DOESN'T NEED A CUT. People should know how this works, if not, just follow other people's lead. I'm gonna set up some strategist threads at the top, for the four strategists to use if they want to, otherwise people should start their own threads.

[When the magical fog dissipates, Leon is immediately looking around again--the sky, the ground, and everywhere in between. He doesn't see the soldier anymore.]

Did you hit him? [He calls over the distance, bringing his free hand up to shield his eyes.]

[Asad brings a hand up to see if he can find where the soldier went. He's not exactly the best shot, but not that horrible.

He's really not liking this one bit. he should have been able to disable a wing and force him to ground.]
Don't see any sign of him. We should probably take this chance and get out of here before he comes back with more.

[He's not really liking the idea of doing that, but remaining isn't any better.]

[Instead of answering right out, Leon hurries back over to join the man. He'd be more than happy to get out of here.] I was heading back to the distribution center.

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So was I. We might as well stick together until we get there. [Because there is indeed a chance those two who got away will be back and Asad will be damned if he lets anyone go off alone in a situation like that even if he wasn't headed in the same direction.]

Sounds good to me. [He pauses, trying to get his bearings in the field. The distribution center looks far away right now.

But he's ready to go whenever the man is. ...Which reminds him.]
Oh. I'm Leon. ...Nice to meet you.

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nice to meet you, Leon. I'm Asad. [He quickly takes a look around to get his bearings too, and also one last scan of the area for the enemy.

And it's still clear as far as he can tell. Hopefully it will remain that way...]
Let's go. Keep an eye out, I have a feeling those ones who got away will be back.

[And he'll start heading towards the center, making sure Leon is coming too. He's inwardly cursing the fact that some of the enemy got away, but isn't going to be showing that one bit right now.]

Okay. Got it. [Taking orders in the SOS Brigade made it much easier to accept another's orders, but it was also clear that Asad was more comfortable on the battlefield than he was. So he's eager to nod and follow after the man, still looking around as carefully as he can while keeping a quick pace.]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Asad will definitely be keeping a quick pace too. But not such a quick pace that he can't keep an eye on their surroundings and they will tire themselves before getting to their destination.]

[Leon grimaces as their journeying takes them through a cluster of hen houses. He's distracted by the various colorful versions of the normal chicken he's used to seeing, that scientist part of him stirring curiously at the new sights. Some chickens scatter noisily as they begin moving through the area.]

Re: [Last Day]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Leon's distraction isn't a big deal, yet. Asad is taking the opportunity to look around for more Third Party because there is a very large chance that a sudden amount of noise like that is going to alert any nearby to their presence.

And he sees some movement, but it's gone so quickly that it's hard to tell if it was his eyes playing tricks on him or it was one of the chickens and not a soldier. Still, it didn't hurt to be careful.]
Be on guard, Leon. The noise may have alerted the enemy to our presence.

[And then he's going to pick up the pace a bit more.]

[Last Day]

[identity profile] book-of-chaos.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. [Leon drags his attention away from the chickens, rationalizing that he wouldn't be able to take anything back with him to study, anyway. ...They were just chickens anyway.

He holds his tome close, ears twitching at every slight sound in the noisy area. Now that Asad's cautioned him, he's nervous again. Would they be able to run if they were attacked here, surrounded by the hen houses?

So he hurries after Asad as quietly as the chickens allow, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Like Leon, Asad is nervous about the location and the fact that he saw something strange. But the longer it went without more enemy soldiers arriving, the more at ease he felt that it was just a trick the light or a chicken or something that wasn't a threat to them. Still, it wasn't time to relax just yet.

But the location was definitely a bad one. The hen houses didn't look like good hiding places since there wasn't an additional way to escape. On top of that the chickens would alert the enemy to their presence the second they went inside one.

He's keeping up the pace, but definitely making sure to watch behind them especially. Even if he's becoming more convinced that he was seeing things, the enemy is still out there and he's not letting Leon get hurt.]

[ooc: Should we have more appear within the next tag or so? Maybe right as they get out of this area so Leon can escape easily enough? Just want to make sure Leon can escape all right after Asad goes down.]

[Leon follows closely, trying not to let the clucking get to him. He'd prefer the relative quiet of the fields right now, where there was less cover for potential enemies and far less distractions.

He's about to comment that they should just run when a hen house somewhere behind them seems to blow up. He jumps, automatically swinging his head to look in the direction of the fire. If he wasn't so shocked, he might have yelled something.

He sees an Elite touch down on the top of another hen house behind him, and he blindly moves away from that general direction, not knowing what may be ahead of them.]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-07 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Asad looks quickly behind them once he hears the building blow up, because that made it obvious the enemy was here. And damn it, that sure looked like it wasn't one of the normal soldiers. Still, if it was only one Elite, that could be dealt with.

And he was about to use one of his Marks to deal with the Elite when he could hear the sound of running. He turned his head in that direction thinking it might be another soldier and sees Leon running.

He had to make a decision quickly, because the boy blinding running away like that could be the death of him, but running after Leon leaves the enemy at his back to attack.

Asad pulls out his sword so he's ready for an ambush behind him, and takes off after Leon. There was no other choice because he'd not abandon one of his allies to possibly run into a worse situation because this had to be a trap. And he doesn't make it very far before the Elite follows.

