Out with the old....

Who: Everyone
What: New Year's.
When: Dec. 31st, New Year's Eve, to Jan 1st, New Year's Day.
Where: Everywhere
Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.
Rating: We'll see...

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

See, that makes everything sound a lot better! I'd probably listen to her more if she put things like that. [She laughs.] Maybe you should've been my caretaker instead of her.

[She laughs as well.] Sometimes it's all in the phrasing. But really, Pao-lin, being a proper young lady isn't about what you wear or having perfect manners. It's being able to handle everything with grace and composure and making yourself heard and known without making a scene.
i_am_not_cute: (awww do i have to)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-05 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
...I bet that's easier said than done, right?
shadedsunlight: (We hope everything works out)

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-05 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Always is, but you'll get it in time. However, most importantly? Be you.
i_am_not_cute: (i guess i'm smiling idk idk)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-06 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Be me, huh... [But sometimes I don't know what kind of "me" I want to be.] I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, Miss Ginia. [She eyes the dirty dishes piled on the nearby table.] Ah, would you be able to help me carry some of these back to the kitchen...?

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, Pao-lin. [Ginia glances over at the plates and nods, quickly picking up a stack herself.] Careful, work too hard and I might have to hire you at Cloud Nine. [She teases, she teases, but good help is always appreciated.]

[She laughs as she picks up the remaining stack and begins to make her way over to the kitchen.]

Only if it pays me better than being a Hero!

[More teasing. It's not something she's done a lot. But given her lack of peers back home in Sternbild and the boundaries that still existed in some minute form between herself and her older co-workers, she's had very little opportunity thus far to really engage in it.]

Afraid I can't do much about money, but you could take home food and drinks after your shift.
i_am_not_cute: (it'll be okay)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-11 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, that sounds great! Though I'm trying to learn how to cook my own food, too.
shadedsunlight: (You're a new morning)

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-11 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing to know, cooking. Taking raw ingredients, mixing them together, creating some delicious, it's quite nice.

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-11 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Nod.] Usually Natasha cooks or takes me out to eat, and I'm usually busy with other things so I didn't really cook that much before I came to Luceti. [Laugh.] I think I could just go to Seventh Heaven or Azzip all the time here, but since groceries are free and I don't have to do stuff for HeroTV, I figured I might as well try it out now.
shadedsunlight: (I guess we're gonna find out)

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-11 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
What kind have things have you been trying to cook? And if you want, I could give you suggestions. [And huzzah, the kitchen! Ginia sets the dishes down on one of the racks.]
i_am_not_cute: (it'll be okay)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-11 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Pao-Lin follows suit with the dishes, carefully moving some things around so they'll fit and not topple over.]

I just started with the cookies and stuff for Christmas because I thought those would be easy enough, but I guess I should learn something that isn't dessert, right?

Cookies are always a good starting place, I believe. Who doesn't like a fresh batch of cookies and they make the kitchen smell so nice. But it's good learning things that aren't dessert. Marinating is always a starting place. Take some meat or poultry, let it soak in some sauce for an hour or so, then cook in the oven on a low temperature for a few minutes. Delicious and easy.

Hmm, that does sound easy. What's your favorite recipe for something like that?
shadedsunlight: (All in a day's work)

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-16 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I like marinating chicken in teriyaki or barbecue sauce, grilling it, then serving it alongside a salad. Good on noodles too. Ramen, mix in some vegetables and egg, chicken on top, it's great.
i_am_not_cute: (the happiest you'll ever see me)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-17 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ramen, huh? Yeah, that should definitely be simple enough to try. I'll let you know how it goes when I do make it!
shadedsunlight: (I look at you and smile because I'm fine)

[personal profile] shadedsunlight 2012-01-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Can't wait to hear the results. I find pasta to be a great base ingredient to work with. All you need to do is throw in a different ingredient or sauce.
i_am_not_cute: (i guess i'm smiling idk idk)

[personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-01-17 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kinda do that already with ramen -- I add things like cabbage and corn to it after I make the packaged stuff.

[She glances over to another part of the kitchen, where she notices a couple of trays of food waiting.]

Ah, guess we'd better get back to work, huh?
