and her muscles tensed. Images again. Her, looking into a mirror in a bathroom. Young, then older, then older again, then covered in blood--]

[Then it's gone and Elizabeth is clutching her dress and sucking in deep breaths.]

A woman.
