The adventure to the past is over; the villagers have all been sent home to their own time. But things are different. The changes of the past have echoed into the future. And the world has responded in the strangest way. Why are so many people here all of a sudden? And why are their memories such a mess?

[Ion won't be too hard for her to find, but chances are he's going to notice her first -- if only because he might not be as easy to recognize seeing as he's grown a bit in the past two years since Toph was last here. And also given the fact that he's out for a run, which is something he's only picked up in the past few months.]

[But their paths cross over sooner or later, and seeing her has Ion double-taking so suddenly that he nearly trips and lands on his face. Though even the voice might sound just a bit off when he speaks up -- it's a bit deeper now, after all.]

Toph?

[ she almost doesn't process his voice, but when it clicks, she skids to a stop.

that's - but that can't be right. he doesn't sound right, he doesn't look right. why did everyone think they could just go ahead with growing and changing while she was away? ]

...I-Ion? [ she sounds uncertain; she hates that tone in her own voice. ]

[After Ion's run-in with Guy, who hardly recognized him, it wasn't hard to imagine that anyone else who knew him from two years ago might run into the same problem.]

You remember me. [The words tumble out before he can think about them. He'd heard of Toph returning before, but she had never stayed long enough for them to get reacquainted -- she didn't remember who he was, after all. But she said his name. That could only mean that she has her memories of Luceti this time.]

I can't believe it... how long have you been back?

[metalbends]

Yeah...I do remember. [ but she doesn't remember him like this. she figured out she's been gone for awhile - almost two years - and granted, now that she's getting a better look at him, he's more the same than different. but it still doesn't sit well with her. how could she have missed so much when she was barely home for a moment? ]

Just a few hours. You're not gonna get all sappy on me now, are you? [ in spite of herself, she can't help a small smile. ]

[Hey man, he already fought the urge to just run up and hug her, since he's pretty sure he'd get punched for that. But that's about as much restraint as he can manage!]

Only a little. But I hope you won't fault me too much over it? [And he's smiling too, quietly taking in how she really looks just as he remembered -- if not just a bit shorter, since he's gotten taller.] After all, it's been awhile since I've had a master here to keep me in line.

[metalbends]

[ he would definitely get punched, at the very least, but at least her punches are at least a good sign? usually??

she crosses her arms, sighing. ]

I know, I know. I'm surprised you're not handing out flowers and singing about it. Guess some of my training sunk in, huh?

[Wow come on he wasn't that bad!!]

Oh, yes. Actually, I was just out for a run before I ran into you.

[And look he's not completely out of breath or anything!]

[metalbends]

[ she lifts an eyebrow. consider her marginally impressed! ]

...Huh. [ yeah, that's all she's got. 'huh'. ]

...do you not believe me?

[Because that's about the reaction he got from Kohan when he mentioned it, and he's pretty sure everyone else just thinks he's going out for a brisk walk around the block or something.]

[metalbends]

Sure, sure. Sure. [ okay, maybe she sort of didn't, but ion wasn't the type to make stuff like that up, so... ]

[He's telling the truth, really!! But he's probably not going to be able to convince her. He wasn't exactly in the peak of health the last time she saw him, so he can understand it at least.]

Well, regardless, it is good to see you again. To be honest, I'm a little surprised you recognized me. One of my friends from Auldrant returned today as well, and he almost walked past me without saying anything.

[metalbends]

I, uh...heard there's been a few me's running around since I was last here, too. [ might as well own up to it. ] Kinda sucks, huh?

[distressedude]

[Ah, is that what's been bothering her?]

Mmm. It is in the nature of this place to bring people back like that without their memories... though you were never here quite long enough for us to become reacquainted. But I suppose that's mostly my fault.

[He tells himself there was just too much going on whenever she was here, but really, maybe a part of him was just afraid to face her knowing she wouldn't remember everything they went through together.]

Hm. Guess that's good, then. I don't like the idea of someone taking my spot. Even if they're, you know, me.

[ it's complicated. but it is a relief to know she doesn't have catching up to do in thet regard with ion. ]
