House Seven was decked out in soft oranges and browns. Gentle reds and yellows. The table was shoved up against a wall and dish upon dish of delicious Thanksgiving dinner-bits adorned it. Plates to one side, a pile of cutlery. Feel free to line up and pile your arms high with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, carrots and green beans, cranberry sauce, sinful gravy. Stuffing. Steamed broccoli. The amount of food would almost be laughable had the guest list not been so long. Chatter abounded.

It was, by all accounts, a fairly casual gathering. No ceremony (Buffy, by this point, was all ceremony'd out after some fiercely dedicated meal-prepping) to stand on and no customs to keep. Just food and friendship. The only thing customary about Buffy Summers would be her delighted, enchanted grin throughout the evening. Very little pleased her more than a social event that was going well.

She can't help but smile a bit more at his surprise; there's some sense of fondness and warmth in her tone. "He doesn't make the wine; just has an appreciation for it. But yes, he's been cultivating those flowers for years now."

"I see." Jack took a sip of rum. "I never knew Albert had quite so many...angles. Does he ever present you with a beautiful bouquet?"

"Well, it is hardly as if you two know each other that well." Probably mostly of each other, and not very much at that, from her perspective. "And no, he hasn't."

"Pity. Whyever not?" And Jack Sparrow decided he would have to mention that to Albert at some point.

A slight shrug. "His flowers are for growing, not for gathering."

It was the only answer she really had to that.

And Jack had no response to that--just a slight scoffing sound and a meaningful look toward the man standing across the room. "Perhaps, in the spring, someone should pillage that lovely garden and distribute the blooms among wenches who truly deserve them."

"... That's not necessary, and you know it."

"No, not a bit necessary, milady. But quite a bit fun." And mischievous. And a lark.

"You'll do no such thing to his garden."

"Hmmmm? No. NO! 'Course not. I'd never consider it. Ever."

"Do I have your word on that, Captain?" She crosses her arms, giving him a significant look.

"My word as a gentleman, Mistress!"

Which means no, basically.

"I mean it. You'll leave those flowers alone."

The teacher voice.

Ohhhh the teacher voice. Jack would find it rather sexy if Raine didn't suddenly seem a bit......scary.

Another false promise, still: "I realize that you mean it, mistress. That you very, very, very strongly mean it."

"Then I'm glad we have an understanding. I wouldn't find it seemly to have to punish you over relocating some flowers."

"Punish?"

Whoa.

"But what if the flowers were relocated to your bedroom?"

"Indeed." A small vague smile at that. Had her brother been in Luceti, Jack likely would have heard more taunting about it from the younger Sage sibling.

"The flowers stay in the garden. Besides, there is a shop for that."

"As you demand, o professorial one."

Those flowers are doomed.

"Honestly, I don't know why you're making such a big deal about it."

Then Jack had better be prepared for punishment.

"And I don't see why he's not."

He's always prepared for punishment. He's Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Why are you so preoccupied with his flowers? It's his garden; it's his business on how to tend to them."

"Of course it is, sweetheart. And my preoccupation is over and done with." Lies.

"... Good."

The thought comes to mind that she should likely warn the strategist, anyway, but that's filed away for now. "I'm sure that you have more important things to be concerned with, besides."

"Oh, aye---far much more importanter things than THAT, sweetness. I won't concern myself with it at all."

A warning might help, if she remembers come spring. Jack is still a bit miffed that Raine's so-called love interest doesn't present her with magnificent bouquets.

She finds herself shaking her head a little at the entire exchange. Knowing, yes, what implications were there, and weren't there. It's not as if anything had been explicitly said, on her end.

"I'm sure more interesting things must be going on with you."
