so pile your boots up in the corner -- hang your jacket from the door

Who: anyone invited to house seven's thanksgivingstravaganza -- as well as anyone walking by who might be curious about all the brouhaha.
What: giving thanks!
When: forward dated to november 24th due to predicted holiday hiatuses!
Where: house seven!
Summary: friends, food, fondness. family. festivities.
Rating: g for goin' up.

House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

Mix! Mingle! Make merry!

(ooc; threadjack into oblivion and don't forget to add your character to the entry tags! have fun! note that this is forward-dated. i'll be tagging around myself later this evening. )

Jack Sparrow is proud indeed to see that turkey in its final glory. The hunting of it had been an ordeal, to say the least, and now he is very happy with a cup of spiced wine, trying to stay out of the way of busy hostess-types and enemies alike while simultaneously making as much merry as possible.

Cranberry sauce is a new thing for Jack: just the right mix of tart and sweet and orange peel and mmmmm. He might be hoarding it, just a bit. Make sure you say please if you want it passed.

Geez - the spread was even more incredible and mouthwatering than he had envisioned. He almost felt a tinge guilty while piling such wonderful things onto his plate, as if he were sneaking into some lavish cocktail party and swiping a few shrimp before making his way out, back to where he belonged; but then again, he remembered Buffy extending a casual invite in her recording, so it seemed it didn’t quite matter that he wasn’t a very close friend indulging in this meticulously prepared feast.

Finding a place at the table where there was room, the Bronxite set down his plate and unzipped his hoodie, hanging it up on the back of his chair. He let out a light sigh as he sank into his seat, looking about the place and at his company, this curious mix of men and women, strangers and new friends. There was an empty chair... it was where Doc maybe would have sat, had he been here.

Hey Mac baby, better watch what you eat or y'won't be Little Mac no more, hahaha!

Mac could almost hear the man's laughter floating in the air... and then realized it was someone else at the table chuckling easily. He looked back at his plate, half-absently poking at a bean.

[Well, this was...all sorts of odd.

Giles was happy. It was a distressingly uncommon feeling. He was determined to enjoy it. And one very, very important thing to be happy about was that he had made it to Thanksgiving without something going horrifically wrong and, most importantly, he wasn't ruining Buffy's fun by believing he was another person and plotting to murder Willow and Xander. Riding high from the relative success of the New Feather party, he was actually look forward to this.

...despite the fact that, in a way, this was something like his idea of hell. Thanksgiving seemed to contain people he didn't know, people he didn't know very well, and people he deeply disliked and had last seen while begging for a pirate name. It was different at the New Feather parties, he wasn't expected to know anyone there and could usually get by just on the questions he was capable of answering. Here? There was a mutual connection in Buffy, and he knew that plenty of these people were hardly new to the village. It was something of a relief that Buffy had extended an invite to Ginia as well, loathe as Giles was to admit it, and he had passed said invitation along at a late hour.

Still. This probably left Giles as something of the odd person out at least at the start of things. And it will probably show, much as he tries to hide it. Yes, he is happy to be here. In his long and painful quest to somehow make things better with Buffy, this is an important step. This doesn't change the fact that he also doesn't have much of an idea about what to do besides grab some food, listen to the small talk, and try to stay out of the way.]

Kennedy is doing a pretty good job keeping his head above water, all things considered. A lot of people and noise will mean he's pretty quiet, and he's squinting at faces to see if he remembers anything more. When he has nothing else to do, he'll try keeping things stocked, having been drafted to help cook in the first place. His gaze will stray most to people who claim to be close friends, or those he has had memorable experiences with as a lieutenant. Vague snatches of memory have been popping up, out of context, and he's waiting to see if more comes back to him.

It was a nice knowing there were others in the village who could throw a big Thanksgiving dinner. The New Feather party had been a success and Ginia was just getting over her turkey coma, but delicious food and invitations were not things to be passed on, even if said invitations had come a little late.

Truthfully, Ginia felt a tiny bit of trepidation. Herself had a child had been a mouth, curious little thing as kids were prone to being. As an adult, most of her conversations with Buffy really weren't that much better, and now that she was dating the ex-watcher and their last conversation had been... well. However, she did want to make things right between them somehow-possibly-down-the-long-road and turning down such a nice invitation would have been rude. Besides, she had a hunch Giles needed some company.

So Ginia arrives, a bit late and into the party, but she shows up, and settles into seeing who else is here, and admiring and enjoying the food. All the cooking? A-plus job.

Awkward does not even begin to describe how Cordelia felt as she watched the people at Buffy's Thanksgiving chatter away. It made her realise how new she was. And that had her keeping to herself. She didn't know which way or where exactly to dive in. She'd heard a few voices that felt familiar to her but couldn't quite pick out the faces - one of the downfalls of using the voice function of the journals.

She stood at the side of the room, immersed in looking at the things that made this house a part of Buffy. The layout of it was different to the apartment she lived in with Angel. It was nice. Just because she felt like a fish out of water at the Thanksgiving meal didn't mean she was going to keep her nose out of Buffy's life.

