Out with the old....

Who: Everyone
What: New Year's.
When: Dec. 31st, New Year's Eve, to Jan 1st, New Year's Day.
Where: Everywhere
Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.
Rating: We'll see...

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

At some point, after deciding that a party and fireworks were just what was in store for all of them, Hermione made her way around to the fountain. One person in particular caught her eye and for a moment, she paused where she stood. She was almost certain she recognized the girl from the journal cameras, and since she really did want to meet Draco's girlfriend, she approached. She was wearing a long coat, warm pants, a hat, and a pair of gloves. Hermione Granger didn't mess around with the weather. Not after the previous year. In her hands, she held a jar of fire, her infamous bluebell flames, and she was hoping to use it as a good conversation starter.

"You look a little cold," she commented, stopping close to the other blonde. Offering a small mile, she held out the jar just enough to offer it to Caroline without coming off as though she were pushing it on the girl.

"I'm not--"

The accent should've tipped her off, but her attention was stolen by the flames in a jar. There didn't appear to be anything sustaining them and really, that should've tipped her off, as well, but actually enjoying the night's festivities for once and attempting to be carefree means she's put her paranoia aside. Something that might be a stupid move on her part, but she's tired of being on high alert all the time. It was a party. Time to relax.

"How is it doing that?"

Eventually, Hermione would tell Caroline who she was, but for now she wanted to get to talking a little bit before introductions happened. It might help to show the girl that she was friendly before she realized who she was.

"It's a fairly simple spell." For Hermione Granger, few spells were that complex. "I learned it in first year and it's quite useful for warming up in the cold courtyard without having to worry about your blankets or robes catching fire."

"Oh, you're a witch?"

If people were usually put off by this knowledge, Caroline doesn't appear to be one of them. It only increases her curiosity, being someone who is currently dating a wizard and has a witch best friend, back home.

"Yes, and proud of it."

Hermione smiled, glad at least that Caroline didn't seem to be afraid of her abilities. Some people here in Luceti weren't too keen on it, or hadn't been last time she'd been here. Well, now seemed to be as good a time as any to let Caroline know who she was.

"I'm Hermione Granger. It's good to finally meet you in person."

And really, she was being sincere. She'd hoped to meet Caroline with Draco at some point, but maybe it was better this way, on an even playing field, so to speak.

"Oh!" Caroline jumped and pointed, nevermind if the gesture was rude or not. She'd been wondering what Hermione looked like for some time now and was planning on finding out for herself. Better that the girl Draco spoke so highly of introduced herself first to his rather neurotic girlfriend who was prone to seeing things that weren't there was far as her boyfriends were concerned. At least Draco and Hermione didn't have a previous relationship for her to be jealous of like Matt and Elena had.

"You're her! Hi. I'm-- You know who I am, but whatever," she held out a hand, "I'm Caroline Forbes."

The relationship between Draco and Hermione was strictly a friendship, but it was an awkward and strange and very nice one. Hermione would never want to ruin it with anything. And besides, Caroline had been in the picture long before she ever could have and Ron was still in Hermione's picture. So at least Caroline didn't have to worry about that.

Hermione let go of the jar with one hand to shake Caroline's offered one. "It's very nice to finally meet you. I hope the party's going well for you. Oh-"

She'd almost forgotten. She dug into her pocket and drew out one of the S.A.V.E. badges, this one in red and gold. "If you don't like the colours, I can change them to something you do like."

Draco had not briefed Caroline on the house colors of Hogwarts, else she might've insisted upon something a bit more green for his sake. The red and gold was right up her alley without that added bit of Wizarding World information, and she took the badge with a smile and proudly pinned it to her shirt.

"It's perfect. Thank you. ...and really, thank you, for speaking up like that. Not everyone would've been so bold and I know vampires don't have the best of reputations, but not all of us are like the ones that are 'vanting' to suck your blood."

Hermione was just happy Caroline approved of what she was doing. It was nice to actually get some recognition and appreciation for once. No one had appreciated her work with S.P.E.W. but at least someone appreciated S.A.V.E.

"I thought it might be something useful for Luceti. Sometimes we get cozy with our prejudices and forget that there are differences with people. Just because someone was born into something doesn't mean they're automatically good or bad. It's only a part of them, not the entirety of who they are."

Please don't get her started, Caroline or she'll never stop.
