so pile your boots up in the corner -- hang your jacket from the door

Who: anyone invited to house seven's thanksgivingstravaganza -- as well as anyone walking by who might be curious about all the brouhaha.
What: giving thanks!
When: forward dated to november 24th due to predicted holiday hiatuses!
Where: house seven!
Summary: friends, food, fondness. family. festivities.
Rating: g for goin' up.

House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

Mix! Mingle! Make merry!

(ooc; threadjack into oblivion and don't forget to add your character to the entry tags! have fun! note that this is forward-dated. i'll be tagging around myself later this evening. )

Having the Sunnydale women in his life was possibly a good way to avoid social suicide. Cordelia remembered the conversation they had about heroes when she first arrived. Jack never did picture himself as one.

"Jack it is," she grinned. "I'm honoured to have this priviledge. We should celebrate that over some turkey, don't you think?"

"I shall serve you with the least-incriminating bit of turkey possible, lass!"

If it HAD been flirting, hopefully Buffy would never, ever find out.

It's like watching a trainwreck. Cordelia couldn't look away despite how disastrous - and hilarious - it was.

And when he was finished, she gave him a smile - a bit forced, maybe, because that display of ... whatever that was was completely new to her. Whatever had crossed his mind to make him react like that was far beyond her reach. Whenever someone had said something that implied sexual things, they brushed it off. Of course, she was thinking of Angel and his recent accidental slip of the tongue.

It was true. She'd never met anyone like Jack before.

"You're such a dumbass," said with affection. "No wonder Buffy likes you."

Flirting? What flirting? She should ease his pain, shouldn't she? "I think I'll just take the wing or whatever."
all7seas: (any way you slice it)

my fail is all over this thread, writ large

Loves, he almost corrected her, but didn't. But there was a certain measure of relief that she was taking what Jack saw as his inappropriate turkey talk fairly well. He had told Buffy he wouldn't flirt anymore.

That was going to be nearly impossible for Jack Sparrow, for whom flirting came like breathing.

"Very good, mistress! I shall wing you!"
quip: (you looked really hot in those speedos)

it's beautiful ;____;

Buffy could kick his ass to his timezone and back. Don't get on her bad side, Jack.

Cordelia waited for another massive explosion from him, but it never came. Maybe it was just the stating of body parts with persons who are not blonde and in possession of Slayer abilites that made him grab for the nearest lifeboat.

She teased, "Winging is safe, right?"
all7seas: (how'll you be spending it?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-22 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Erm.....only in the sense of I shall serve a turkey wing to you, and not I shall shoot you in the arm."

Bugger. He hadn't thought of that.

"Just wait here a moment and I shall deliver it."
quip: (you have so much to learn)

[personal profile] quip 2011-11-22 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I'll pass on the shooting," she gave a bit of a wince.

"Thanks. You want a drink? I could probably fetch those while you ... do your thing." Don't let her near the turkey. Cordelia plus food - unless it is to be consumed - is a dangerous combo.
all7seas: (no denying a pirate)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-22 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Do I want a drink? Is Norrington wearing overstarched undergarments? Of COURSE, dearest! Make it a double, hmm? I'll have you fed up in a trice."

He hurried away to the table to make good on that promise.
quip: (i just want to go home)

[personal profile] quip 2011-11-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
She couldn't help but laugh.

And so did she, except in another direction to grab a few drinks. She managed to find another tumbler for Jack, filling it with something good, and made her way back near the table.
all7seas: (find the lady)

"I gave you extra stuffing," Jack pointed out when he reached her, "for which you may thank me later."
quip: (you're welcome)

[personal profile] quip 2011-11-22 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You're too kind. She grinned. "Oh yeah? With my detectifying skills?"
all7seas: (you're believing this right?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nonsense! I've never given you that much credit, now have I?"

Cheeky! So cheeky!

You're so mean, Jack Sparrow. "I did solve one thing on my first day. That's impressive, right?"
all7seas: (each left his mark on the other)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-22 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eh? What's this? You solved something? Out with it, woman--what was solved?"
quip: (did someone find out you're a big nerd?)

[personal profile] quip 2011-11-22 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"What made this place not boring! For you, anyway. Which involved a lot of drinking and sailing, though my memory could be a bit fuzzy with the appearance of a turkey."
all7seas: (wickedly)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-22 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"That was an easy mystery, wasn't it! Doesn't count! You've got to go out and solve a murder or something, just like the great John Watson and his partner what's-his-name."

Jack himself had solved a murder after a fashion, back in Shipwreck Cove. But that was many years ago, now.
quip: (you'll fight hell beasts)

[personal profile] quip 2011-11-24 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
"There's no impressing you, is there?" she laughed. She honestly thought her solving her first mini-mystery was impressive. Especially since it was on her first day!

She nodded, crossing her arms against her chest, standing up straighter. "Fine, I accept your challenge. Prepare to be blown away by Madam Detective's awesome -" a lot of emphasis there "- detective skills. And when I do solve something really impressive, you can ..." she paused, frowning. What could they wager?

"You can buy me all the McCoys I want. For a week."
all7seas: (our friends the cuttlefish)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-11-24 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Deal." Cordelia looked like enough of a lightweight to make this a favorable wager. "Impress me, and it's yours."
