Luceti Town Meeting Cycle Year 5

What: Town meeting
When: February 6th at 6 PM
Where: The school cafeteria
Summary: The village gets together for a town meeting. Let there be ideas, plans, and future festivities.
Rating:
With the help of some friends and friends of friends, the school cafeteria has been transformed into a meeting space. Rows of chairs and a few benches fill the space, providing adequate seating for whoever wishes to come to the meeting.

Along the back are some tables set with cookies, pastries, and tea, juice, and coffee for people to munch and sip on, before, during, and after the meeting

By the entrance is another table. On it sits a locked box with a slit on top, small sheets of blank paper, and a few pencils and pens. This is the message box, for anyone who wishes to express an idea or thought in an anonymous manner. The box will later be opened and all the messages inside will be read out loud by Ginia.

At the front sits a platform - one of the ones built for A Midsummer Night's Dream - with a table and chair resting on top. It's where Ginia will sit during the meeting, the extra height for the purpose of being able to see anyone who may be seated in the back row.

We had one two years ago. I was still pretty new then. [He remembers being involved in it. Trying to make a difference.] I don't know if it will change much, but it's not bad to try. I mean, this place has changed a lot since I first arrived.

In theory, these meetings should give many people focus and carry them through their projects. But some things tend to falter. Motivation wanes. [Because of disappearances? Because of experiments? Because of people's apathy?] In spite of that, Luceti's very different. But is that because of what we do to our environment, or because of what's going on outside?

[When he left, someone was at the Battle Dome at least. He can't say the same about the Plaza.

He's got a cup of coffee now, and wonders of wonders, actually dressed for the occasion.]

Distinguished, eh? I think I can get behind that. [Lightly and with good humor. He's in no hurry to get them.]

[Tap, tap, goes a finger on his chin.] Though I think Maes would start pestering me more. [Teasing Hughes (and warmly) but there's more than a little truth in the joke.] 'Trafalgar, look in the mirror. A man of your years should be settling down, raising a family.' Not that he doesn't remind me... but nah, he doesn't need any more ammunition. Even if it would look good.

Do you expect a lot to come of a meeting like this?

... well, I guess we can't exactly take credit for an ocean showing up. [Or maybe they can take credit for all of Luceti not being an ocean.]

Some men can carry them, some cannot. [She chuckles and tugs on one of her own loos bangs.] At the very least I have avoided them thusfar, so perhaps you too shall have nothing to worry about, mm?

[Now that name was somewhat familiar to her. Adele mulls it over a moment before it comes to her.] He is...the little blonde girl's father, yes? Elicia?

It is the self appointed duty of any happily married man to see his contemporaries share the same joy. Or misery, depending upon the situation. I suppose I should be thankful I have managed to avoid such attempts.

Using the window seems to be helping a little! ... But I'm pretty sure it loosens it's hinges anyway out of spite, whenever I pass by it.

[... It may be a little tough to tell whether he's being serious or kidding with that one. Possibly because he's both joking and being serious about that whole thing, himself.]

[ Helios wasn't expecting the brush to his elbow but he manages to not flinch or pull back as much. ] I'd love to. I'm never opposed to such an offer. But, ah, I'm glad you asked me to help you. It-it means a great deal.

[ He smiles back at her before going back to straightening out one of those chairs. ]

[ Sup Obi-wan! Helios is going to be helping out too so you can just watch him as he probably isn't paying attention to where he's going and will walk into things. Oh whoops who put that chair there? ]

[Fortunately, Obi-Wan has mastered the potent Jedi art of 'seeing that guy about to trip on a chair and pulling it out of the way before he can.'

A very valuable art, that.]

[Oh huff and puff all you want, Haruhi - at least he knows he won't get hit with Ground Dasher or something for approaching you about something like this.

Regardless, at this point, it's clear to him that she's really jumpy for some reason, and if he's already pointing it out, he might as well finish what he started. Backing off after that would just leave him feeling annoyed.]

... Seriously though, seeing someone like you acting this way over something like this is getting me jittery. And something like a town meeting doesn't strike me as the sort of thing worth worrying over. [ ... ] So ... relax a little, all right?

[ You have such useful skills Obi-wan. Helios should really pick up that Jedi art, really, he should. Helios still stumbles a little and laughs sheepishly. ] Oh! Hah th-thank you. I-I should really pay more attention where I'm going.

[ Just a smile. ]

[He flashes the easy grin again. Relax, friend.]

"It's no trouble. I understand the... distractions that can plague a place like this."

[He raised an eyebrow.]

"Besides, two weeks ago I accidentally jumped over a building, so who am I to criticize?"

Thank you for the idea, Princess Luna. I think that sounds like a fine celebration to have here and a fun way to welcome spring.

Luceti does tend to lend itself to being...distracting. [ Helios smiles looking around before his eyes widen at that statement. ]

You...jumped over a building? [ A laugh. ] That's rather amazing!

...One day I hope we know each other well enough that we could discuss. This. [She nods to his flinching elbow, but turns to help him set up the chairs.] You are too kind and forgiving a man to live with such stress, Helios.

[Another branch, another observation, but after that she lets the subject die.] I am equally glad that you're willing to teach me, especially after how...I think the proper term would be 'bitchy', yes? That I've been considering magic in the past.

"Well, in fairness, I was already near the top anyway. Misjudged a jump."

[Or rather, misjudged how hard I would be able to jump. Of all the times the Force could randomly return.]

"Fortunately, Adele was there to assist me when I landed."

We could, but it wouldn't technically be correct. [He looks up from his inane list.] Still, I suppose it's impressive. I never thought I would see the day where there would be ships out there.

[ Helios' smile turns a bit sadder at that. If only it were that easy. In retrospect it is and in truth the only one who knew was Giles and he's gone now. Talking usually helps but there's always that gut wrenching fear that Nero will show up and find out somehow. It's the consequences of such a situation that make Helios freeze up and never speak about it. ] Y-You think so? You m-might be right.

[ Helios bows his head and goes to setup another chair. ] It's...a lot to take in. You've certainly nothing to apologize for in terms of your thoughts about magic. L-Lots of people in my own world have the same opinions to be honest. It's, ah, why I made my school. But I'm glad you're willing to give it a shot.

[She snorts.] In this? I am certain. Take the compliment Helios. [Low, faintly teasing.]

I must accept the reality in which I live. This reality includes magic, magic that I am capable of learning given enough time and work. If it will help me with my patients...[She goes a little somber, eyes going distant.]...if it can help me keep you and Ginia safe? Then it is a worthy pursuit. I'll not be helpless and idle in a crisis again Helios.
