[Sokka actually would feel a little bad about yelling at Korra if it weren't for the fact that he's still a little terrified by this very large bear-like creature. Not only did he just have a very bad experience with a bear VERY RECENTLY, there's also the fact that not all polar bear dogs are quite as nice as Naga.

Of course, the polar bear dog coming right up to sniff him causes him to panic juuuust a little bit, but he's not fast enough to avoid the incoming lick. He's not grossed out by it at all, but that doesn't mean he has to be the happiest about being covered in dog slobber. He looks at Naga with a rather odd look before shifting his gaze back to the Avatar.]

I can see that. At least she's friendly?

Definitely friendly! As long as she likes you. [ Korra smiles and pats Naga's side. The polarbeardog wags her tail once more before barking in Sokka's face again and running off to the back of the house. ]

Don't break anything! [ Korra calls after her, shaking her head. ] Sorry, we weren't bothering you, right?

That's... comforting... I guess...? [Granted, Sokka likes animals often for dinner, but... yeah... circumstances and all. It certainly seems like Naga was all happy to see him, though he really couldn't tell. He still looks a bit unnerved, but well, who can blame him?

At any rate, after the polar bear dog runs off, Sokka adjusts a bit, and he's practically so shaken from the experience that he pretty much forgot what it was he was doing.]

Uh, not... really? [Oh yeah, THAT.] Oh well, I was doing a bit of studying... you know, work that requires a fair bit of concentration. [There's a tick of annoyance...]

[... But... after a moment that disappears, and he actually looks more relaxed.] Though it's not like this house is exactly all that peaceful all the time. And I could use the break. So... welcome? Come on in?

She listens to me, so don't worry too much about it. [ Although she looks a little mischievous as she says it. Thankfully (for Sokka, at least) Naga has gone off to explore and probably won't be back for a while. Probably. At the welcome she smiles and inclines her head gratefully. ]

Why thank you! I'd love to. [ Sure she was still a little nervous, but there was something about seeing someone confronted with Naga that just helped. ] As long as it's okay to interrupt your studying. What exactly were you studying, anyway?

[Oh, Sokka sees your mischievous look, Korra. He's so relieved.

After a gesture and stepping out of the way, he closes the door behind her.]

I present to you the Avatar House! The kitchen is over there, we've got a pretty big open space upstairs as well as downstairs. All of the girls sleep in the rooms downstairs, while the upstairs is for all the guys.

[Though he's a little taken back when she asks what he's studying.]

Well, I haven't told anyone too much about it yet, but... I'm trying to learn how to firebend.

[He's just going to leave it like that... at least for a few seconds.]

[ She follows after him into the house, turning her head and following along as he describes the different rooms. ]

It's huge! I mean, I know it's for a lot of people, but… I wasn't expecting to see such a big place here. [ And she's just about to ask to get a closer look at some of the rooms when he mentions what he's studying. It takes a second, then Korra turns to Sokka, confusion written everywhere on her face. ]

Firebending? Like, the art of… bending fire? [ Just in case she misheard it. Korra tilts her head, unsure of how to say this, but- ] You can't bend. Can you? [ I mean, she's totally seen non-benders gain bending abilities PRETTY RECENTLY, but Sokka getting firebending just sounded bizarre. ]

[theideaguy]

Yeah, we've got one of the larger houses in the village. I'm guessing because there are so many people from our world? Pretty weird since there are so many empty houses.

[Yeah, he knew his talk about firebending would get a rise out of her. It'd get a rise out of anyone that knew Sokka even remotely well.]

And well, it's not real firebending. It's... fake firebending? Magic stuff that looks like firebending. Only... not? It's weird because it's based upon words you say instead of all that whaaaaaaa hiyaaaaaaa chop-chop-chop movement stuff that you and the others do. [Yes, that is totally accompanied by all those fake moves.] Someone from another world is teaching me, but... here... it's easier to show.

Sphera ignis!

[And in Sokka's outstretched hand is a very small sphere of fire that forms for a brief instant before flickering out.]

I'm having trouble keeping it alive, but otherwise... it's working?

[ Okay, she can't hide the fact that "fake firebending" has got her intrigued, particularly coming from Sokka. In all the stories she's heard about him and their adventures the fact that he couldn't bend was sort of always a thing. Not a bad thing, just a THING. So she's still a little skeptical as she waits and watches and- ]

Woah! [ Amazement lights up her face as she actually leans closer to see the fire. ] Thats incredible! How are you doing that? [ For a moment she actually considers looking around to make sure Zuko or Wan weren't hiding and playing a joke on her, but it passes with only a few glances around the room. ] I can't believe it. And fake firebending too, not even fake waterbending!

[theideaguy]

[It's certainly no joke. Sokka's face lights up just by the fact that it's at least working to some degree. His face also lights up because there's FIRE and therefore LIGHT there. But still, that someone else is gawking over his "bending" is still pretty incredible. He feels rather proud of himself.]

I have no idea how it works! [Way to sell yourself, Sokka.] You just say the words, concentrate really hard, and whoosh! There's a ball of fire! There's a bunch of spells that I haven't gotten around to learning yet, but this is the first that's actually working!

Amazing! [ And she really means it. Bending was one thing, and non-benders learning to do it was another, but this wasn't even bending at all. ]

Magic and spells, huh? I don't know… but you're right, it's definitely not bending. I can't believe you learned something like that here.

[theideaguy]

I can't either! I mean, there are lots of nonbenders in our world; I think there are many more than benders, all things considered. I'm so used to the whole idea of just being able to do things with plans and weapons that anything... well, "magical" seems crazy to me.

[He shrugs though and leans against the wall.]

But honestly, it might prove useful one day, so I'm going to keep at it, especially if with this war thing going on.

But from what I hear your plans and weapons and things were pretty useful. [ To say the least. But she nods slowly. ] Can't say I blame you. You think you'll be able to still do it back home?

[ At the mention of "war" it takes her a moment. Aang and Zuko said that they were form after the Hundred Year War- and that had to be the one Sokka was talking about, right? ]

Is the war still going on back in your time? [ She sounds surprised. ]

[theideaguy]

Well, yeah, sure. It was hard being the idea guy and the boomerang guy. [There's some obvious melodrama there. You know he doesn't actually mean it.] But those skills were just not... [Hmmm, how to put it?] They're just not as showy. Truth be told, I was a little bit jealous of Aang, Toph, and Katara for a while.

[He shakes his head at the mention of the war though.]

Naw, it's been over for about two years by the sound of it. Though it wasn't for Katara. She never saw the end apparently.