And Asad turns to attack just a bit too late. In time enough that the Elite's sword isn't able to take out both of his wings, but it still took out one. A loud scream tears out of Asad's throat because that was incredibly painful and causes him to miss his attack on the Elite.]

[identity profile] book-of-chaos.livejournal.com 2011-03-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Leon stops when he hears that scream, eyes wide as he turns back to look towards Asad. His jaw drops at the sight of Asad's severed wing, and it takes a moment for his shock to make way for action. He was in trouble-- they were in trouble-- and what was he doing?

His first instinct is to call upon a spell--something fast, anything that might stop that Elite.]

Shadow Bolt!

[Because it's such a quickly-cast spell, its accuracy and strength are lacking. But Leon is already hurrying back to Asad.]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-09 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Asad so badly missed his own attack that he nearly ended up falling just from that. Truly, it was becoming hard to concentrate on even standing upright like this. He knew in the back of his mind that this was very bad. One more hit like that and he's not getting back up.

But he was very determined to make sure to take this Elite out. They were too close to where the injured and non-combatants were and then there was Leon who he knew couldn't handle this on his own.

He may feel weak and shaky, but as long as he can stand up, he can at least use his Marks. He'll use Flame Vortex again to summon a pillar of flame and hope very much that does the job.]

[identity profile] book-of-chaos.livejournal.com 2011-03-09 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Had he really run that far ahead of Asad? Leon felt anxious as he ran through fleeing and flying chickens, batting at them with his free hand. He could see the flare of magic as Asad cast another spell, and initially wasn't sure what to do. Did that work? Was that enough?

His eyes widened as he saw the pillar of fire bend. The Elite was trying to use the fire against them, even while being engulfed himself.]

[Last Day]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-10 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[And Asad can only stare in horror as the pillar of fire bends toward him. His Marks being used against him?

The moment he feels the flames touch him he has some sense to try and do something. It seems the flames won't go away, but he somehow is able to quickly use Magic Canopy to at least lessen the overall damage and hopefully the range is enough that it's protection will extend to Leon. The boy is going to need it he doesn't survive this.

When the flames finally vanish, the Elite still isn't dead and Asad is barely standing. He's using his sword to hold himself up. He's covered in burns and his remaining wing is partially burnt off also.

Well, he's not going to use that again. But really, at this point there is little he can do unless the Elite actually makes a move, so he'll just make himself an easy looking target by staying where he's at for now. If the Elite comes into a closer range, he doesn't plan on letting himself go down without a fight.]

[Leon sees what seems to be a barrier briefly encase Asad, and dismisses the initial thought to try casting a barrier on him. Instead, he focuses on another spell, hoping to finish the incantation while the Elite is still trapped in the fire.

But he's only part way through the spell when the Elite emerges and quickly advances on Asad. ...And making matters worse, there seems to be another Third Party soldier landing on another hen house.

Reinforcements?!

He abruptly changes his mind, focusing on an area spell. But his eyes keep flitting worriedly back to Asad. Concentrate, damn it.]

[identity profile] magecaptain.livejournal.com 2011-03-10 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Good, the Elite did just what he wanted. If his Marks could be turned back on him, then this was the only way. Even though he knew he was in no shape to dodge the blow that was coming.

He brings up his own sword as quickly as his battered and burnt body will allow as the Elite advances closer.

And right as the Elite's sword is about to impale him, his own sword is in position to do the same to the Elite.

And as he feels the sharp pain to his chest from the Elite's sword, at least he has the satisfaction of knowing this one was going down with him.

He loses his grip on his sword and sinks to his knees before he falls over with the sword still impaled in his chest. He tries to move an arm to remove that but finds it is beyond his meager remaining strength.

Sorry, Leon. He really did mean to make sure you got to safety. But he's not getting back up this time.

But at least the last thing he can see is that the Elite is most definitely in the same shape he is, on the ground with a sword in his chest.

And he dies at least knowing that Leon's chances for survival are much greater with that one gone.]

[He's too slow. He's too slow. He hasn't practiced enough. The negative thoughts threaten to stop Leon completely, even as he watches as Asad tangle with the Elite.

And then everything goes into slow motion as he sees Asad fall with a sword sticking out of his chest.

His mind goes blank. He barely sees the Elite fall in the same condition as Asad; all he sees are feathers and fire. But there are still Third Party soldiers there. He can't see them, but they're there.

An incantation comes to mind, again replacing the last spell he had been trying to get out. A sudden surge adrenaline allows him to spit out the words quickly and invoke the complex symbol associated with it.

He's never cast it before. But now-- now he had no allies on the field to worry about.]

Extinction.

[The symbol saps a lot of his own energy--there are many functioning components and massive effects that follow. Enhanced further by the tome he holds, scrying crests appear in the air and rain down meteors with surprising frequency. They crash to the ground, causing great damage and catching the reinforcements in the broad spell range.

When the shaking finally stops, when the dust finally settles, there are great amounts of destroyed hen houses, chicken corpses, and the scattered bodies of the few Third Party reinforcements. The earth and nearby field are scorched. Leon sits down heavily where he had been standing, dazed.

He feels sick. And even though all of the soldiers are now taken care of, he feels more helpless than he has in quite awhile.]
