so pile your boots up in the corner -- hang your jacket from the door

Who: anyone invited to house seven's thanksgivingstravaganza -- as well as anyone walking by who might be curious about all the brouhaha.
What: giving thanks!
When: forward dated to november 24th due to predicted holiday hiatuses!
Where: house seven!
Summary: friends, food, fondness. family. festivities.
Rating: g for goin' up.

House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

Mix! Mingle! Make merry!

(ooc; threadjack into oblivion and don't forget to add your character to the entry tags! have fun! note that this is forward-dated. i'll be tagging around myself later this evening. )

Totally got this. Helios nods while the terminology she uses is a bit strange he can sort of follow it.

"It's been hectic what with Halloween." But that's in the past and what happened is best not lingered upon at least not in this setting. So Helios smiles motioning to the ongoing festivities around them.

"Enjoying yourself? It's all very impressive isn't it?" He's still in awe a little at the work put in and done to decorate everything. It had to have taken a considerable amount of time.

She nods. It's more than a light one - a bit more deep, a bit more solemn and meaningful. This is an important day for people in Haddyn, and she's glad this reflects it. Here in Luceti, with nothing to cling to, her pride in her hometown has swelled to much more than at home.

"Yeah, I'm liking it." A beat. She tugs lightly on one of her earrings before looking back up at Helios properly.

"Less skew than Halloween too."

"Very much so. I can agree to that any day. Especially when the Malnosso have a hand in it. Halloween usually isn't much different back home." Halloween wasn't a very good one to say the least which makes it two for two here in Luceti. Helios' throbbing hand is a constant reminder of this. He'll look at Melaka thinking for a second.

"Has it changed much, Thanksgiving I mean? I-I know lots of different traditions usually do over time. B-But I wasn't s-sure." Halloween being a very prominent one. He's not sure how much Thanksgiving could change but it's always interesting to ask.

"Seems like. You guys don't seem to do the gifts."

It was a big day, in Haddyn - at least in the warrens. Like tokens of affection, little things to show how thankful you were to someone else. Not that she had many people to give things to other than Loo and a customary thing to Gunther but.

"Gifts?" Like an early Christmas of sorts. Helios hums a little to himself.

"Though I suppose getting gifts to those who you're thankful towards would make sense." He's never thought about it that way. Maybe once he gets back home, and if he remembers, he'll start doing that as well.

" 'Course it does."

It's only obvious this is the correct way to do things.

A thoughtful hum as he looks around.

"I'll have to keep it in mind for next year then. What do you think of it so far? Old world traditions I mean? It's probably not as exciting as yours is...but I think the basic principle and idea is still the same." Thankful for everything and whatnot.

Exciting is an interesting choice of words, she can't help but think.

"Somethin' I should be seeing past the food?"
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

Helios hums a little to himself thinking.

"The company you share it with usually makes a difference. Luceti is a bit different, I'd imagine, since sharing it with, well, the assortment of people and the like here. Like a very large extended family." He chuckles a little after saying that.

What.

"You call these guys family?"
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

"Ah w-well in a sense." He shifts in place from where he's standing eyeing the people in the room once more.

"We've been through so much together. A-And really family takes care of one another, don't they? Just because we don't share the same blood and the like doesn't mean it can't be possible. B-but that's just how I see it, really." Not to mention the Luceti Valley experiment solidified some things in terms of "family" and what exactly it applies to. It's strange really to consider people you've only known to be family. But, well, when your family back home consisted of only an abusive brother...can you really blame Helios for even considering it?

"Don't see it." She said bluntly, flatly. Erin, Harth. Loo wasn't family, only those two could be. No one else could be, because that's just how things fell into place. However, despite that, there isn't a bite to it, she's just trying to judge the guy.

"But. If that's how the bonds work for you."
