What: First Week(s)? of School and other catchall
When: September 17th-25thish (17, 18, 22-25 are class days; others can be used for clubs or tutoring or hanging out and the like if you want)
(Classes run from 9 AM-roughly 2:30 PM, and the log can include before and after-school activities)
Where: The school! (someday there'll be a cohesive layout for this)
Summary: The new year of school is finally underway, with testing, a look into classes, and general interaction for all involved.

[As mentioned here, it's the start of a fresh term!

For some sense of guidelines, the morning of the 17th (Wed!) will be filled with testing and review, for new students and returning students alike, until the lunch break. (And if anyone misses the initial testing, they can always take it at another time! Very handwaveable, that.)

Students can chat before they begin or after they finish, but they will be penalized for during. There will be baked goods and lemonade as a treat during the lunch period and after school. (If they need more time for the tests, they won't be allowed to leave the room with the others, though snacks will be made available for them as well.) Newer students can request a tour (if they hadn't received one already).

The playground is always open for after school or lunch break interactions.

The other classes - Art/Music, Magic, and World Sharing - will continue on as usual, and will be similar through the week. Magic will start off with questions about progress during the break for those pursuing interest in the spirits, and demonstrations, as well as a chance to compare the concept between worlds for the newer arrivals. World Sharing will allow students to show off locations in the battle dome, either ones previously viewed or new ones they want to introduce.

The other days will follow the usual schedule!

You're not limited to the headers! Just do what you want--these are just some suggestions as to what's going on, but they aren't the be-all-and-end-all of what can be played with! Chat with each other, set up things! And by all means play with the current ongoing shifts! It's meant to be for CR!]

[It is a rather fascinating thing to watch, even Jack will admit to that. That's part of why he likes the piano so much, to be honest-- all of the mechanisms within it are not that dissimilar to the clockwork that he himself works with when crafting music boxes and watches.]

Nothing at all, not even remotely similar?

No, nothing this big. We have stringed instruments, horns, flutes, and drums.

[Really all they have are instruments that are small enough to carry around. Nothing nearly this massive.]

Well, I suppose there are advantages to smaller instruments. As nice as pianos are, they aren't exactly the most portable. If you want to perform a piece that involves one, you'll need to be in a place that has a piano already.

That sounds really inconvenient.

[What's the point in playing an instrument if you can't take it with you and have to rely on one being there? This piano looked like it would be a pain to move around. Not that it couldn't be done. But still.]

It certainly can be, yes. It isn't much of an instrument for impromptu performances.

[And most definitely not for street musicians.]

So then why do people play it?

[He's never really heard piano music before, so its not like he can understand.]

[Rather than answer that with words, Jack just returns his fingers to the keys and begins to play a melody. The tune itself is fairly simple, yet the emotion in it is almost palpable as Jack plays.

Hopefully that will be enough of an answer for Zuko.]

[When he began to play, Zuko listened with rapt attention. He stood there in silent awe, letting the notes fill the air. It was... unlike anything he had ever heard before. It was... beautiful. And moving. Now Zuko understood.

When the melody ceased, he was speechless for a moment, but then looked at Jack with a new respect.]

That was... beautiful. Could you teach me how to play?

[While he had always been told that he was gifted with the tsungi horn, it wasn't really his favorite instrument. Now, Zuko think he had a new favorite.]

But of course!

[Jack looks positively thrilled at Zuko's interest in the piano. The best kind of student is the one who doesn't need encouragement to start something, who instead decides to give it a try of their own free will.]

My job as a teacher is to teach whoever wants to learn, and if you'd like to learn, then I am happy to teach. Ah, but you'll have to work hard-- playing piano takes a considerable amount of practice. Are you willing to put in the effort?

Of course.

[Zuko says this back sincerely. Jack will find that Zuko is rather driven when he puts his mind to something. He's a quick learner as long as he has the skills to match. As it had been when Sokka taught Zuko how to hunt and use a boomerang.]
