so pile your boots up in the corner -- hang your jacket from the door

Who: anyone invited to house seven's thanksgivingstravaganza -- as well as anyone walking by who might be curious about all the brouhaha.
What: giving thanks!
When: forward dated to november 24th due to predicted holiday hiatuses!
Where: house seven!
Summary: friends, food, fondness. family. festivities.
Rating: g for goin' up.

House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

Mix! Mingle! Make merry!

(ooc; threadjack into oblivion and don't forget to add your character to the entry tags! have fun! note that this is forward-dated. i'll be tagging around myself later this evening. )

"Ah. N-No, not really." It was the truth and in someway it hurt to admit it. No one in the magicking community wanted to send their son or daughter to a school run by the man who had killed his own soul mate. And no one wanted to learn magic from the man teaching humans about them.

"Just typical human students. A-and the occasional oddity at times. Well, it's a good distribution of humans and others." Others being your standard everyday mythology.

"So it stresses diversity in the student body, then. Interesting. Do you instruct any pirates?"
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-01 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes you could say that. But everyone is treated much the same regardless of, of ethnicity or um origins." Helios pauses thinking.

"Not to my knowledge. I do have a few students that knew some pirates and Davy Jones. He, um, offers up his services at times." He is being completely serious as he says this like it's no big deal talking to Davy Jones, nope.
all7seas: (you are bizarre and confusing)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Davy Jones?! You're in league with DAVY JONES?"

WHAT.
folklorist: (Er. Um. Don't kill me please)

If Helios knew how to keysmash he would be right now.

"N-no! I-I mean. He's not...he's not bad in my world. He's a good friend. Well acquaintance would be, be a better term. But g-given the nature of his legends and myths I-I can see how it would warrant such a reaction. But really it's n-nothing bad. Th-though that's not the c-case for every world." Oh geez maybe he should stick to not telling about his seafaring exploits from now on.
all7seas: (a sailing lesson)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"It's Davy Flopping Jones, of course it's bad! What tale has he sold YOU, hmm? Old tentacle-faced geezer! Bugger. Davy Jones." He'll just keep mumbling on in this manner, glaring at Helios over the rim of his mug.
folklorist: (Well this is certainly a mess)

Helios will wince slightly at Jack's words.

"A-a few. I know he's been a-around the Bermuda Triangle at t-times. But mostly just normal tales of-of the open seas. I-I'm sure it's not the c-case for you though. M-My apologies for bringing him up. I-I should have realized..." given how you're acting, yes, that generalized observation goes very much noticed. He also looks slightly apologetic and a bit embarrassed.

"At an-any rate. I-I only spoke to him a few times. I-I know Poseidon is a better contact and mermaids...sirens too. And then there's the Atlantians..." Best to change the subject and what better way than Helios babbling to himself.
all7seas: (ewwww)

"Impossible for you to realize my rather lengthy and storied history with one Captain Davy Jones of the Flying Dutchman." Reluctantly, Jack had to give Helios that. "Mermaids, now. I suppose you've dated two or three of those watery wonders."

Jack had wooed Marina, of course. She still wasn't happy with him.
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-02 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. N-No never, um, d-dated. I-I do talk with them from time to time. Amazing their knowledge of the seas." Sorry but the only woman he's ever dated was a dryad. Not that, that's any better. Still Helios shifts his attention darting about the room before it rests back on Jack.
all7seas: (this is my lying face)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-02 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Courting a maid of the sea is a complicated matter. First off? It's complicated by the fact that likely, deep down inside, she wants to strip the flesh from your bones. And they always expect you to pay for dinner, mermaids. Aaaand drinks. And dessert. And tea the next morning."
folklorist: (I don't honestly know)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-02 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah r-really? I-I don't know. Perhaps you just caught her at a bad time? I do have to wonder if the tides and moon affect them...similarly like werewolves." He is a bit intrigued though. Mermaid mannerisms hm.

"Though most worlds h-have rather a-aggressive type mythological beings apparently." It makes him frown as he regards his plate. "The mermaids I've spoken to have all been rather peaceful actually. Quite curios as to why a human would speak to them given the myths and legends about them."
all7seas: (hmmmm....)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-02 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"The mermaids in your world possibly manufactured those myths and legends in order to be left right alone, then? Interesting. Suppose I've heard worse excuses not to take a man out for a drink."
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-02 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Something like that, yes. Though it was most likely miscommunication and a lost in translation at some point that really gave the myths and legends their full meanings and shaped them into what they are today." Helios chuckles.

"But I suppose there are worse excuses. N-Not that I would have much knowledge on the, ah, m-matter." Dating he doesn't do it much or at all actually.
all7seas: (oooooor fish nature)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Why's that? Do you not go a-courting, sir? You should, it's rather fun as long as they're not going to eat you. Anyone here you might fancy?"
folklorist: (This is a thoughtful pose)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-03 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. N-Not recently, no." Might have to do with the ability to feel love and any sort of romantic attachment to be completely gone but hey, details. Helios shifts some more.

"No. I-I mean I haven't really gave it much thought."
all7seas: (I like you)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-03 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm with you, mate. Overthinking it just overcomplicates it. And who wants things to fester within that horrid realm, Overcomplication? The best option, clearly, is to not think on it at all."
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-03 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"T-true. Overthinking tends to, um, cause lots of doubts when all is said and done. But I suppose some people can't h-help themselves regardless. But then a-again when it comes to something like, like relationships thinking on them m-might not be so bad." Says the man who hasn't been in one for around four years now.
all7seas: (salute to the fallen)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Jack grunted a kind of neutral almost-assent before taking a sip from his glass. "No use hashing over all that here, I suppose. Help yourself to some Evil Turkey, Helios! Enjoy!"
folklorist: (Sneaky: I do like the sound of that)

[personal profile] folklorist 2011-12-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Evil turkey." He looks down at the plate holding said turkey. There is a small smirk on his face regardless.

"I never realized we had turkeys here actually. But it's a good thing otherwise we wouldn't have had a chance for all this. I hope it wasn't too much trouble to catch. I hear they can be quite mean, wild turkey, but ah thank you." He will be sure to do so. All that hard work shouldn't go to waste after all and even if he has his reserves about eating at all he might pick at things here and there throughout the night.
all7seas: (you're believing this right?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-12-04 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah, no trouble at all!" So much trouble. "And you're welcome, of course. Cheers and all!"
