New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

Despite having just arrived again a month ago, Hermione wanted to see the new year off properly. That and... she really needed to talk to some people again, face-to-face. She'd come to realize how much she'd missed the friends she had made here and having a second chance like this right before the new year was really boosting her mood.

So, as imagined, she was there, hanging out everywhere and generally being a social butterfly. Her outfit was warm, a long coat, a warm shirt, pants, and boots. With gloves, likely, and a jar of her infamous bluebell flames for warmth if needed. She is open to talking to anyone.

[ Helios is taking a break from his fireworks display. He will be walking around talking to people in the interim though. He'll spot Hermione sometime later in the evening giving a warm smile. ]

Ah Hermione! Hello, enjoying yourself I hope?

[loyalotter]

Hello! [ she offers a warm, happy smile in return. ] Yes. Even though it's winter all over again, I don't think I could have come back at a better time, honestly. It's very nice to see this sort of thing here.

How have you been? If you're cold I have this. [ she holds up the jar of fire a little higher for a moment. ]

It's quite a nice time to be back I admit. I missed it when I first arrive just shy of a few days, actually. New year's eve. Out with the old, in with the new as they always say. Never a better place or time than now for it.

[ Helios looks over at the jar of fire. Having cold skin like his makes you immune to these sorts of things and in fact he doesn't look the least bit cold, to be honest. He'll hold up a hand and shake his head. ] Oh, no, I'm quite alright! Thank you for the offer. [ A tilt of his head as he regards it more closely. ] Self sustaining fire...filial magic or a spell from your world?

[ A new year and yet some things never change. ]

I was here for it last year, but somehow it seems more peaceful this year. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it's very nice. I'll consider myself lucky that I got here in time to see it.

[ she smiles proudly at the question as she answers it. ] It's a rather simple spell from my world, one I've used many times. I'm rather fond of it for warmth and light, as it works better than Lumos and sustains longer than most other spells.

[ the world would end if they did. ]

Did you ever do anything back home for this sort of thing? [ He's just curious, really, about what people did for this holiday since it's quite secular and more worldly that most. ]

It's very interesting it reminds me of a kitsune's fire, kitsune-bi.

Sometimes. More often than not it was a combined celebration with Christmas holidays. We got to go home if we wanted to. I usually did.

Oh? What was that like?

[folklorist]

I typically let my students go home as well for all the major holidays. But if they choose to stay I also welcomed that as well. But not many usually go with that option. [ Given many of them have very differing religious beliefs after all. ]

It was...rather interesting. A family in Kyoto led my to them. Legends after all are typically well received, especially in the Japanese culture where it's still rather prevalent. But it was hot like a fire only it wouldn't burn you if you stuck your hand in it unless the kitsune wanted it too.

Most of the students of Hogwarts preferred to go home for the holidays or their parents wanted them at home. A few did stay, though. I never did.

So it was a piece of mythology that turned out to be true? [ and now she's wondering if those things exist in her world. ] We've got a few of those as well.

When Grune spots her at the New Year's party, she...doesn't quite hurry over, but she does pick up her pace somewhat.

"Hello, Hermione!" she greets her once she's close enough to talk. "Isn't this such a nice party?"

[loyalotter]

Hermione braces herself the moment she sees Grune, knowing she's getting herself into quite a lot. "It's a very nice party. And you look lovely, though a bit cold." Why anyone would wear something like that at this time of the year was beyond her. "Are you enjoying yourself?"

[lostinmyway]

"Oh, yes," she says right away. "There are lots of people to talk to, and the music Ginia is playing is so pretty, isn't it?"

[loyalotter]

"Yes," Hermione agrees with a nod. "It's one of the better parties I've been to. Did you come with anyone?"

[lostinmyway]

"Oh, no, I'm meeting all my friends here," she says. She isn't exactly one for planning ahead. "Did you come with someone?"

[loyalotter]

"No. I was hoping to run into them while I'm here, but it's hard to tell where anyone is."

[lostinmyway]

In Grune's world, there's an easy solution to that. "Well, why don't we go look for them together?"

[loyalotter]

Oh boy. This ought to be interesting. "I suppose we could. Who are you looking for?"

Unknown to Hermione (or so he wished to believe) there was a young man with blonde hair slowly sneaking up behind her. With as much stealth as he could muster, he approached behind her and drew his wand, flicking it a bit and levitating that infamous jar a few inches from her hands. Don't mind him, he's just in the mood for trolling.

[loyalotter]

Oh no, he did not. Hermione just yelped a bit and leaped for her jar-

-and then figured out who was doing it. The only person who could. But it did make her laugh, even as she placed her hands on her hips and turned to find out where he was.

"Draco Malfoy, give me back my jar."

He couldn't help but laugh, though he's going to let that jar drift higher even after he's already been busted. He didn't bother hiding, but he smirked instead.

"Honestly, 'Mione, don't you get bored sticking with the same tricks?"

Hermione just turns to glare at him, hands on her hips. "Oh give it back already." No, she's not addressing that question because the smile on her face is giving her away completely.

"Now really, that's not a polite way to ask, now is it?" But he's lowering the jar of flames anyway to just about her eye-level. "Might be something we have to work on for the new year."

She'll just snatch at the jar, thanks, looking teasingly indignant. "Did you have something in mind?"

"I might, but you know me. I always have a lot in mind. Then again, you're the one who consistently runs through new projects..." He looks up toward the rest of the crowd, waving a hand briefly. "I didn't think you liked these sorts of things."

"It's how I keep myself busy. I'd go mad if I didn't." And he knows she would, too. "I don't really. I was hoping to run into a few people while I'm here." Like Caroline. And a few of her friends.
