Who: Anyone who wants to come!
What: Autumn (Equinox) Celebration
When: Today, at 9PM to Midnight (and maybe even after)
Where: Around the Rec Center
Summary: Brigade party! There's food! There's lights! There's music! There's fireworks!
Rating: A for Abacus

There were lights! Autumn-appropriate decorations! There were tables of food (though very little of it is vegetarian friendly)! There was even a stage for music and entertainment! Still waiting was the fireworks to take place at midnight, but otherwise things were set up to more or less respectable Brigade standards. Maybe Haruhi hadn't done it herself, but it was done well enough, thanks to the efforts of being coordinated by Mikage.

The stage was left open for anyone to perform that wanted to. The karaoke machine had been dragged outside for people to sing along to, regardless of talent, or otherwise just to play music when no one was on stage. Naturally inside the Rec Center itself is a variety of pool tables, foosball, air hockey, and a TV with some video games. Just enough to keep things a little fun. If only there was a pool.

I haven't the faintest. [He smiles a bit.] Happened on it myself and figured there was no harm in adding to the guest list. It seems informal enough.

[He extends his hand.] Anthony Blunt.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Glancing at the hand briefly, he then takes it and gives it a fairly firm shake, his mild smile returning.] D'name's Mac. Nice t'meetchya, sir.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles.] Please. It's "Anthony."

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotchya. [Mr.Anthony it will be!] ...So, uh... guess if it ain't no fancy party, I'll have one a' them hot dogs. They look real good. [He moves towards the table, grabbing a paper plate.]

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I certainly think there's more than enough.

[He glances about the room, picking out his friends' positions without letting his gaze linger. All still well, good.]

Quite the turn out. Are you... familiar with this place? I'm afraid I've only just arrived.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mac looks up with half that ketchup-drizzled hot dog in his mouth.] Mmmf, weww- - [Hold on. Chewingchewingchewing.... aaaand, swallowing. There you go.] Oh. I ain't ever been to d'Rec centre here before so I can't really tell y'much.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Anthony laughs.]

I'm rather new to the place entirely.

[But he has learned. He'll wait for the man to finish eating before he continues conversation. Which doesn't diminish that smile.]

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[It doesn't take him long to wolf the rest of that down, and there more than likely is a spot of ketchup on his chin. Classy.] Oh! Y'mean, new t'Luceti?

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. Yes. Precisely.

[And Anthony will pick up a napkin and offer it, still smiling.]

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[The little guy blinks at it, as if unsure what purpose it serves, before accepting it.] Uh, thanks. [He'll just hold onto it, yep.] So, um... y'got a book when y'came, right? [Pausing, he fumbles for his journal, but that tank top has no pockets, naturally - and neither do his pants.] Aw, man, I f'got it in my room. Anyway, it's jus' like, uh... like some kinda video camera in a book. When y'see it, you'll know what I mean. It's got a whole bunch a' stuff written 'bout this place. An' if y'don't feel much like readin' it all, they got this neat lil' thing where you can listen t'the words.

...I feel the intense need to apologize for Tony.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[...It might well get him punched. Anthony is fully aware of that. But he's taken the chance before, and he can give as good as he gets if a blow's struck.

So.

While the younger man talks, Anthony picks up another napkin and uses it to wipe at the bit of ketchup on Mac's face. Perfectly friendly, a simple smile, and no remark.

His smile increases only slightly at the words. He files the actual information away. Something to discuss with Guy and Kim later. Right now, there is something much more interesting in that statement.]

Perhaps you could show me how to use it sometime. When you haven't... forgotten it. That is.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Whu- -? [Mac might be a professional boxer - at least, back home -, but his reaction to unusual situations is sooner to back up or dodge than to throw a punch, unless there is little way around having to smack someone.

What an unusual thing to do. He cannot help but boggle at the gesture because that was the sort of thing his mother would do when he was a child.
]

U-uh... [Wow. Rubbing awkwardly at the nape of his neck, he glances aside. What were they talking about, again? OH, right, the journals.] Thanks...? [He doesn't really get it, but in a way, that was kind of nice of the man to spare him some future embarrassment of being seen with a bit of a messy face. ] Yeah, uh, sure. I mean, it ain't no big deal once y'mess around with it.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
No trouble at all.

[That smile hasn't changed.

He sets the napkin aside but does not take a step back from the slight advance that had been necessary to clean the ketchup off. Nothing more, though. Just that retained closeness and that smile.]

Wonderful. I should be able to pick it up quickly enough then.

I do appreciate the assistance. It's good to know fellow residents of this place are so... welcoming.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ain't no problem, Mr.Anthony. I sure met some real nice people here.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm quite glad of it. Rather a strange place, though... A friendly reception helps, I'd say.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Mac's expression grows increasingly sober.] Yeah...

[Finding himself in Malnosso captivity not long ago, he has yet to shake off the uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach especially after sun-down, when he lays his head down on his pillow and stares at the wall, just hoping he won't be dragged back. He sleeps these days in snatches; hopefully this will improve with time.]

It can be kinda scary sometimes. [His thoughts drift briefly to Ami, and her help at the clinic.] But it ain't all bad. It's nice, lookin' out an' watchin' the sun go up.

[Anthony nods slightly.]

It helps, I imagine, to have friends.

[The words are leaving his lips before he realizes it.]

Friendship is everything.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lifting his head, he glance at Anthony after a moment.]... Y'know, I don' hear many adults sayin' stuff like that. 'ts like they're embarrassed or somethin'.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I have heard a shocking amount of people who seem to assume that once you reach some magical age, you are suddenly "independent."

I have found quite the opposite. As one gets older, one has more and more need for one's friends.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Are any a' your buddies here? ...Hey, wait - maybe you can check for 'em at the Welcome Center! Mr... uh... Giles - that's it - he showed me a big book where y'can check out the names a' everybody in Luceti. Then there's a book where you can write a lil' somethin' t'somebody who ain't around so if they ever show up, they got somethin' nice t'read.

[identity profile] winksandnods.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I woke up with two of them here, thankfully. Guy [it takes some looking to find the small man, but he points him out] and Kim [at the billiard table... chatting up a girl already, not surprising], whom I am certainly relieved to know are, at least, here with me.

[identity profile] pugilistinpink.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's real nice. Guess they feel the same way, huh?
