so pile your boots up in the corner -- hang your jacket from the door

Who: anyone invited to house seven's thanksgivingstravaganza -- as well as anyone walking by who might be curious about all the brouhaha.
What: giving thanks!
When: forward dated to november 24th due to predicted holiday hiatuses!
Where: house seven!
Summary: friends, food, fondness. family. festivities.
Rating: g for goin' up.

House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

Mix! Mingle! Make merry!

(ooc; threadjack into oblivion and don't forget to add your character to the entry tags! have fun! note that this is forward-dated. i'll be tagging around myself later this evening. )

I think if there was anyone who should sell the recipe, it should be Buffy. But it would be, up until the point everyone has it and there's no one else to sell it too. Oh well, I'm sure I could retire on my earnings.

Ginia stops for a moment, trying to figure out how to respond. The amount of people who knew she was dating Giles could be counted on one hand with fingers left over. They weren't deliberately keeping it a secret, but it was the sort of thing that was easier kept calm and quiet, especially with how transient the world could be.

Telling someone she'd just met without the benefit of the journal as a barrier? And someone who was from the same world as Buffy and Giles? Maybe just a little nervewracking in its own odd way.

But if there was one thing that Ginia was solid on, it was the fact she was not embarrassed or ashamed of dating Giles in any way. Yes, he was a much older man and an age gap of twenty years (much larger if the years were properly aligned) was something that would make most people balk. But hell, she loved him, he loved her back, and wasn't that all that really mattered?

Ginia makes her decision, smiles and nods.

Yes. He's my boyfriend.

Consider those eyebrows still raised - but in surprise. And she couldn't quite believe it. Giles had managed to catch a woman who probably wasn't as boring as him.

"Good for you," she smiled. Her own reaction surprised her somewhat. But, at least another Sunnydaler was happy, even if it was Giles. She didn't have anything against him. She just didn't know him as well as she knew the other Scoobies - and she barely knew them at all.

"How long have you two been ... dating?"

Boring was really all in the eye of the beholder. Sure, he still had that air of British stuffiness about him, but anyone who had had his life and his ability to get into trouble? Hardly boring. Besides, she was just as much as a bookworm as he was. Like knowing like and all that.

Over a month now. Month and a few odd weeks. We met in July, he made a good impression.

"I bet," she grinned. She wondered about what moves Giles had up his librarian sleeves. "So, you know about Sunnydale? All the things that we used to get up to?"
shadedsunlight: (I'm proud of you)

All the usual moves that could be expected from a man like him; lots of conversations over tea, playing some guitar, showing off his linguistic skills, being a good cook, a decent dancer, a badass fighter, and being entirely charming and handsome while stammering and stuttering through conversations. And the accent, can't forget the accent.

Vampires, Slayer, demons, saving the world, I've gotten the crash course, though it doesn't come up all that often. Mostly because Giles couldn't remember three years of it and her conversations with Buffy have been civil with a side of awkwardness. Never seems to be a good time to ask about things. Sounds like an interesting place though.

All wrapped up in one package known as Rupert Giles. Ginia was lucky to catch him.

"Interesting if you don't mind being demon food every day." Cordelia was the demon bait and the damsel in distress, the latter a role she had hopefully grown out of by now. The former was something she couldn't move away from. Everyone was demon bait, even if they were a demon themselves. "Can't really say life was boring, but it didn't make it any fun if you know what I mean."

She sighed. "Where are you from?"

I'm from Earth, one variation of it. No demons or magic around, no monsters either. Just humans causing trouble for humans. Ginia frowns slightly as she thinks on her world, how everything about it simply was due to the actions and mistakes of fellow humans. There was no one to blame for the state of things but humanity itself. A much too sobering thought on such a happy day and Ginia pushes a smile back on.

I've always found it remarkable how many versions of Earth there seems to be.

"I'm still getting used to it. The versions. The Sunnydale version is one I'm still trying to stomach."

She wondered what it would be like to be from a place where the only one to blame was yourself. Sunnydale and L.A. had that, of course, but it was so much easier to pass the blame onto the creatures of the shadows.

"Your home sounds nice," she said, sincerely. Saying Earth was weird, even with the knowledge that people didn't come from the same L.A. she hailed from. "Sounds normal. Kind of don't know what that means anymore," she gave a small smile.

Kinda blows your mind when you first hear about it. Giles was the one who gave me the introduction, we compared notes about our respective worlds over lunch. She can't help the small smile at that memory. It'd been a good first day, good conversation, lunch, a solid foundation for a relationship she never would have imagined.

That's only because I'm leaving out all the gritty details. It gets complicated. And I'm not sure what anyone knows is normal. I guess normal is whatever you have around you. This place isn't normal no matter how you look at it, but experiments, drafts, and oddities are all part of the norm.

"Try living it," Cordelia sighs. As much as she longed for the normal life - which was visionless - she knew she'd never give it up for anything. She liked her kind of normal; if she didn't have her world, she wouldn't have the family she has with the Angel Investigations team.

She didn't want to get used to the 'norm' here, though. She'd like that to stay as far away and strange to her as possible.

She cocks an eyebrow. "Your world? Is it anything like Sunnydale?"

My world is- She pauses as she thinks back on the comparisons. plain in comparison to other worlds. Nothing supernatural, no demons, vampires, magic, monsters, nothing of the sort. It's quite different in other way, changes in world history. It seems events in my world went differently than most other versions of Earth.

It's made for some fascinating reading at the very least. She's poured over all the history books on US history she could find, marveled over all the changes and the idea of the country not so fractured as it was in her world. It didn't mean things were perfect in other worlds, but it made things interesting to learn about.
