After months of planning and roping in poor, innocent people to help out with some of the work it's finally done. An actual festival, all for the starfish.

The morning of the 14th mostly consists of people arriving, the stalls being brought in and decorations being put up. It's all about the preparation! Most of the decorating consists of banners and streamers you might find at a school festival, all hung around doors and windows and between the buildings in the plaza. And star shaped pieces of card being stuck up here and there in places too. If the decorations don't tell you what's going on then the banners saying 'STARFISH FESTIVAL' certainly will.

Come midday the festival is in full swing. There's plenty of food at many of the stalls (either prepared by Fuuko and the other girls or brought in by other villagers) ranging from cake, ice cream and different kinds of sweet things, to starfish tea, sandwiches, all sorts of festival fare. There are a few games set up too where it's possible to win starfish related prizes like pins, badges and even plush toys and some stalls are even giving out wind chimes. Finally there's also a little entertainment provided with music being played in the background throughout most of the festival. (You should totally go listen to Kotomi giving her very own violin recital.)

By night time when most of the food is gone there will be a fireworks display to bring an end to the festival. Hopefully the Starfish Festival would be a day to remember!

(You didn't need to receive an invite in order to come, that was just the girl's attempt at getting word of the festival out there. The festival is open to anyone and everyone to come along and have a good time.)

[ Madoka came to the Starfish Festival, of course. How could she refuse an invitation from one of her friends, not to mention another friend of hers was also one of the people who organized it.. Except she didn't come alone. After discussing the festival with Kyon a while ago she managed to convince him to come as well, and so Madoka is dragging leading him across the festival, rather excited about it all.

Feel free to run into the two anywhere on the festival grounds - they'll be browsing the stalls and walking around and pretty much everything. ]

Of course it's big! It's a festival, after all! [ apparently Madoka doesn't see that much wrong with the idea of a festival this big dedicated to starfish.. ] It seems Fuuko-chan and Nagisa-san really worked hard for this.

I suppose so. It kind of begs the question "Why starfish?" though, doesn't it?

Um.. well, I think Fuuko-chan really likes starfish for some reason! I don't think I've ever asked her about the reason, but.. [ hmmm.. ] Don't you think it's nice to like something that much, Kyon-san?

Well, I guess it might be, but it seems rather arbitrary to me. Wouldn't you normally like, say, classical music or kabuki theater or something like that?

But there are other people who really have an animal they like too, right? I think one of the girls from my class was a really big fan of horses and horseback riding, so.. starfish are just like that!

[ not like starfish are much weirder of an animal or anything.. ]

I guess. But you can do things with horses. Like ride them. Whereas starfish kind of just... sit there.

Maybe we'll find out from what kind of things they have at this festival...

Ah, how about over there? I think they're handing out starfish cake there, doesn't that sound nice?

[Ayumu doesn't appear at the festival until the stars are coming out, because the return of spring means the return of hot and sunny weather which he despises. He thought Eu would want to see the sights, though, so once it was safe he brought her along. Right now he's left her somewhere else for the moment, and Kyon and Madoka can find him carrying cups of starfish tea.]

[ Oh, hey, she manages to spot a familiar person in the distance! She calls out without thinking, really, at least she knows Kyon knows Ayumu too.. ]

Ah! Ayumu-san..! Over here, it's me and Kyon-san! [ -- wait, it's then that she realises that after the last time they talked she heard he's a zombie and never.. got to bring it up with him because of that.. .. awkward. ]

Did you come to the starfish festival too..? [ It's okay, just don't think of how he's a zombie-- Ayumu is Ayumu no matter what, right? Even if she can't stop thinking of it somehow.. ] I didn't know you were coming at all.

Yeah, I'm surprised you're getting into the starfish holiday spirit, Aikawa.

It's something to do, isn't it? Plus Eu wanted to see the fireworks...

Ah--! I don't think it's a bad thing to come to this festival at all..

[ because he sounds a little defensive, doesn't he? and Kyon hadn't entirely understood the reason behind a festival for starfish either, so.. clearly she has to smooth this over, go go Madoka!! ]

The starfish are pretty cute, after all. Right, Kyon-san?

[Point of clarification: Haruhi is not at the festival.

But the festival is also in the plaza. Given she lurks in the Brigade HQ and has a meal with whoever of the Brigade will come to Seventh Heaven every Saturday, these two actions means it is impossible to avoid the plaza. Which also means, of course, she sees Kyon on a date with jailbait.
