New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[Haruhi had ambitiously decided that she was well enough to see the day when it was the Eve of the New Year (unlike Hiccup's holiday, which she wanted to attend but was too ill at the time for). Sure the New Year is pretty pointless in Luceti given the cycle changes a few months earlier, but the symbolism never fails to hit her, nor does the need to go to a shrine or something. Which is why around midnight burled up in a lot of coats she's trying to make the treck to what she figures is the closest thing to a shrine in Luceti, the trees on Amaterasu's hill.

Thing is, it's midnight and she's only barely recovered from being sick, so once she gets there despite the cold, she's going to nod off against one of the trees. Encounter her en-route or at the place, dozed off in a bundle of coats]

[Oh look, it's a giant marshmallow bundle of coats with a ribbon on it. ...Oh wait, that's Haruhi, isn't it? Yeah, it looks like it sooo... Atsuro's going to run on over to greet her! Since he hasn't seen her in a while, seeing as how she's been ill.]

['If you can really call this a "new year" when it hasn't been a year since the last one, when there doesn't appear to be anything new about it, and when the calendar is a complete mystery to me... well, if all of that, happy New Year.

...Of course, it's more because of the idea of the new year, which is supposed to give you a fresh start. With what? Of course, that's hard for me to say now, not that I haven't been thinking about it for weeks. Is this place a fresh start for me? For Haruhi? For these other people I've met here? It's the opposite of fresh for her, of course. Is this a time for me to resolve not to give up?

[Actually it's darker than she expected... she should have brought a flashlight. She coughs, and then covers her hands with her mouth, then pulling the hand back, muttering, and having Eferin make a little fire right there above it]

There's no shrines here, so I might as well do the next best thing.

[He pauses.

'In fact, she never really is, usually... Isn't this worrying?'

And he draws a little closer to her.]
