New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

Party! That's what one (1) Caroline Forbes intended on doing. Despite having been ripped away from home, life here hadn't been all that bad.

There had been downs, of course, namely Elena's absence and the battles she'd been forced to participate in, but it wasn't like any of those kidnapping or alien abduction movies she'd seen, which was what she'd been expecting the place to be like upon arrival. It was far from that, and never in her wildest dreams did she think she could actually go public about being a vampire (accidental and unintentional or not) and not be chased through town by a bunch of crazies wielding pitchforks, torches, and stakes. She's got a boyfriend, friends, and she's actually getting along with her mother, slowly working their way through the bumps in their complicated, often nonexistent, relationship.

It's a pretty good way to end the year. God knows things could've been so much worse.

She can be found lingering near the fountain, wearing something slightly ridiculous, waiting for the fireworks to start.

[Much like how Christmas passed uneventfully, Ayumu intended to weather out New Years by himself, too. Except early bedtimes haven't suited him much since he died, and the lights and sound coming from the direction of the square finally drew him out of the house. He might as well look around for a while.

Right now, he's staring at Caroline. More specifically, her legs.]

Isn't that defeating the point of the coat?

Obviously not, if it got your attention.

[ while her legs are cold, sometimes you've got to sacrifice comfort for great, eye-catching fashion. ]

Come on, Ayumu. We both know that's not why you noticed or why other people will notice.

[ she sticks one foot out and points to the bare skin between boot and skirt. ] I've got great legs. No harm in showing them off.

[asfaslk Caroline careful with the skirt...] ...Yeah, I guess not.

Ginia may be in charge of the party inside the restaurant and nightclub, but when there are fireworks and more people to mingle with on this festive night? What better way to start off a new year then with everyone?

She spots Caroline over by the fountain and decides to go over to say hello, a wool coat over her evening attire.

"Hey, Caroline! Happy New Years!"

"Ginia!" In a bright, cheery, and festive mood, Caroline gives the other girl a hug when she comes up to her. Stepping back, she surveys the outfit. "I love that dress. You look stunning. I'm sure the boyfriend agrees."

The hug is happily returned, Ginia also surveying the other's outfit with an approving eye when they draw back. "Thank you! The little black dress, a classic. Believe me, the first time saw it, Giles was speechless for ten seconds. I'm shooting for fifteen next time. And look at you! Love the outfit, very nice pattern and boots! Very chic.

Enjoying yourself?"

"Take up the skirt an inch or two and make it twenty," Caroline suggests, always happy to play the part of the schemer in other's affairs, especially romantic ones.

"I'm having a blast. I love parties and fireworks. About time this place did something normal for a change. I'll take celebrations like these over battles and the craziness that happens here any day."

While she likes to keep romantic affairs private, Ginia can appreciate a good and well-intentioned suggestion. "Duly noted. I'll take the dress to Shiki sometime," Ginia replies with a small chuckle, already able to image Giles' expression. Or lackthereof as he hides his face and cleans his glasses.

"I agree. The parties and everything help round things out. Though I'm working with Rise to throw together a tropical party for the New Feather party. But this, right Noe?" she stops to look around at everything and everyone. "This is a good way to round out one year and ring in a new one."

[Ami's not sure it looks so much 'ridiculous' as 'fun'. And probably 'confident'; she isn't sure she'd be able to wear it herself. She doesn't comment on the outfit, of course, instead offering Caroline a quick smile (cold legs in winter aren't unusual these days back in her world).]

Happy New Year. It's nice to see you here. [Despite the holiday, she seems fairly calm.]

[ as insecure as caroline is capable of being, if there's one thing she's confident in, it's her appearance. she's pretty, and she knows it, even if she's doubted her beauty's "affect" on people in the past; that horribly shallow girl she was before matt and the set of fangs that came with the lemons life gave her. ]

Hey! [ ami gets a bright smile out of the girl. ] Happy New Year! Excited for the fireworks?

[Ami gives a quick nod, a bit more enthusiastic than she's often seen to be.]

They light up everything beautifully. And sharing it with everyone is like a dream.

I know, right? It's just so... normal for this place, you know?

[A lot of people might say to just enjoy it, but Ami's never had an easy time letting herself go like that.]

I think that's why we appreciate moments like these. Since it isn't from the Malnosso this time, I feel more comfortable with it, too.

At some point, after deciding that a party and fireworks were just what was in store for all of them, Hermione made her way around to the fountain. One person in particular caught her eye and for a moment, she paused where she stood. She was almost certain she recognized the girl from the journal cameras, and since she really did want to meet Draco's girlfriend, she approached. She was wearing a long coat, warm pants, a hat, and a pair of gloves. Hermione Granger didn't mess around with the weather. Not after the previous year. In her hands, she held a jar of fire, her infamous bluebell flames, and she was hoping to use it as a good conversation starter.

"You look a little cold," she commented, stopping close to the other blonde. Offering a small mile, she held out the jar just enough to offer it to Caroline without coming off as though she were pushing it on the girl.

"I'm not--"

The accent should've tipped her off, but her attention was stolen by the flames in a jar. There didn't appear to be anything sustaining them and really, that should've tipped her off, as well, but actually enjoying the night's festivities for once and attempting to be carefree means she's put her paranoia aside. Something that might be a stupid move on her part, but she's tired of being on high alert all the time. It was a party. Time to relax.

"How is it doing that?"

Eventually, Hermione would tell Caroline who she was, but for now she wanted to get to talking a little bit before introductions happened. It might help to show the girl that she was friendly before she realized who she was.

"It's a fairly simple spell." For Hermione Granger, few spells were that complex. "I learned it in first year and it's quite useful for warming up in the cold courtyard without having to worry about your blankets or robes catching fire."

"Oh, you're a witch?"

If people were usually put off by this knowledge, Caroline doesn't appear to be one of them. It only increases her curiosity, being someone who is currently dating a wizard and has a witch best friend, back home.

It doesn't matter if she's only talked to the other girl once or twice over the journals, Shiki recognizes good taste. It doesn't take her long to spot that outfit from across the way before she's practically bounding from her shop and stopping before her.

"So like...don't think this is weird, but who designed your skirt?"

"Vera Wang," she answered without missing a beat, but she couldn't keep a straight face to save her life. "God, I wish it was Vera Wang, but I so don't have that kind of money and Luceti is not that designer name friendly. I found it in one of the shops. Cute, isn't it?"

She almost was ready to start rambling about how unfair it was that Caroline actually got designer clothes smuggled through the barrier, but as soon as the blonde corrected herself she found herself laughing slightly.

"Totally cute. I'm a little jealous...you might even be better dressed than I am." Shiki herself was wearing one of her own designs, a simple dress in black and green, along with black tights to keep her legs warm and boots to pull the whole thing together. To be fair, she was still pretty pleased with how the dress turned out, and originally she wasn't intending on wearing it...but there was a party, and she'd be damned if she didn't show off just a little bit. "It's always nice to know someone else has a keen eye for fashion."

"Me dressed better than you, the fashion goddess of Luceti? I don't think so. And that dress? Is causing lots of feelings of jealousy, just so you know."

Which was pure honesty. That dress was awesome and even though she didn't know when she'd have another chance to wear something like that, Caroline desired it in her closet. It made her miss malls and credit cards and shopping for the sake of buying something you'd never wear but just had to own. All those normal girl things that were even more out of reach than they were back home.

"Kind of sad that more don't. Like that one over there." Shamelessly, she pointed to some poor sole in what looked more like pajamas than a dress. "Someone call the fashion police."
