TERRACE Draft - Remaining Days

[Frey isn't the only one who rises quickly when the alarms sound, especially when she was used to having to prepare for battle in an instant. That doesn't stop the worry and confusion from creasing her brow though, grabbing her staff first. Proper clothing wear could wait until after they had some idea of what was happening.

Of course her attention is also on the people sleeping around her, Frey in particular. What would this mean for their side?] Freyjadour?

Tear. [He's up and awake, Tri-nunchaku already in hand after it had been tucked at the side of his bed while he slept. His head was, thankfully, clear now, clear enough for him to take in the chaos going on around them.] Something has set off the base alarms.... It doesn't sound like a signal for deployment at all.

No it doesn't, there can't be any surprise attacks already can there? [It had only been a few hours since they had retired for the evening, and even then there should have been more advance warning than this, shouldn't there? No matter, the fact was they were being attacked, and needed to act quickly.

Fortunately she had been able to sleep in most of of her uniform, it was simply a matter of trading her slip for the outer dress and adjusting her garters.]>/small> Will you be ready to go soon?

I don't know..... But given the situation, we might need to proceed with that in consideration until we know otherwise. [Better to take caution when given warning to, then to ignore the warning entirely.

Frey himself had only the outer leathers of his uniform to slip on over the thick undercloth and his pants, and he's already shrugging on his jacket as he nods. The clothes, while ornate looking, were designed with resistance in mind and built to be light armor of a sort. Luckily he had left his hair up when he slept last night...] As soon as you are, I imagine.

Then let's be going. [She had just finished fastening her dress, checking to make sure the knives in her garters were secure before chancing a look around them to the others getting ready.]

Did you see anything remotely suspicious yesterday?

Right. [He's slipping on his gloves and fasting his belt around his waist, choosing to keep his weapon in hand for now rather then return it to the attached holster.]

I did not. We will have to seek out more information first, I think.

[Tear nods in agreement, already moving out toward the door and only just looking over her shoulder to make sure Frey was behind her. Whatever this was, the last thing she wanted was to lose track of him. Her other companions had each other, and she could check on them once they assessed the situation and formed a plan.

When she reaches the doors she strains to see what was going on in the darkness outside, able to hear commotion but unable to tell anything yet. If something was attacking, why weren't the outer guns firing?]

[Freyjadour follows close behind Tear, though he does make sure to give her room to maneuver if they run into trouble. He didn't know much about the technology of this place, let alone the guns, but his thoughts ran along a similar line-- this place was fortified enough that there should be some difficult breaching it's defenses. It was worrying.] We need to be careful.

Do you think we should chance going out there now? [Others would already be doing that, but it didn't feel right to just stay behind and wait for more information either. If this truly was a surprise attack, then it would mean more casualties on their side the longer it took to band together.]

We don't have much of a choice in the matter, I think. [He wasn't keen on waiting for someone else to come back, possibly injured, to give them information on the situation.] Are you alright with heading out now?

[She closes her eyes for an instant, breathing in slowly, but when she opens them again her resolve is firm. There could be no room for any more hesitation, especially when the lives of her friends and innocent people was involved.]

Let's go.

Right. [He nods, gripping his weapon a bit tighter and stepping up next to her. There was no time to waste.] We can both keep an eye out for danger as we go.

[Her answer is only a small smile – he didn't have to say that out loud, when she had already intended to do so. Right now her destination is the docking bay, figuring that they would need to secure the port if this was truly a surprise attack, but it wasn't going to take long to encounter their enemies. Attention is drawn toward the sky, eyes widening as she realizes the cultists were descending upon them from above.]

[Not long at all, really. The battle has already started, and with that aerial advantage of theirs, it's no wonder that as soon as Frey and Tear are out in the open they get spotted right away. Frey grabs Tear and tugs her away behind a dividing wall just before some arrows are let fly in their direction.

They were probably planning to pick people off from the air as they exited.] So it is a surprise attack....!

[Tear can only find time to nod in agreement, already closing her eyes in concentration so she could summon the power of the Second Hymn. It would only last for so long, but it could provide them and any others nearby with the protection they would need to try to gather their resources. Although, she could just as easily be placing the spotlight on herself for holding such a power, but that she can deal with.]

Oh tune of unyielding protection... Kuroa ryuo tsuae tue ryuo rei neu ryuo tsuae...

[Luckily enough for Tear, while she's calling that protection Frey's working on incanting a quicker, but more offensive spell himself. Wind gathers and forms razor sharp discs, shooting towards the group in the air that were making their way closer and slicing through the wingspans of two of them, sending them falling to the ground, while scattering the rest.] I've grounded two of them.

[The force field is complete just as the last note leaves her lips, allowing Frey's attack to pass through easily while providing them that protection. She watches the enemy fall, though her mind is still active in trying to figure out more solutions to their current circumstances.]

Good. We have a bit of time, but once this barrier is down they'll probably be waiting for us. What do you want to do?

We'll have to lure them closer to the ground unless we choose to use more magic. I can use my Tri-Nunchaku to pull them out of the air if they get close enough. [They'd have to give them a reason to come that close, though, which meant making themselves vulnerable.]

We should try to keep our magic limited, who knows how many there might be later on. [Even if that would also be limiting herself to a degree, being one who relied on a battle strategy of using fonic artes and physical strength alike.]

The outer guns, we should also see what is going on there if possible.

Agreed. We need to conserve it for when we absolutely need it. [Who knew when they'd be able to sleep?]

...We'll have to draw them in by making ourselves vulnerable, then. Or perhaps with a distraction.

... Then so be it. [She didn't like the idea of risking themselves in such a way, but it would lead to their only advantage right now.]

We'll have to strike their wings, and if that doesn't stop them then we have to be prepared for close combat, and more of their allies to come to their aid. [She hadn't even realized that she had slowly been positioning herself so she was back-to-back with him as she spoke, ready to defend him as the time for the barrier to fall approached them quickly.]

I know. We'll have to stick close. [If they went out there, they'd need to watch each other's backs.]

Now get ready. [And on cue, the barrier falls, revealing their enemies poised and ready to strike once it does. Tear falls into a defensive stance as she quickly aims one of her throwing knives at an oncoming opponent's wings and raising her staff at almost the same time, ready to throw a blast of fonic energy or strike at their foe if necessary.]

[Frey keeps an eye on the enemy, and when one with a spear dives close, he's quick to dodge out of the way, lashing out with his Tri-Nunchaku and dragging them down.] Tear!

[The instant she hears her name she springs into action, twirling her staff in her hands so the sharp blade of it makes contact with one of the cultist's wings. The amount of force behind the blow is enough to dig through the wing, but it wasn't a clean cut. Wasting no time she throws her weight into it, dragging him further down and breaking it in the process, almost ripping it off completely. With the enemy distracted by his pain, she pulls back with staff in hand, driving it into the cultist's chest.

It was a brutal killing compared to what the quick and clean ones she often did, but they were at a disadvantage – now was hardly the time to worry about being graceful in battle when they were still feeling out their strategy.]
