[there's a bit of wordless flailing as she wraps her head around this idea, before actually managing a sentence, laughter threatening to bubble through the words]

Would you be horribly upset if I said you look adorable?

Not upset, but I wouldn't believe you. This face looks like a chicken laying razors. [He walks up to her, peering up.] You're like something out of one of the stories my nurse used to tell when I was a boy.

[his comment gets her to look down at her webbed hand, eyes resting on silvery-blue skin with a slightly embarrassed look] The kinds of stories I used to read, too. We both are.

I always wanted to be in one of those. This was a bit unexpected, though.

I'm not. Do you know what it's like to feel the need to clean something, all the time?

[slipping her feet from the water, barely even noticing the chilly spring air against the damp skin, she'll move closer, crouching near him to get a better look. It was a little uncomfortable, like the feeling of sliding out into cold air after having been huddled under cozy, warm covers, but not enough to really bother her]

Yes. Apparently I'm a brownie. Mr. Giles said the desire to clean is part of it.

We'd better keep you away from my apartment, then. [her look is a mix of amusement and sympathy]

Is there any upside? Anything fun, to go along with the cleaning?

Not so far. Although it does make me like cleaning. Cream and honey both taste better. Eventually I'd like to try my hand at curdling milk!

[a pause, as tends to happen now, when Jack is mentioned. But her tone is musing when she speaks] I could get there pretty quick, actually, like this.

...I don't know if I could bring you with, though. We'd have to be careful you didn't fall in the water.

Is water bad for me, then? [He's not about to jump in, but this would be good to know.] I'm fairly certain I didn't lose my ability to swim.

[a laugh] I don't know. I wouldn't think so? But that's an awful lot of water...and not a lot of you.

[the river wasn't too wide for a human...but he was only 7 inches tall]
