New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[Ginis laughs as the light dances around her, following its moves up to the sky. She beams at Helios.]

Happy new year, Helios! This is amazing!

"What are you doing here?"

Caroline was happy that she and her mother had found a way to get along here in Luceti, to cohabitate without wanting to rip each other's heads off, but she didn't expect to run into her at a party of all things. Her mother so wasn't the partying type. She probably wasn't here for the enjoyment-- Ah. That must be it.

She crossed her arms. "You're working, aren't you?"

[Mai can appreciate sarcasm.]

I'm flattered that I look so approachable.

"Not at all."

He smiles. Plenty of pirates, an increasing number of - ugh - Naval personnel, and a few citizens who were neither but lived by the waves none the less. And then the smile fades till it is slight. All hemmed in. It is better here than when he first arrived - no ocean then, only desert - but still, what they have could hardly be called a sea. Oceans aren't supposed to have boundaries - in his world, one takes to the waters to be free - and the barriers out there are obscene.

What they have in Luceti is a mockery.

But it is better than nothing.

"Sailor." Pirate. "It's my life."

"Ginia!" In a bright, cheery, and festive mood, Caroline gives the other girl a hug when she comes up to her. Stepping back, she surveys the outfit. "I love that dress. You look stunning. I'm sure the boyfriend agrees."

[ as insecure as caroline is capable of being, if there's one thing she's confident in, it's her appearance. she's pretty, and she knows it, even if she's doubted her beauty's "affect" on people in the past; that horribly shallow girl she was before matt and the set of fangs that came with the lemons life gave her. ]

Hey! [ ami gets a bright smile out of the girl. ] Happy New Year! Excited for the fireworks?

"I'm not--"

The accent should've tipped her off, but her attention was stolen by the flames in a jar. There didn't appear to be anything sustaining them and really, that should've tipped her off, as well, but actually enjoying the night's festivities for once and attempting to be carefree means she's put her paranoia aside. Something that might be a stupid move on her part, but she's tired of being on high alert all the time. It was a party. Time to relax.

"How is it doing that?"

[Ah, Kotomi-chan's enjoying the festivities too! ... Sort of. This doesn't really seem like the best time for reading, so he'll just have to encourage her to have fun with him in bed!]

Yo! This time it's... Ventus-san, right? [This means he'll get a chance to re-do their dignity-destroying first meeting!]

[ the girl falls a few yards away from caroline, but the blonde is there in an instant, cheating by way of vampire speed. she's kneeling on the ground and holding out a hand. ] Hey, are you okay? That looked like it hurt.

[Ami gives a quick nod, a bit more enthusiastic than she's often seen to be.]

They light up everything beautifully. And sharing it with everyone is like a dream.

The hug is happily returned, Ginia also surveying the other's outfit with an approving eye when they draw back. "Thank you! The little black dress, a classic. Believe me, the first time saw it, Giles was speechless for ten seconds. I'm shooting for fifteen next time. And look at you! Love the outfit, very nice pattern and boots! Very chic.

Enjoying yourself?"

[There's a light wave at the piano and stage.] I have to do my part, right? Besides, maybe I like showing off a bit.

[Her expression softens and she steps in to kiss his cheek, hand moving to rest on his chest.]

I'm glad you're here. Thank you.

[Especially considering how he's been avoiding people.]

"It was a longer lasting effect actually, since the 27th of November. Caused by a very unfortunate kidnapping by the Malnosso." there's a slight souring of her expression, but that was the past, she decides to keep quite about the voice then, even the voice now, being entirely artificial. Best to keep the illusion up while she can.

"But that's all in the past. Can I get you something?"

I know, right? It's just so... normal for this place, you know?

"Take up the skirt an inch or two and make it twenty," Caroline suggests, always happy to play the part of the schemer in other's affairs, especially romantic ones.

"I'm having a blast. I love parties and fireworks. About time this place did something normal for a change. I'll take celebrations like these over battles and the craziness that happens here any day."

[A lot of people might say to just enjoy it, but Ami's never had an easy time letting herself go like that.]

I think that's why we appreciate moments like these. Since it isn't from the Malnosso this time, I feel more comfortable with it, too.

While she likes to keep romantic affairs private, Ginia can appreciate a good and well-intentioned suggestion. "Duly noted. I'll take the dress to Shiki sometime," Ginia replies with a small chuckle, already able to image Giles' expression. Or lackthereof as he hides his face and cleans his glasses.

"I agree. The parties and everything help round things out. Though I'm working with Rise to throw together a tropical party for the New Feather party. But this, right Noe?" she stops to look around at everything and everyone. "This is a good way to round out one year and ring in a new one."

He found himself wondering why their handlers kept on bringing in people whose existances were the complete antithesis of what was offered in Luceti.

If his friends found out later, they'd laugh. He had to ask, nonetheless.

"I need your thoughts, as a seafarer yourself. You're probably used to having free horizons to sail toward and all--how do you not go crazy in this place?"

He wouldn't press further, even to admit his astonishment at such a long lasting effect--and a burning desire to ask about the kidnapping. It was something he had only heard about through the backlogs, and wasn't widely discussed. Standing on the sidelines for a while made it easy to figure out which topics not to broach upon.

"A bourbon, please. On the ro--no. Straight. Who woulda thought that the pretty miss Ginia would be working in a place like this?"

[Little Link decided he was going to grab the biggest tub he could find and fill it with popcorn. So, yes, he's going to be hanging around the area near House 49 with a big-ass tub of popcorn, glancing up in wonder at the fireworks occasionally. He's more than willing to share!]

Ginia laughs softly as she grabs the bourbon and a glass, smoothly pouring his drink and setting it in front of him.

"Don't be so surprised, Mr. Lupin. Cloud Nine is my establishment and there isn't a role here I don't do."

She smiles charmingly and sets his drink on a coaster.

Well, I can't say "glad to be back" or anything like that, but it's nice knowing someone missed me being around here.

[Oh hey thar. Yeager heads over to greet Raven, smiling as usual and looking cheerfully unaffected by the cold. The fact that he's been sipping cocktails for a little while now might be helping with that.]