Well, here we are. Melaka Fray actually wouldn't miss this for anything. Sure she's hesitant about how all these past-people celebrate, but the Day of Thanks is a big deal back in Haddyn. Which is why when she shows up she's actually got little wrapped present boxes in the pockets of her big coat and a smile on her face. Sure, she's known for being stoic, but she's going be living it up today.

It is remarkable how skilled Admiral Norrington has become at making himself seem quite entirely uninteresting - and how many steps along that path he took merely by casting off the large wide hat and the gold-trimmed coat. Quiet yet severe, broad-shouldered and scornful, his body language is closed and barred. He repels where he should otherwise invite. It would, after all, be in the spirit of the occasion.

And every now and then, when anyone seems about to try to strike up conversation as they walk on by him, he nibbles daintily on one of the tiny portions that he had collected and arranged upon a single plate - teaspoon sized samples of each and every food-item on offer at this gathering. He is not proceeding through them at all rapidly.

He doesn't do holidays. This isn't something new. A bunch of people getting together to stuff themselves and get on each other's nerves and be sappy about how thankful they are for life, friends, et cetera? Yeah, not his thing. So he's just stopping by. Maybe he'll grab a piece of pie. It's his favorite, so he might as well seize the day and whatever.

But that's it, seriously. He will not be roped in by some cheesy emotional holiday about being with the people you care about most.

...Yeah. Not his thing.

There's a lot of hustle and bustle at this casual party, more people moving around house 7 than Raine would have expected. A very nice gathering, even though part of her can't help but feel somewhat out of place. She will give a small smile and conversation to anyone who approaches, though she may end up doing a lot of observing, unless the hostess is in need of any assistance.

Still, there's a lot to complement on, and she even - unasked, most likely - brought along an assortment of cookies for the occasion. Are they edible? With certain guidance she did keep to a sane matter of recipes at least -- at the most, she only got creative with the cookie cutters, involving various geometric shapes and sizes. They're quite harmless and hopefully somewhat tasty otherwise -- some are ordinary chocolate chip, sugar, and of course the majority being lemon. A carefully planned assortment.

There were so many people crowded into one tiny little house that it took Raven by surprise. Social gatherings like this were not his usual forté, he had only decided to come along because Buffy had requested it.

You can expect to find him keeping to himself in a corner.

Albert arrives quietly with his housemates, taking in the decor of the house before moving on to see the colorful dinner spread that was apparently the most notable aspect of this Thanksgiving holiday. It's certainly a welcome change from cooking for the household on a regular basis.

He may also look for any drinks that may have been set out for the guests, so he can partake before the actual meal. And perhaps after, since he was not one for desserts.

Derek makes his way into the gathering after several other folks have already arrived, and uses the general milling about to disguise his own entrance. He'll make a note of where Buffy, Raine, and Jack are located and then will settle in on a couch to watch for a little while. It's interesting, all thse familair, but not people. It almost feels like home, except for the fact that he doesn't remember this 'home' except in bits and flashes.

Still, he feels almost unnervingly at home.

After a while, he'll find himself something to drink if someone doesn't bring him one first.

If Caesar didn't want to do something, he would just say no, but there are some invitations that simply cannot be turned down. That would explain why Caesar actually joined his housemates at this particular event, an event where he really couldn't feel more out of place. Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, he doesn't tend to stray too far from his brother for most of the night (which isn't to say that he's attached to him—he just prefers to keep him within sight), except for when he eventually decides to step outside for a little while. It's a nice party and all, but there are too many people for him to feel comfortable with, especially people he doesn't know particularly well. Fresh air is definitely a good thing.

He'll go back inside eventually, even if he still won't do very much socializing. He's pretty sure he'll never not feel out of place at things like this, but he'll stick it out until his brother is ready to leave.

Do not mind the derpy headmaster who makes his way to the party somewhat fashionable late. He has a plate of frosted cookies...in the shape of turkeys in his hands. Yes, cookies, you can never have too many of those. Helios figures at least he can do for stopping by. Not one to really intrude in on things like this but, well, tis the season for being thankful and he should probably show some thanks for what Buffy did for him as a child. He'll wait for her so he can say so and then take his leave.

In the meantime? He'll be looking around the room at the lovely decor and possible underlying barrier spell that's entirely invisible to everyone else in the room. What? His work is never done! And besides he told Buffy he would strengthen it when he got better. Still if he bumps into you in his gazing he will apologize profusely.

Jilly was never much of one for family. But friends... friends were an entirely different matter. She'd fallen in to helping Buffy prepare for the day with gusto, teetering precariously on step-stools to hang decorations, fighting her own distractions in order to avoid ruining carefully timed recipes, and setting out rather prettily-made-up hor dourves trays for those who arrived early.

Before and after the meal, Jilly never really settled in one spot. She fluttered from person to person, paint-specked and smiling and determined to help make this a wonderful holiday...both for Buffy and for all the guests who had decided to join them for the day.
